    re: 2014 Cincinnati Reds Thread

I'd be okay with on the order of 4 years/$65 million. More years or money and I'd question it.
    NFL: Indianapolis Colts (12-6)
    NBA: Indiana Pacers (42-13)
    MLB: Cincinnati Reds (0-0)
    NHL: Detroit Red Wings (26-20-12)
NCAA: Purdue Boilermakers (FB: 1-11, BB: 15-12), Michigan Wolverines (FB: 7-6, BB: 19-7, H: 15-10-3)

If Choo is smart he'll stick with the Reds. Not every player gets to play with as feared a hitter as Votto. Part of Choo's success is due to having that presence behind him.
We've got to remember though this is his life and he is going to do what is best for him and what needs to be done to support his family. I'd love the Reds to have Choo batting leadoff for them for the next 4 years but I'm not holding my breath. If it were me and I had a family to support with my career only lasting maybe 10 more years I may very well take the money and run.

THat being said I do think the Reds have an advantage in being a club that will compete for a pennant for the next several seasons.

One of my favorite practices the last two years is making myself crack up over the losers we ran out there compared to the stable we have today... Here are a few more:

Matt Belisle, Chris Reitsma, Elmer Dessens, Jimmy Haynes, Denny Graves (started 26 games in 2003!), Brandon Claussen, Cory Lidle, Paul Wilson, Elizardo Ramirez, Eric Milton, Josh Fogg!!!

Wish we had this last October:

"Reds now 5-0 in games with a chance to sweep and have won 8 row in a sweep situation (FS Ohio)."

I've always said managers can never win games, but they sure can cost you games. Lucky for us, the players picked up Dusty in the 9th after his managing debacle.

Dusty fell asleep in the 7th inning and didn't get the bullpen cracking when Latos started fading. The fact that no one was available to come into the game when Rick Ankiel came up, who had already doubled twice off Latos, is negligent, game losing managing. Of course Ankiel tripled.

And in a tie ballgame....why the hell is Alfredo Simon pitching the 8th inning?!?!?!?! Why not Broxton...or Marshall...or even LeCure???? Thank God he got that double play.

Derrick Robinson needs to be playing more. Gotta give the kid a chance. He's played good when he's been in so far this year.

I can live with bringing Logan Ondrusek into a 3-run game. Didn't make sense to let him stay in there and get shelled for 3 runs. Perhaps after he gives up the first run, bring in a real reliever.

Instead, we get a healthy dose of....Manny Parra???

Fortunately the Reds have a good enough team this year that most of the managerial problems are about which fairly decent reliever to toss into the game during high-leverage situations. With how deep the Reds' bullpen is I don't think that will hurt them much over the course of a season.

This statement is accurate over the course of a season but could become painfully inaccurate over a seven, five or (gasp!) one game series.

Joey Votto is still awesome. If he ever pulled a ball too he'd hit a lot more homers...

I enjoy watching that man play the game of baseball. He is a treat for us Reds fans.
