He is just reinforcing a policy thats was already in place. Guys can still have facial hair, they just need to keep it trimmed up and not look like a bum. I dont see it as a big deal cause he already said Corky Miller is just fine

Bailey is really good, but man... That's a lotta dough.

Still, doing it at GABP, gonna be 28, couple no hitters on the résumé... It's probably a good idea to keep him around. Any team that can throw out quality pitcher after quality pitcher like the Reds can with Latos, Cueto, Bailey, Leake, and Cingrani/whoever is going to compete every year.

I haven't forgotten the lean years when it seemed like pitchers came to Cincy to die. This is a luxury I'd like to continue to have. Plus, I like the story of Bailey's career. I can't say I'm upset that the owner is willing to open up the checkbook to keep a guy like Bailey around. We're not just gonna let him walk because we're priced out. That's a good signal for us as fans, and for the players too. This isn't the MLB's farm system like Florida, Oakland, etc.

I wonder what the market is for him? Are we overpaying here or getting a bit of a discount?

Same here but glad they seem to have the $. You typically dont see small market teams handing out the money like Mr. C has been doing.

Mr C did say when he bought the club that winning starts now, so I always felt he was committed to getting the Reds back to be yearly contenders. I was surprised and happy at the same time when they gave Votto his deal.

Pitching is and has to be top priority, but 6 years isnt something I would want to give a pitcher if I was a owner. Pitchers now days are so dang fragile, it is definitely a huge gamble.

Id say the contract is probably inline with what he would get in FA. I dont think we are overpaying to keep him, but were not really getting no home town discount either really. I could see someone offering him a little more dollar wise if he hit the open market.

Overpaying yes, considering on our team he is best a #3. Rather them save the money for Latos who is younger and better and Cueto in a couple years

I want Latos locked up no matter what. Cueto I would be okay with letting him walk because of the injury history. He's gonna want big money, and someone will give it to him and get burned for it.

I like the Bailey deal, I don't believe it's a bargain or an overpay. Sure, it'd be nice if he had more than two 200 inning seasons, but if he did he would be getting more than it looks like he's getting.

Assuming Cueto's 2015 option is exercised by the Reds, then Cueto, Latos and Leake will all be free agents after the 2015 season. That leaves Bailey and Cingrani of the current rotation who have major league experience. Now hopefully someone like Robert Stephenson could be ready to be a decent contributor at that point, or someone else comes out and performs well. I'm not too familiar with the farm system right now, but we know that you cannot guarantee prospects to succeed, or succeed right away (Bailey is a good example).

The Reds have never had a huge budget, so it might be tricky to keep Latos around if/when he hits free agency, especially since he would only be 28 his first year of his free agent contract. Cueto, as mentioned, has had some injury issues recently and if those continue the Reds might not want to take the risk to bring him back. Leake has been a solid pitcher as well, and will only be 28 in his first free agent contract as well, so that might end up being a tough sign too.

Bailey has been improving the past two seasons and if this deal does happen, then hopefully he will continue that trend.

GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- Reds pitcher Homer Bailey will definitely be part of the team's rotation for the long haul. He and the club avoided arbitration Wednesday by agreeing to a six-year, $105 million contract, a source told MLB.com.

Considering the Reds gave a 28-year old starting pitcher who is on the verge of blasting through the glass ceiling of elite status that long-term contract versus a 32-year-old outfielder...I'm happy.

All the Reds need to do now is lock up Latos and Bruce to long-term contracts, and convince Cueto to take an incentive-based extension.

And for people who are worried about money, I think with the extra revenue that is starting to pour into baseball, and with local TV rights starting to soar, the Reds current $30 million deal could go up to as much as $75 million when they renegotiate in 2016.

                              Money won't be an issue.

Tanaka was paid 60 million? more than that and has proven nothing. Bailey is in his prime and has continued to get better. I thought we should have locked Latos up first, but the $$ part of it is decent imo. AJ Burnett just got 16 mil. Bailey is a lot better than him.
