Re: 2010 Cincinnati Reds
1st place is a beautiful place to be!!!!
Should have swept the Cards but I will take 2 of 3.
Does anyone have a clue to why Dusty pitch hit Hernandez instead of Nix in the 9th on Friday??? Down 1 first and second Madson pitching and he uses Hernandez?? Hernandez was 2-21 off Madson and Madson dominates against righties. Nix was 4-12 and it a lefty.
So what does Dusty do, uses Ramon who grounds into a game ending DP. Was Nix not feeling well? The only reason I ask is during the game yesterday, they mentioned Nix was a valuable player when he is healthy. Is he not healty right now?
In Dusty's defense just about everything else he as done the last 3 weeks has worked really well.ND Season Ticket Holder since '72.Comment

No doubt about his changes working though, Stubbs has been thriving down in the order. Cabrera's hitting .300 in the leadoff spot, 10 times better than what was there before. Phillips is also hitting just about .300 since moved to #2 spot.Last edited by duke776; 05-17-2010, 10:02 AM.Comment

Re: 2010 Cincinnati Reds
On the post game show they said that Nix was unavaliable. Not sure why, they didn't know at the time. Not sure if they even found out or not because I turned it off before the post game show ended.
No doubt about his changes working though, Stubbs has been thriving down in the order. Cabrera's hitting .300 in the leadoff spot, 10 times better than what was there before. Phillips is also hitting just about .300 since moved to #2 spot.
And actually yesterday during the pregame show the host debunked the whole Cabrera is doing better at the leadoff spot then Stubbs was.
He threw some interesting #'s out, Stubbs has scored more runs this year and steals more bases. He also said everyone loves Cabrera batting 1st but his on base % is horrible, it is right at .300. You need your leadoff guy to be around .350 to .400 not .300. He said Stubbs was .285 batting leadoff, so it is not much better with Cabrera.
How about Yondor Alonso being moved up to AAA?
He had 4 hits and 6 rbi's his first game at Louisville, and he has been moved from 1B to LF.
He will be the starting LF next year for the Reds, atleast that is what the Reds want.ND Season Ticket Holder since '72.Comment

Re: 2010 Cincinnati Reds
Yeah I just read an article that Nix is having back issues I believe. They said he cannot currently swing a bat.
And actually yesterday during the pregame show the host debunked the whole Cabrera is doing better at the leadoff spot then Stubbs was.

Good to see about Alonso though, and hopefully he's not too bad out there in left.Comment

Re: 2010 Cincinnati Reds
No matter how long this lasts, it's great to be in first place. According to the Enquirer, the Reds haven't been atop the division since Day 14 of the 2007 season. Hallelujah!
My concerns are: bullpen depth, outfield depth, a lineup with not enough lefty batters, and the age/durability of Rolen and Cabrera. Clutch hitting, improved defense, and a young "troika" in the rotation of Cueto, Bailey, and Leake gives us hope. Bruce and Stubbs need to continue to improve at the plate, Phillips needs to focus, Arroyo and Harang need to lend some consistency. Votto is THE rising star.Comment

Re: 2010 Cincinnati Reds
I agree that Cabrera isn't the best choice for leadoff because he doesn't walk a whole lot, but looking at the numbers I don't see how Stubbs was better when he was at the leadoff position. Unless the guy took only a part of Stubbs time at the leadoff spot, he only hit .145 out of it(scroll down towards bottom and you'll see his #'s by batting order). Now, I would agree Stubbs is a much better candidate to lead off because he walks and steals bases, but if he can't hit then I don't see why he should be there. Now he has started to hit though, and if he could carry that production over to leadoff I'd much rather he lead off.
Good to see about Alonso though, and hopefully he's not too bad out there in left.

One other thing is I'm a little excited if/when Volquez and Chapman have opportunities to play. Right now with everyone playing well I'm not sure if they'll get a shot. I have to believe Volquez automatically has a spot, but Chapman may sit in the minors even longer. It looks like if the Reds want to get some of those guys playing they may have to make a trade, but I don't know if they'll want to trade if the team has a winning record. Some interesting decisions to be made.Last edited by lonewolf371; 05-17-2010, 09:20 PM.NFL: Indianapolis Colts (12-6)

Re: 2010 Cincinnati Reds
Throwing this out there to see how much interest there is. I know we talked about it last season but it kind of fell through. Who all wants to do an OS outing at GABP? I was interested last year. If so, any thoughts on a series to target? I have class on Monday and Wednesday nights and have softball on Thursday's. Tuesday's, Friday's, and Saturday's would work best. Taking that into account, next month the Reds play SF (6/7-6/10), KC (6/11-6/13), and LA (6/15-6/17) where that criteria would be met. The Philly series (6/28-6/30) would work any day because that will be the one week I have off in-between summer classes. We could always go another month too. Any thoughts?MLB: Cincinnati Reds

With that being said Cabrera is no lead off hitter either, take a look at the stats you posted. Cabrera has walked a total of one time since batting first, Stubbs walked 11 times while he was batting first. Also Stubbs did bat .275 last year batting first in a much larger amount of at bats. I really dont think he will quit hitting if he moves back to first.
Again I wouldnt change nothing right now, they are playing too good.ND Season Ticket Holder since '72.Comment
