    Re: Blocks are ridiculous!

I agree. Blocks are ridiculous. My main gripe is that a great blocked doesn't have to be timed. You can just mash the block button. I love the sound effects of a nice block though. Got a chase down block last night in a mycareer game. Swatted it off the back board and it felt nice. LOL. But I'm not the type to abuse it. I try to play the game realistically.

But everybody is a shot blocker in this game. I guess it's a necessary evil in user vs user competition. But it really needs to be nerfed IMO. But if it's gonna mess the game up in other areas, leave it alone till 2k17 or till they can get it right.

Don't know if there's a perfect solution. Maybe adjust verticals for non-shot blockers or guards. Maybe if you hit block at the wrong time, it's an automatic foul. With live ball turned on again, it may not be an easy fix.

I'm not going to lie. I would be mad as hell if Curry snatched my shot out of the air like that, lol.

I guess my question is why doesn't the block ratings matter and let that be the determination for as a guy can making certain blocks. It's almost like the block ratings mean very little because they all are shot blockers

Necessary evils aside: your point on making ratings matter more is central to simulation pursuits.

At default, blocks are indeed possible by virtually any player but not just any type of block: emphatic, spectacular blocks can be performed in any given situation by virtually any given player regardless of size and athleticism.

Now, I can lower block slider to 40 and fix this. I can also lower block success. This is not how 2K fixes the sliders though - 2K tunes how much performance each value in the sliders give you by default.

Imagine the effect if you give 100 block ability to everyone but in sliders we give 0 to block success. Now imagine we give them 0 to block ability and 100 to block success?

2K needs to tune the blocking ability so that we see more whiff blocks that are "out of play / out of the possible block radius". This is the only way we will see players separated by ratings more. We need to tune this in such a way that the block attempt can always be triggered but is not reaching the intended target at a very often rate for the most part.

We don't need to turn it into a foul fair but just work on reducing the warp ability that gives nearly everyone a solid chance at executing a successful block.

Make "40" the new universal 50 for block ability and for block success keep it at 50 playing as 50. Keep it at 50 so the elite continue to deliver elite blocks but the dogs have a chance too within their smaller window of opportunity.

*If thru tuning the 50 success is still too OP - make 40 the new 50 for block success in the default environment.

Probably the best PoV I have read in here - not over the top, and very sensible with your understanding of the give and take of these neccessary evils.

Right now, everyone is Very Successful by default and this is a bit overpowering even if it's a neccessary evil - it's gone too far. We certainly want blocks to stay but to stay close to realistic.

                Re: Blocks are ridiculous!

The reason why the fast break ones happen is because the animations to start a dunk or layup slow the offensive player down. Meanwhile, the chaser is still running 100mph and doesn't slow down when they press jump to contest.

Couple you slowing down to dunk, the defence being able to maintain momentum, and every player having the dexterity to jump before you do and still block you as soon as you raise the ball up, and you have almost automatic block shots on any fastbreak.

I've tried doing layups, two handed dunks (because it seems every OH dunk is the guy stretching the ball as far back behind his head as possible) but I never fail to get chased down by whoever is behind me. Now I always try to do an alley oop (which is broken, people are throwin behind their head alley oops running at full speed with the likes of Corey Brewer) or run right beside the rim before trying to lay it in.

Man, listening to all of this, I just can't wait until they tune blocking, so I can see the resurgence of topics about the game moving the blocker's arms out of position in weird animations to make up for 'ratings', and hands going through balls because the game said 'not time for you to block this.' Going to be hilarious.

Why do you assume 2K can only tweak things badly when they have plenty of animations where the blocker looks right failing the block or contest attempt?

Jared Dudley just blocked Bogut's layup straight up.

Yeah, I'll take the sim model, even with the occasion visual artifact if necessary. You can crank blocks to 100 if that bothers you.

Why? It was a poor shot selection in the paint with Curry all over the guy. I could easily see Curry doing that in real life.

I can't and I'm a Curry homer that watches almost every game.

He's never done a snatch away block ever.

Agreed. I'm a big fan of curry but those types of defensive plays isn't something he does. And that's the thing, if curry can do that then it means virtually anyone in the game is capable of such a play.

I think 2k aim was a more defensice game but they should have kept those plays limited to known defensive players like the Jimmy Butlers and Ariza's. That way those badges and ratings really meam something.

Because we've been through 16 years of this, with the exact same results. So why the hell should I think otherwise?

Yep. What makes Curry a solid defender is his anticipation and quick hands, none of which are represented in this game accurately enough. So in turn, blocks are buffed.

                                I can provide examples too...

Watching the last episode of my boys 2K15 MyCareer....

His 5'8 PG just scored twice right on Dre Jordan...

One DJ jumped completely out of position going for a block on his layup

The other, the PG did a finger roll TOWARDS DJ, basically in his chest and he moves him back ward to score the layup...

Yeah.....I'm in complete agreement that blocking can be overdone....but I'm fighting tooth and nail not to go back to that ****. To flip Sundowns quote, y'all can turn blocks to 0 if it bothers you, lol
