Are you effin' kidding me? One start after 6 perfect innings against the Reds, Arrieta is through 7 no-hit innings at Boston. This guy. Damn.

Oh, nothing. That's just Kris Bryant hitting a Grand Salami in HD. Man-Ram also went deep.

LOL, the Iowa Cubs are like a bunch of rock-stars right now.

            C-Castillo
            1B-Rizzo
            2b-Alcantara
            3b-Valbuena
            SS-Castro
            COFs-Bryant/WhoCares
            CF-Lake

This is what I want to see on Opening Day...or September.

Baez, Soler, and Almora could complicate things, but I don't think Baez will move up this year, Soler needs to settle in after injury again, and Almora is still in A ball.

In short, this is just another way for me to say Valbuena is awesome.

There is a bit of a logjam, though...

Castro, Baez, Bryant, Alcantara, and Rizzo can't all play the infield...

Presuming they all share time in the Majors, SURELY Bryant becomes an OFer, yes?

Or does one of them turn into a slew of pitching and erstwhile prospects?

They're already testing Alcantara in CF in Iowa. I think if anyone is likely to move, it's him. Valbuena plays 2B and keep Bryant at 3B. I actually think Baez gets a call up this year before Bryant, but if Bryant keeps crushing the ball, Theo and Co. may not have a choice but to give him a shot in September.

I think Soler ends up becoming a trade piece for a top of the rotation arm, eventually. He's got to prove he can stay healthy for that though.

Looks like the Cubs are in serious talks with the A's on Samardzija. Main piece in talks is Addison Russell. Looks like you need a bigger log jam at SS now.

Just read that the A's want a Shark extension for the deal to happen..

Shark wants ace money and Oakland is obviously a small market team. I don't see that working out very well. Apparently there are third and fourth teams involved too.

Not getting my hopes up, honestly. You guys know trade rumors usually work out for us.

Edit: and Rosenthal says the deal is done. Lol, that was quick.

I guess this thing is official.

                    Samardzija + Hammel for Russell + McKinney + Straily + a PTBNL

I like the addition of Russell, maybe Baez becomes a 3rd baseman, Castro goes to 2nd and Russell stays at SS in the future, or Castro has become expendable, which I dont think would be a good idea, he has turned it back around this season

Cash, PTBNL, whichever, either way, getting Addison Russell is what makes this trade work. Probably could have sent Hammel to a different team and got more prospects, but hey, no prospect that came back in return would have the ceiling that Russell has

Absolutely. And hey, we might even get Hammel back next year as he is only signed through this year.

I've read quite a few things, no PTBNL, just cash, a PTBNL.. No idea.

Even if there isn't a PTBNL, I still think getting Russell is awesome. 3 out of 10 of the top prospects in the MLB is awesome. I'm not worried about an infield logjam at all. Talent is talent.

Hammel is a rental, and it was already decided we weren't going to resign Shark. So, two guys who don't figure into our future plans for a talent as great as Russell's is good in my book.
