Re: 2009 Cincinnati Reds
I agree with you there. It can't hurt. He needs to get his mojo back. There have been a lot of times where he's hit the ball hard but it's been right at someone. Those are tough to take when you're struggling. But then there are other times where he hits dribblers to an infielder.MLB: Cincinnati Reds

Re: 2009 Cincinnati Reds
According to the Toronto Sun the Reds are interested in Scott Rolen.
Here is the link:
I kind of like the idea of trading for Rolen, he has 25 game hit streak going and when healthy would really help our offense.ND Season Ticket Holder since '72.Comment

Re: 2009 Cincinnati Reds
Bronson was rather impressive Friday night. Best he's pitched in a while.
I'd be interested in getting Rolen as long as it didn't cost us too much. I don't want them giving up two top prospects for him. I still don't think they are one player away.MLB: Cincinnati Reds

Re: 2009 Cincinnati Reds
I don't think it's going to happen, the Jays have no intrest in Encarnacion and that's who the reds were trying to package along with a prospect apparently. But it probably would take two top prospects to get him and I don't think he's worth it.Comment

Re: 2009 Cincinnati Reds
So fellow Reds fans, who are we going to trade for?
With Jay now hurnt they have to make a move dont they?
Talk here in Cincy has been Rolen who I wouldnt mind having, Atkins who is having a terrible year and Holliday who might be the most over rated player in baseball. Take a look at his #'s this year away from Coors. He is on pace for 15 hrs and 81 rbi's this year. In his last 33 games he has hit .261 with ZERO hrs and 7 rbis. His batting average, slugging and OPS have dropped each year since 2007. Oh yeah and he makes 13.5 million.
So lets play a game and try to predict who the Reds are going to trade for.
I say it will be a lesser know player, I am going with Aubry Huff or maybe Mark Teahan.ND Season Ticket Holder since '72.Comment

I agree with you on Holliday. If you look at his stats prior to 2009, he gradually got better playing on the road, but his numbers really paled in comparison to what he was doing at Coors. 2008 was the closest he came to putting up somewhat equal stats in the major hitting categories.
Teahan isn't a bad player, plus he's entering his prime. But, I don't think he'd put up the power numbers to replace Bruce. I've always liked Huff, but he hasn't had a great year at the plate so far. It might make sense for the O's to trade him though and let a youngster start in his place. His salary is a bit high.
I still think they should go after Alex Rios. I don't like his K-to-BB ratio but he puts up good numbers. Found it interesting though that the Jays fans were only booing him during that series against the Reds, especially that game against Arroyo. Whenever he screwed up, they were all over him. Does he have a bad 'tude?
Honestly, during the off-season, I was really, really hoping they'd sign Juan Rivera. If you looked at his past stats heading into the season, he put up good, solid numbers if given enough at-bats. I thought he was on the verge of having a big year. I was thinking .280-.290 AVG and 25-30 HR's potential if he played every day. Bats right. Signed a cheap deal too: $3.2 mill in '09.Last edited by SlimKibbles; 07-15-2009, 10:28 PM.MLB: Cincinnati Reds

Re: 2009 Cincinnati Reds
While I wouldnt mind getting Rios his contract is just ridiculous. And there is no way the Reds could take on his salary, chech out his contract:
Rios gets $5.9 million in 2009, $9.7 million in 2010, $12 million each in 2011 and 2012 and $12.5 million apiece in 2013 and 2014.
Way too much money for way too many years for the Reds.
And actually Huff is having a better year then Rios.
Huff .259 11 hr 56 rbis
Rios .262 10 hr 46 rbis
Its weird as alot of the trade talk has calmed here in Cincy, last week that was all the talk around hear.ND Season Ticket Holder since '72.Comment

Re: 2009 Cincinnati Reds
I'm kind of glad we're struggling a bit recently so it'll prevent management from mortgaging the farm in order to get one decent veteran who won't push us over the top anyway.
Like SlimKibbles said, we're a year or two and a few players away from a playoff spot. The team was somehow staying above water all the first half despite having absolutely glaring flaws (like: hitting the baseball with consistency). We were really getting the best results we could with the problems we had. If our pitching was like how it's been in past seasons, we would've been in terrible shape. Thankfully, the pitching has been such a feel good story this year as most of our guys are having pretty good years.... mostly.
I expect us to continue to play around .500 ball as we start to get into more of a groove in the second half. I think the bats will wake up, pitching may tamper off, and we'll finish up with 75-80 wins. It's a bit frustrating hanging around that .500 mark all year, but I can't complain too much; the team is fitting in right with expectations. I just want the guys to get more chances to bat so we can continue to progress in that area, mainly our young guys. I really think that, although we probably aren't going to the playoffs this year, just knowing that this team can compete will be huge for the whole team's psyche and will hopefully lead into a successful 2010 and 2011. And of course, if we're hovering around that .500 mark, a hot streak can push you over the top and into the playoffs, especially in the NL. Then again, a losing streak can leave you buried. We'll see, this season is far from over despite my gut feeling we'll miss out on postseason play again.
I'm excited for September and the expansion of the roster. I'm excited to see some of the young kids we have and I'd like to see them make a mark in their short time here. We have some guys playing who probably shouldn't and they need something, in this case a young player, to light a fire under their ***'s.Last edited by slickdtc; 07-16-2009, 08:08 AM.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers

Re: 2009 Cincinnati Reds
Okay, guys. Friday is the trade deadline. Any predictions on what will happen with the Reds this week? I'm betting they trade either Arroyo or Harang. If they trade prospects for Scott Rolen, or a someone of that nature, I'm not going to be happy. Keep playing hard the rest of the season and have faith Uncle Walt will add some new, or take away existing, pieces for 2010.
By the way, I am planning on attending my 2nd game of the season tomorrow night when they play the Padres. This is probably the fewest number of games I've been to this far into the season my entire life.MLB: Cincinnati Reds

Re: 2009 Cincinnati Reds
I think you're spot on with either Arroyo or Harang, and I'd hope it's Arroyo. One game he completely baffles hitters, the next he stinks up the joint and it's usually more of the first. I'd gladly take little(like we'd get much in return anyway) in return if we could free up Arroyo's money.
If we were to get rid of Harang I don't think it'd really help us unless we signed someone good this offseason, which I think it'd be hard to get top of the line pitchers to come here.Comment
