What's the deal with Baker putting Harang back out there after a 2.5 hour rain delay? Just so Harang could get a "W".

      Re: 2009 Cincinnati Reds

Harang bugged Dusty during the delay and kept telling him he could go in and get one more out. He kept loose the whole delay by throwing lightly @ the indoor batting cage.
Here is Harangs quote on going back in to get the win.

"I went in there and told them I'm going to get this out," Harang said. "It doesn't matter to me how long I have to sit here and toss. I just tried to stay loose and stay active. The third or fourth time I warmed up, it was getting kind of dicey. They were getting a little antsy to decide what was going on."

Another night another win, I am starting to like this winning thing!
Bronson is now 7-3, I know his ERA is over 5.....But if you take away the 9 run inning he had his ERA would be a very good 4.33. Do you realize he has 18 wins since his horrible game @ Toronto last year????? Only Roy Halloday has more!

          Interesting piece about Arroyo.

26-20 right now guys. They're playing well right now, up to expectations (hovering around that .500 mark). I'm glad these guys are getting a taste of what it takes to be a winning ball club. That's important for a team that's been mired in subpar seasons for a while now.

I just saw that we're above .500 both on the road and at home. We're actually a better team, in terms of wins and losses, away from home this year. Shows we're not a one trick pony relying on our hitter's ballpark.

I hope we can keep it up! Go Reds!

            Re: 2009 Cincinnati Reds

            Hal McCoy for manager.

Here's some of his last blog:

Chris Dickerson was sent up to pinch-hit for starting pitcher Johnny Cueto. A bunt? Put runners on second and third with one out? Nope. No bunt. Dickerson swung away and hit into a double play.

Before he could even be asked, Baker brought it up himself and said, “I suppose you want to know what we didn’t bunt right there?” Yeah, we do. And here is his explanation.

Baker said he never thought about having Dickerson bunt the runners to second and third, “Willy Taveras (the hitter after Dickerson) hasn’t beed hitting too good and Dickerson has. Willy is hitting only .220 over the past few games and Dickerson hadn’t hit into a double play all year.”

            Now he has.

Brewers second baseman Craig Counsell made a fantastic play on Dickerson’s chopper. If he threw to second, he wouldn’t have time to throw to second to start a double play. But Rosales was right in front of him and he tagged him, then threw to first.

“I told Rosales that in that situation he can’t get tagged out,” said Baker. “He has to stop or run him over, then we still have first and third with one out. It’s part of the learning process, but it doesn’t make it any easier to accept this loss when you have action going.”

I agree. Rosales gave himself up. He could have prevented the DP. But I believe Dickerson should have been bunting. If Taveras hasn’t been hitting - and he hasn’t - after Dickerson bunted the runners to second and third, send up a pinch-hitter for Taveras. Jonny Gomes wasn’t doing anything.
I agree with McCoy. That was a definite WTF Dusty moment.

The thing that made no sense to me, why did Phillips bunt with 1 out in the 9th and give away an out? That was also a wtf moment

Agreed. In Dusty's defense,I think he did that on his own.

Something isn't right about all of this. Obviously we aren't being told the whole story. Someone speculated on the Enquirer in a comment that he might have something related to the inner ear thing that might cause him to miss half the season. They mentioned Ben Sheets dealing with the same thing several years ago. I vaguely remember it but with all of the injuries Sheets has had over the years, it's difficult to keep them straight. Another person threw out there that some medications used to treat inner ear deals can cause heightened stress and anxiety problems. Speculation again.

Whatever the case is, I wish Joey the best and a speedy recovery with whatever he is dealing with. As much as I want him back on the field and helping the Reds, it's much more important that he get his health and/or life straightened out.

I'll tell ya man, my FIRST initial thought was Nick Esasky...remember his bout w/ vertigo? i HOPE to God that ain't the case...but it eventually ended Nick's career.

Yeah, that has crossed my mind at least once over the last month. Nick had that huge season for the Red Sox and was done after a few games the next year with the Braves. Hell, David Duval was on top of the golf world and then got that. He hasn't made much noise since he came back. I'm with you, I hope it isn't vertigo. The thing with Joey is he seemed to still be hitting the ball well despite what is going on. I don't think Esasky and Duval were doing anything well when they were fighting vertigo.

On to what the Reds did today, why do they feel the need to get swept in the very next series after sweeping some other team? That's happened twice this month now. Big series coming up in The Lou.

You guys have this all wrong, Joey is taking time off to get away from the game.
He is going through an undisclosed personal tradegy in his life right now. The Reds are chosing to respect his privacy and are not saying what this tradegy is until Joey is ready to talk about it.
Officailly he is on the DL with STRESS relating to his personal life.
