Well why couldn't Joey Votto bat fourth?

Why would you move him out of the 3 spot when he is doing so welll there?
Votto is the perfect 3 hitter because of his BA.
I cant believe we are 8 games in the season and everyone wants to change the line up all around. If Dusty was changing it arouind all the time everyone would gripe about that.

To let him drive in more runs. Dickerson is an everyday player. He's better than Bruce IMO. He can steal a base and hit with power. Everyone else is stinking it up at the plate (You posted the BA's) he should be in the 2 hole with Phillips in the 3. The Reds would have 3 speedsters at the top of the lineup with Votto sitting in the 4 hole to drive them in.

jake, it isn't so much about being 8 games into the season. Personally I never liked Phillips batting 4th. As far as Votto goes, he showed last year he could hit 5th or 6th and now he can hit 3rd. Doubt it would hurt him to hit 4th and like jackdog said, it would give him even more opportunity to drive runs in.

jackdog, I like Dickerson and think he should play every day, but I don't know that I would say he is better than Bruce. Bruce is a special player that doesn't come around very often. Yeah Bruce started off hot last year and then had an "ok" rookie season. Yes he has started off slow this year, but we are only 8 games into it. I think Bruce finishes the year around .275-.280 with about 25 hr's. Then next year will be his breakout (.300+ 30hr's) year.

I can't argue with that. I hope your right. I really like Bruce and I believe Dickerson is cut from the same cloth with more speed. Time will tell. I don't think for a second Hairston is a better option in left no matter who's on the mound. Jerry is a decent back up for any OF position,SS and 3B. Dickerson is a starter. I really believe he could hit 20-25 bombs this year and 20-30 steals. I really like seeing Bruce and Dickerson at the corners with Taveras up the middle. I hope Dusty gives Dickerson more playing time when facing a lefty.

Am I the only one that hates the popularity of platoons these days? What happened to the old days where a player would either play or he wouldn't regardless of the pitcher? When a guy was struggling against lefties he would work on it and then hopefully improve. The way it is now, if you have any problems facing a certain armed pitcher, then you never get to face those pitchers, therefore you never get to improve. I hate it.

And I agree about Hairston being a good back up. I also like the idea of that speedy outfield you proposed, day in and day out.

This line up would be too easy to match up against for opposing managers late in games. You would be batting all of your LH bats in the 2 thru 5 spots, 3 out of your 4 hitters coming up late in games would be LH.

I am all for platoons if a LH hitter cant hit LH pitchers and vise versa. The good old days are gone, just like the use of bullpens and LH pitching specialist out of the bullpen these days. You use to come to the park knowing you where going to face the same pitcher the whole game. Now you might face 3 different pitchers for your 4/5 AB's.

Then firm the bench up. Bottom line is this. Dickerson should be playing everyday. The Reds should field the best 8 players they have in as many games as they can. I'm old school (46) I'm a firm believer in playing the best hitters and letting the pitchers worry about it. Sometimes managers get too caught up in match ups and forget to let the talent do what their paid to do. Just my opinion.

Offense is putrid two hits on Wandy Rodriguez?

The Reds are last in the majors in team batting average (.208), 28th out of 30 in team SLG, and 23rd out of 30 in team OBP.

I can't confirm this because I haven't researched it but I want to say that Wandy Rodriguez has always kind of given the Reds problems. Their offense sucks right now though. They need to bounce back Sunday.
