I think this will be a telling year for Cueto. I would be OK letting him walk, especially if it means we can keep Latos. Cueto when he is healthy is our best pitcher, but he has to prove he can stay healthy. Im glad were keeping Homer, but it is a lot of money for what he has done up until now. But they are paying him for the progress he has made the last 2 years and what they believ he will do in the future. If he had hit the open market there is a good chance he would have gotten more than he did.

Re: 2014 Cincinnati Reds Thread
Considering the Reds gave a 28-year old starting pitcher who is on the verge of blasting through the glass ceiling of elite status that long-term contract versus a 32-year-old outfielder...I'm happy.
All the Reds need to do now is lock up Latos and Bruce to long-term contracts, and convince Cueto to take an incentive-based extension.
And for people who are worried about money, I think with the extra revenue that is starting to pour into baseball, and with local TV rights starting to soar, the Reds current $30 million deal could go up to as much as $75 million when they renegotiate in 2016.
Money won't be an issue.
Either way the Reds need to win and they have what should be a good foundation. It's time for these young guys to become the player's they want to be and we need them to be. I still feel like the they are hinging this season on a ton of what if's, so in the end they will look like geniuses or idiots.#WeAreUKComment

Re: 2014 Cincinnati Reds Thread
It was only 2 games, but Hamilton showed exactly why I'm psyched for him to be our every day leadoff hitter. I'm specifically talking about his first at bat of the 2 games. He worked the count deep both times, then walked & got a base hit to the opposite field. Once he got on base he caused issues. First time he stole second and the catcher threw it away and he got to third. Yesterday the pitcher threw it away trying to pick him off first. Now i'm not expecting that stuff to happen every time he gets on base, but I do think it will happen more than normal.
Now lets just hope he can get on base consistently. Because if he can't what I just said is a moot point :/Cincinnati Reds University of Kentucky Cincinnati Bengals

If anything, by hitting Brandon Phillips behind Billy Hamilton, it should limit the amount of double plays by Phillips.Comment

I'm getting really excited for the season. I usually don't watch until Opening Day. On Opening Day I put all my Reds stuff on, head to Skyline, bring it home and watch the game, usually with a few tears in my eyes because I'm so happy it's back.

Re: 2014 Cincinnati Reds Thread
Did you guys know that Billy Hamilton is 3rd in All Time stolen bases in the MLB? Crazy considering he was only 1 away from being tied for 2nd. Of course no one is close to Ricky Henderson's numbers though.
Anyway, thought it was interesting. Oh yeah, this Billy Hamilton played baseball from 1888-1901 which is still very impressive considering it was only 13 seasons.

Re: 2014 Cincinnati Reds Thread
Aroldis Chapman was hit in the face, & was carted off the field w/ multiple fractures to his face...the game was called. looks as if he's going to be ok. the pitch was an estimated 99mph so it probably hit his face 120+ what a scary moment.

I'm sure there are better clips, but due to MLB copyrights it's hard to upload any footage.
*UPDATE ON AROLDIS CHAPMAN:*
In the sixth inning of tonight’s game vs the Royals at Surprise Stadium, Reds LHP Aroldis Chapman was struck above the left eye by a Salvador Perez line drive.
Chapman was taken to Banner Del E. Webb Medical Center in Sun City, where tests indicated fractures above his left eye and nose. He has been transferred to Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center, where he will undergo further testing. He will be kept overnight for observation.
We will update his status tomorrow morning.
Thank you for all the thoughts and prayers.

Hoover will get first crack at closer
"Hopefully in the next couple of weeks he'll be able to get back to exercising, throwing and hopefully be back within six-to-eight weeks to contact," Kremchek said. "The problem is you don't want him to get back to pitching or contact too soon just in case of another accident, a collision or another baseball hits him again."Comment

Re: 2014 Cincinnati Reds Thread
Sounds like he's gonna be okay, obviously a concussion and some fracture but I'm not hearing any permanent damage like blindness, etc.

Re: 2014 Cincinnati Reds Thread
Looks like Chapman will be out 6-8 weeks plus rehab time. Lucky he didn't lose an eye.
And Cueto was scratched today due to irritation in the shoulder blade. I don't know about you, but that sounds awful close to that catchy lat of his.Comment
