Re: 2014 Cincinnati Reds Thread
4 game winning streak, bats seem to be coming alive a bit and guys like Bailey & Hoover are pitching much better now. Maybe there is still some hope for this years team. Now we just need to get Votto & Latos back 100%.Cincinnati Reds University of Kentucky Cincinnati Bengals

Re: 2014 Cincinnati Reds Thread
So I was in my season ticket seat in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina watching my Myrtle Beach Pelicans play and I was sitting with a Cardinals fan who was visiting the grand strand area from St. Louis. Now, as a Reds fan, I don't usually even make eye contact with Cardinal fans let alone associate myself & talk with Cardinals fans, but this one guy in particular was a great guy and by far the best St. Louis fan I've ever met. Very respectful and even admitted that he thought Brandon Phillips was the man, would love to see him in St. Louis and still considers him the best 2B in baseball. Also, he really wants to see Billy Hamilton succeed. Thought it was cool to hear that.
So, we got to discussing team needs and he (Cards) offered me (Reds) a trade. We played a little GM, discussing a move we would potentially make if we were the GMs of our respected teams.
He offered Jon Jay or Matt Adams (our choice) so we'd have a replacement for Ludwick/Heisey, + Kolten Wong (2B) so we'd have a replacement 2B, for Brandon Phillps.
So, Jon Jay/Matt Adams + Kolten Wong for Brandon Phillips. Perhaps the Cards would even take some of Brandon's contract. I like Brandon and all, always have, but we've got to do something in the outfield and the Cards may be looking to move one of theirs. I think it's a fairly realistic move.
If they would be willing to pay off some of Brandon's contract, even a little bit, that would sweeten the deal even more.

Re: 2014 Cincinnati Reds Thread
The difference between this year's offense and last year's offense is that last year's offense had two guys in the lineup who got on base at over a .400 clip. Coincidentally, both those guys scored over 100 runs (Choo and Votto). We let Choo walk (rightly so considering the contract he got), but we didn't try to replace him, instead anointing the studly Billy Hamilton to hit lead off. So of course the offense was going to suffer. I don't think anyone saw this level of suckage coming.
2013: 698 runs scored (4.31/gm), .254/.363/.380 with RISP
2014: 215 runs scored (3.47/gm), .214/.294/.373 with RISP
In other words, this offense sucks, and it's going to take more than Joey Votto coming back to right it. Jay Bruce looks more lost now than ever. Cozart was always known for his glove, but he provided just enough offense worthy of keeping him in the lineup. Not so much this year.
Imagine where we would be without Devin Mesoraco and Todd Frazier?Comment
