Cash says tax limitations got in the way of signing Keuchel.............. [emoji854]

Side note, watching Clint Frazier chase down fly balls stresses me out.

When they end up trading a good prospect for Stroman, I wonder what Cash will say then.

I would love to see us get Scherzer but I don’t think it’s very realistic. Nationals really don’t have to trade him, unlike the Giants with Bumgarner for example. Hard for me to see Cashman part with the kind of haul it would take to get him.
Even though he’s a bit older I would think they’d demand an MLB ready piece be involved. Wouldn’t be so sure that an injured 3B who can’t play defense, or an OF who struggles defensively, in the NL where’s there’s still no DH is enticing enough. Not trying to bash Frazier, like him and hope he isn’t traded but gotta look at it from a non fan perspective.

Hal would also have to stop being cheap. Wouldn’t even go a few million more for Keuchel. Scherzer’s contract is far from team friendly. He’d be losing out on a lot of money he could just continue pocketing instead.

Yeah I don't really expect it but man...there's too many things that would have to happen. Outside of the cost in both salary and prospects, the Nats would have to bottom out.

I don't like Bumgarner, never have. Trevor Bauer has come back down to Earth from last year, the cost would probably be lower depending on whether they think he can consistently produce down the stretch. Stroman is as good an option as we have right now I guess. I like him, but not sure if I trust he's the difference maker. Feels inevitable we end up with him at this point.

I think Bumgarner is the best option. He’s still just 29 and he’s a proven playoff pitcher. I think it’s pretty safe to say he could he could handle NY as well. He’d be the most sure thing in the rotation in my opinion.

If they are going to win it all with the rest of this rotation they’ll probably need to hope he has one more October miracle in him. I don’t trust Stroman. Not a fan of the idea of sending a package of young talent to the Jays either.

You like Bauer more then Bumgarner? I mean not just based on performance, but overall?

Im actually surprised MadBum is so young, I don't know if that makes me feel better or worse about him. I don't feel like he's the guy who had those October runs anymore.

I don't like Bauer but his antics are off the field and easier to ignore. MadBum is going to put me in a situation where he's yelling at a Red Sox hitter and I agree with the Red Sox, I can't have that kind of conflict. It could swing the other way though, if other people hate him enough I'll rally behind him by default. He might be an "if he's on your team" guy. He could be a CC-like figure going forward.

So Cashman basically turned Nick Rumblelow into Edwin Encarnacion. Cashman is a wizard.

If they were willing to spend the way they should be this is a great move, but taking on any salary to get a player that isn’t a real need before addressing the real need is worrying to me when we keep hearing about luxury tax again and again.

At least this makes for a very entertaining lineup once Stanton and Judge get back soon. Excited to see it in action. HR’s everywhere. But by far the best part of this trade? Pretty much guarantees Morales will never play a single game for the Yankees ever again.

Edwin at DH forces Stanton and Judge to the OF, what happens to Clint?

I think he becomes a trade piece. I always thought they would hold on to him and he would replace Gardner next year, but I’m not sure if it makes sense to send him down for the rest of the year.

So the Edwin thing came out of nowhere. And makes no sense. Stanton and Judge are back within a week. Frazier has been fine offensively. Better then expected.

I mean the lineup is going to be terrifying. But I think Cashman has something under his sleeve. He knows this team can win it all. Another ace and this group can be devastating.

This lineup is not gonna fold in October. There's too many problems

Bench is stacked. Pitching, Pitching, Pitching.

Any chance Encarnacion is a trade piece as well as Frazier?

Definitely agree that Cashman isn’t finished as well.

Possibly. One thing I can't remember. Can you trade an injured player? You could package Frazier and Andujar and likely net something pretty damn good. I'm not against it.

Why trade Andujar though? I think Urshela is starting to play more realistically, and he is not the hitter that Andujar is. I’m not sure I see who you “replace” Andujar with for the future.
