SMH, bring Broxton in for a tie game in 8th, but refuse to bring him in with a one run lead in the 7th #fireprice

Broxton threw 29 pitches two nights ago and 14 pitches last night. He was most likely not available. LeCure has given up five runs his last three appearances. I'm starting to wonder if there is something wrong with his arm. His average fastball velocity is down 2 mph, which then in turn makes his secondary pitches not as effective. Hoover's walk rate has doubled. Parra's walk rate is up. And Ondrusek...how has he remained on this team?

Why not call up Jumbo Diaz from AAA (16sv, 1.42era, 9bb, 30k)?

Sadly we can't throw Broxton and Chapman out there every day (Sam was in this category, but he's struggled recently). Granted, throwing Marshall on the DL for 'general ineffectiveness' (that's what I'm calling it) is a move in the right direction, throwing Cingrani into a long-relief role is not. He needs to be in AAA working on his secondary pitches and mechanics every fifth day, not going out there and throwing his fastball for an inning or two. But then again, the move is a necessity because the front office is suffering from paralysis as far as the bullpen is concerned.

I'm starting to lose my patience with Jocketty. Too much standing pat with this roster.

I am curious as to how you are expected to win under these circumstances.

Biggest player added this offseason was Brayan Pena.

Lost a .423 on base percentage at the top of the line up (with power too), and replaced it with a unknown commodity which has produced a .296 OBP.

Bailey, signed to a big extension, has struggled to start the year.

Latos, your 2nd best starting pitcher, just made his first start of the season on the 14th of June.

Votto, the best hitter year after year, missed 25 days so far.

2nd best power bat, Bruce, has struggled all season. Knee surgery on top of that.

What about our bench? Bernadina? I'm sure glad the Reds let Xavier Paul walk to have Bernadina as a back up outfielder, Paul was at least a solid bat for his two (partial) seasons in Cincinnati. Shoot Derrick Robinson did better than Heisey is doing now. Or Schumaker (although you would expect more from him, more in line with his career line).

Now on the other side, there have been surprises.

Mesoraco has mashed this season, no doubt about it. But he's also missed 20 days with injury as well.

Simon has been great this season, no one thought he would be able to do anything like this from the rotation.

Frazier is back at it after a down season last year, hitting very well and providing a lot of power.

Cueto is lights out this season, and for the most part healthy. Hopefully he'll stay in full health all season.

I don't believe Dusty would have had a chance this season, personally I don't believe this is a problem with the manager. A good part in on the guy making the roster moves, the General Manager. Then the rest is bad luck with injuries. Injuries are always part of the game, and unfortunately they've happened to the best players on the team. The depth used to fill in has done nothing this season.

I don't know how the expectations are even to do as well as the Reds did last season. They lost a whole lot more than they brought in to replace it.

These were the same issues last year when Jocketty did nothing and this offseason when Mose and Cruz lasted well into FA signing. My money is on this year he will do nothing once again, because a lot of other teams have same needs and are willing to be BUYERS

Frazier saved Price once again, lmao @ pulling your best defender to plan for a scenario where Chapman blows the save, but does not lose it?? All so Bernadina would get to bat??

You know Price, you said when you was hired that you would use Chapman as more than just a 9th inning guy. Tonight seemed like the time to bring Chapman in to snuff out the Pirates rally in the 7th, let him pitch the 8th, and then have Broxton close the game. We have two closers for crying out loud....use them situationally like that!!!!

Instead, Sam gets into trouble (that's been a theme of late, again, I'm thinking he's hurt), then he goes to Parra, and then Ondrusuck. And when it takes you using three pitchers to get three outs, suddenly you force yourself to make decisions like leaving Ondrusuck to pitch the 8th and double-switching Jay Bruce for Roger Bernadina to try and save the bullpen in case it goes extras. (Apparently Cingrani wasn't available tonight)

On a positive note, I'm loving Frazier in that two hole, and Votto has been raking since he came off the DL. Ludwick has started hitting of late (amazing what a little job insecurity will do to a guy, something he wouldn't have had to worry about with Le Toothpick managing). And Hamilton getting on base four times tonight. That's what I want from leadoff.

Five out of six wins. One game from getting back to .500. If we could just solve our deficiencies in the bullpen, this team may be alright.

Man, Hamilton. Redsrule and I were saying on The Twitter how awesome it's becoming watching him play. That throw out at home was nice.

I thought the play by Pena was even better. Hamilton has a strong arm but it was a bit off line and Pena made a (game saving) play by making that nice tag to end the inning on McCutchen.

Our bullpen this year is awful. Outside of Broxton and Chapman it sucks. Hoover has been better of late (like a 2.5 ERA in his last 15 starts) but LeCure has been awful lately, Ondrusek as well & Parra has struggled after signing his nice deal. Not to mention the albatross of a contract that is Sean Marshall that has done exactly squat.

The bats are finally coming to life though which is huge if this team has a run in them. It could be everyone is finally healthy, or it could be Hamilton is becoming a better leadoff hitter by the day. Frazier has been fantastic all year. Bruce is back to his normal self (even if his overall #s do not indicate it).

Which should be a red flag. 33 year olds shouldn't be having near career years. They can't sustain it...especially when they have shoulder surgery the next year. And yet Dusty threw him out there the minute he came back, despite the fact it was painfully obvious that he had ZERO power and his bat speed was not there. (Though to be fair, Jocketty not getting another LF after that injury is indefensible).

Same way Dusty threw Scott Rolen back into the starting lineup in 2012 after coming back from his back injury when Todd Frazier was having a breakout rookie campaign (Still bitter about Rolen's error in Game 3.)

Billy Hamilton is up to a .278 batting average. His slugging percentage is 40 points higher than Jay Bruce's as well (.400 to .360). That is insane.

also higher BA than Votto, team has been playing extremely well lately now that all the horses are back, with that being said I hope they figure out the 7th inning woes ASAP. Just keep putting up big innings and it wont be an issue. Some crazy odd facts:

• Billy Hamilton has already done something Pete Rose only did once 3+ hits in 3 straight games. Rose had 4 straight in Sept, 1984
• Mesoraco-Votto-Bruce: All 3 play (17g): 5.4 R/G Just 2 play (31g): 3.2 R/G Only 1 plays (18g): 3.0 R/G None play (3g): 2.7 R/G
• since 5/28 Billy Hamilton is 15th in the NL in SLUGGING (.533).
