Assuming Baez and Bryant maintain their trajectory, and Alcantara develops into a pro-level MIF....

...what is the plan for Castro?

If the Cubs can't figure out why he could hit for two years, but could hardly put the bat on the ball last year...If they trade him, will it be because he can't be helped or because they realize they over-coached and messed up his approach?

I doubt they trade him after one year. Especially when they just signed him to a very cap friendly long term extension. Now if this trend continues, then I would visit the idea of shipping him off but remember, he is only 24 years old. I think he will be fine.

Meh, I wouldnt say he deserved an everyday slot.

That being said, I would enjoy seeing them both get a nice run in the lineup. Or at least Kalish if not Lake.

Cross that bridge when they get there which is at least 1/2 years away.

Also, we have to prepare ourselves for the moment when some of these prospects(everyone but Baez and Bryant) dont make it to the Majors as a Cub.

I fully expect some of these guys to be used to acquire some pitching talent

        .........

        But to answer your hypothetical.

Baez to 2nd. Bryant to 3rd or if Olt has developed into the top talent everyone thought he would be, Bryant to a corner OF spot.

I'll take Starlin** over Arismendy unless you really covet that SH flexibility.

**- I'm making the assumption in this hypothetical that Starlin returns to form

Really? Not even a chance to secure it? There is an argument to be made that at the end of the year he was our most dynamic offensive player. Given, he needs work in the field but the tools are most definitely there. Realistically they could give both him and Kalish a real shot.

Couldnt the same be said for Ryan Sweeney before his injury?

I agree...and certainly should have said that I hope he continues the decent production he's had over the first week, especially considering the 0-8 start he had (iirc)

From a GM standpoint, one has to consider when a guy like this has his highest trade value...

If he continues to falter and show lots of dead space between his ears, that would be sooner rather than later...

On the other hand, even a relative rebound might not change that situation...

Say he has a year with only marginal improvement in plate discipline, defensive focus, and OBP...and and average between 270 and 290......If, in fact, Alcantara develops as projected, or seems to be on that trajectory, Castro's trade value still likely remains highest at the end of this year.

Of course, I hope he suceeds and is for the Cubs what it appeared he would be a couple of years ago.

I'm speaking from the perspective of the Cubs being about "developing for the future". Sweeney isn't going to be part of any long term plans. Lake, at 24 years old, has shown the tools to be a real part of that conversation. The speed, the power, the arm etc.

                  I like this team...

And I like Castro being moved down in the order...I just hope they don't move him up.

A free-swinger with dangerous pop is a nice guy for the 6 hole, and serviceable at 5.

He was never going to have the discipline to hit 2nd...

With how bad our offense has been, Rick better think about making Wood an everyday player lol

                      The struggle continues;

The Chicago Cubs feel like Sammy Sosa owes them an apology, and the former slugger told ESPNDeportes.com on Thursday that he is willing to sit down with the club to make amends.

Yesterday's debacle was pretty wild, even by Cubs standards. Apparently they're going to roll out the 100th treatment again in 2016 for when the Cubs actually moved into Wrigley so they should get another crack at it..

                      Ruggiano though..

Man - as rough as this season has been, scoring 17 runs on the Redturds almost makes up for it(almost)

What has gotten into Rondon? I never remember him throwing this hard. He was hitting 98 against the Brewers easily.

Nice back to back wins. Now we have to face Tanaka again. Hopefully this showing is a little better than the last.

So...should the club consider keeping Samardzija?

I understand all the reasons behind trading him...and am not against it...

but we all know pitching is not always easy to acquire, and lots of potentially good teams are hindered because they can't get it done on the mound.

I can't recall what he's asking for, but I can't imagine him truly believing he has earned top-tier money.

If he keeps these numbers up, he won't ask for anything less than top-tier money.

In the off-season, I believe he was looking for upwards of $110M or so.. similar to what Homer Bailey got.
