Re: Seattle Mariners 2012 team thread

I watched on a post-game interview that Wedge is clearly angry with how the Mariners are performing, and has 'threatened' to send down anyone who wasn't producing by the halfway point of July.

Just get Smoak and Ackley out of there, please...to see them start the season at the top of the order to going down to the bottom 3 is just not good

I wish that applied to the manager and his staff who have clearly failed developing a single young hitter on the M's.

I'm starting to turn the corner on the "trade Felix" situation. I never thought I'd say that.

We would need a major-league return, not MOAR prospects.

I don't want it to happen but it might make sense.

If it does, we need a MASSIVE haul. Upton and Bauer from Arizona. I'm thinking of a package like that, and it would just START with them.

Maybe that shows my unwillingness to let The King go when it all comes down to it.

It's either that or let him walk away for nothing in 2014.

Take what you can, while you can still take it.

Or extend him again when Ichiros off the books.

If you trade Felix to become a playoff contender, the next thing you're gonna need is an ace. You already have an ace.

This team leads the majors in runs scored on the road.

The ballpark is in their heads.

Sick of the national media trying to convince Mariners fans that it's the 'right thing to do' when it comes to trading Felix. **** all of those guys.

Top 5 pitcher just entering his prime is worth 10/250 - Seattle can't and won't give him that. And even if they could and would, Boston or New York can and will top it.

It may not be the right thing to do, but it's either that or let him walk. He's not going to be there after 2014.

2014 is a long time for things to get better. The offense obviously is capable of being decent given how well they perform on the road. If he walks, he walks. I'd rather take the chances that our offense improves within two years than to just say **** it and trade him for more prospects that may or may not pan out. We already have one of the proven best pitchers in baseball under control for two more years. Why trade him now for a bunch of guys who might not pan out anyways? We've got prospects already.

If you were to move him this year (not just before the deadline, but even in the offseason) you can get MLB ready talent AND prospects in return. If you wait another year, his trade value obviously goes down. If you wait until the 2014 deadline, his value gets even lower. It's not like the Indians got much back for their two Cy Young winning pitchers since they waited until the deadline to move both. Just the way it works. By not moving him they are taking a huge gamble on the longshot that he doesn't leave (which he will) so management is stuck in between a rock and a hard place right now. If they trade him now, the fans will riot. If they just let him walk at the end of his deal, the fans will riot. The M's front office is not in an enviable position right now when it comes to Hernandez, that's for sure.

Honestly... Seattle can Go up to Sabathia numbers for this guy with a new tv deal coming.

They're trying to keep payroll Down to sell though - but they'd piss the fan base off so much. This year, 27 mil in ichy and figgins. **** clear that off the books and there's your Felix money. The payroll is around 90-100 mil. We're not small market anymore.

Like I said, I still see no good reason why he should or would stay in Seattle for 10/250 and keep losing (the poor bastard has NEVER pitched in a playoff game once) when he can go to Boston or New York for 10/300 and get to play in the playoffs practically every year. No good reason.

Maybe not every athlete wants to pitch for a New York or Boston.

I think Felix Hernandez wants to WIN.

Above anything else. When he's on the hill, he breathes fire. He gets pumped when he gets a big out and he gets pumped when a teammate makes a big play. He really seems like a great kid; a great teammate.

This is his EIGHTH season in Seattle. He has won 92 games... Less than 12 wins per season despite being in the discussion of the game's most dominant starting pitchers for the better part of the past six seasons or so. What does he have to show for his time in Seattle? No playoff appearances. 40+ starts in his career where he has gone 7+ innings and surrendered 2 earned runs or less and either taken a loss or a no-decision. He should have around 120 wins right now and the organization should have put some talent around him much earlier so the kid could have some success here. Instead, all he knows is losing.

I love Felix, but sometimes I don't know if I believe him when he says he loves Seattle and wants to be a Mariner forever. I am not saying he's being dishonest, but eventually you get tired of the same losing ways year after year. I think it does wear on him. Ever notice how he doesn't pitch that well with a big lead? He's rarely given a lead to begin with. He's used to being down 1-0 and just trying to keep the other team from scoring again so he can give himself a chance to win.

I want him to be a Mariner for life and hope it happens, but I think when the big market teams come in and offer him $25/30 million per season, and they actually have a winning tradition, that might be hard to pass up. I pray to God I'm wrong but he deserves better than this.

Eight years, and this organization has wasted him. I admit I am jaded a bit. I hope they sell the team so changes can be made, but I hate feeling like the Mariners don't deserve Felix's talents and I fear more when he realizes that, too.
