Looks like Rizzo is headed to the All-Star game.

Alcantara a HR away from a cycle in his second ML game? Not bad at all.

Today keeps getting better. The Landmarks Commission approved our revised plan for the renovation. However, we're scheduled to meet with the rooftops tomorrow. We want 7 signs in the OF, and the rooftops have said they won't sue if we only put up 2. I think we'll meet somewhere in the middle, but who knows.

Also, Arismendy is supposedly staying with the big league club longer than expected. I've read we're optioning down Hendricks instead of Alcantara. Nothing official yet, though.

Hard to send a guy down after a 4-hit game, lol. It'll take Barney 2 weeks to get 4 hits.

I really think the Cubs future is bright right now…pretty amazing how quickly things can change around.

I was a little leery too, especially since they passed on they best hitting prospect in Alex Jackson (I think that's his name). But these college hitters tend to develop quicker

I LOVE this strategy. There was a ~15 year gap between Kerry Wood and Baez and (aside from Prior), we got absolutely nothing in the 1st round. Going for the sure thing is the way to go and leave the 17 year old kids as lottery tickets in later rounds. Unless of course one of those kids is Bryce Harper or something.

Cubs are going to be so good in a few years if all the hitting prospects end up developing.

It will be scary if they all pan out!

I think their pitching prospects are very underrated. I'm not real crazy about CJ Edwards, I think he is way underweight, but guys like pierce Johnson and Kyle Hendricks have had good years in the minors, and Dallas beeler has pitched two good games for the cubs this year. Plus you've got Wood and Arrieta at the major league level and still in their mid 20's. They just need to get an ace to lead their staff. It'd be interesting to see if the cubs trade some of their top hitting prospects to try to aquire a pitcher this offseason, or in the future. Wonder if the Rays will make Price available this offseason...

I think I'd rather see them develop their hitters before they deal them. Having too many all world hitters is a good problem to have

I hope they don't go get Price...

do they need an ace? yes...but not now, and probably not next year...

Go grab the best arm available after the "kids" have seasoned a bit.

that being said, this could be a totally different story come next June/July if the kids are up and raking...

I think I saw something in the Chicago tribune that said the cubs might try to get him when he's a FA after 2015. That might be a good strategy. He'd cost a whole lotta dough though

He'll be 30ish...not bad...but the cost-to-benefit is potentially too high. I don't want this team to essentially only have one shot...i'll take it, but I hope they develop the consistency that would more likely ensure a victory.

The "kids" are very soon going to want GAM Money, too...

We've got the "kids" who can actually demand money locked up through 2020 (Castro, Rizzo). We'll have plenty of cost controlled years over guys like Bryant, Baez, Russell, Soler, etc. That isn't a worry at all.

I just hope we get some kind of pitching this winter. I'd prefer if it came via free agency, unless we get a very favorable trade. I honestly wouldn't mind Scherzer or Lester, for the right price.

I'm not saying that I don't want Price, he'd immediately be our best, most proven pitcher. That's a very valuable asset to have, but I'm not comfortable giving up what the Rays want to get him. I'd be all for going out and signing him though.

Yeah, don't want to get back into the Hendry mindset of tossing prospects for late prime players.

Build the farm a few more years, then start thinking about those types of moves.

I think Lester is the more likely option. Given the familiarity. And wouldn't give up the farm.

Speaking of "kids," Kris Bryant has ascended to top prospect in baseball status according to ESPN.com's Keith Law. Law is definitely not my favorite prospect guy out there, but it's pretty significant that Bryant has gone ahead of Buxton--others evaluators may agree.
