Blocks are ridiculous!
It all comes from a "sim" place tbh
We're talking about wanting blocking here, not 360's in traffic.
Fact is, we just don't want defense at the rim compromised like it was last year....that's all.
So while the occasional block by Lowry on Blake Griffin makes you cringe
Patty Mills driving directly into DeAndre Jordan with no regard for the fact he exists....even going so far as to do a finger roll TOWARD him without the ball being obliterated makes me cringe even more....this was NBA 2K15...
What's funny is thread has gotten more attention then me and Goffs blocking issue threads combined almost....so everyone dropping the "I can't believe this is being defended" line....I hope you were in that thread too...
Here's to hoping the devs can find a balance in a patch or next year...

Re: Blocks are ridiculous!
My friend (we play locally offline at work) plays with the Clippers. He probably averages 2-3 blocks per game against my Wizards w/ Reddick, because Reddick tends to be the one in the backcourt to "challenge" my fast breaks. He gets about the same number of blocks/altered and missed shots with JJ as he does with DeAndre, due to the Wizards being a fast break dependent team...We start to laugh any time my fast break starts and he is turbo-ing with Reddick, cause we've seen his blocking expertise sooo many times that it becomes just a laughably unrealistic aspect to the game. When 2 gamers/(ballers for many years) in their 30's start to laugh during a fast break scenario in a purported basketball simulation game, you know something isn't right.

Blocks are ridiculous!
Only one problem. It's NOT occasional. If it was, there wouldn't be such a big stink...Put it like this...When I'm trailing Blake Griffin with Lowry, I EXPECT there to be a, let's say 50% chance I'm either going to block him clean or cause him to miss the dunk. 80% chance to do the same if he performs a backscratcher....And the reason I expect such good odds is because 2k16 has CONDITIONED me to be that way. With chase down acceleration, poor dunk selection by the offensive player (BTW, if he lays it up without a pump fake I will most certainly block him) and practically 0 chance there will be a foul on me. My opponents online play the same way. They'll chase down any of my players with ANY guard that they have that gets back and they have the exact same thoughts on their mind. Conditioned, by 2k16. I'm not making this up folks...EVERY opponent I've faced this week in my league knows about this foolishness. It rares it's ugly head after a couple of online games.
Blocking is overpowered. Especially chasedown blocks.
Odd part of my post to pick out but sure....if you see it at a 80% rate that's fine....id put my 2K15 example even higher tbh...it's no better just because it's on the offensive side of the ball.

if they have to it at the expense of everybody else, then I'd prefer they'd leave it alone
one thing I can't stand though, is when you are able to get a block on a poorly timed blocked attempt....like i'll jump like 2 seconds early and pretty much block it before the ball leaves their handsComment

Re: Blocks are ridiculous!
If devs can fine tune blocks and make them less OP for guards I'd be all for it

Re: Blocks are ridiculous!
The messed up thing is there are some really, really good rim protection blocks in the game. Not perfect but really well done.
The chase down blocks with guards 6' 2" or so just come across as video gamey. The guards are jumping way too high and traveling way too far of distance. I did a chasedown block with CP3 man, why because I know I can.
Whoever did the motion capture was an elite athlete for sure though probably one of the dunkers it looks sick but realism goes out the door.
Dev's if you can't make it realistic then leave it alone. I don't want the other paint blocking going away because chase downs are not real that would be bad.
The funny part of all of this is Blocking in 2K16 is what shooting was in 2K15 for patch 4.Comment

Re: Blocks are ridiculous!
i agree with the op, my center get blocked twice by an small pg in my park. my dunk rating is 94 with jordan pack ! i mean if big men stops me fine but let me dunk on small pg with low block rating.
i also managed to block centers multiple time with my 6'2" sg in the middle of their dunk...
it's too unrealistic can you imagine Blake griffin get blocked by tony parker !Comment

Re: Blocks are ridiculous!
I can put up with a few dodgy blocks here and there.... but what I hate this year is small guards, from a standing start, under the hoop going all superman and swatting nearly every ally oop attempt.
It's bad enough the stupid passing system this year, the double tap just doesn't register a lot.... flashy passes become bounce passes and allys become lobs. Then you finally throw what should be a good ally..... along comes a 6' pg flying out of nowhere to put it in the crowd.... or he is standing there and leaps higher than the hoop to catch it.... WTF?Comment

Re: Blocks are ridiculous!
I'm sure it has been mentioned in this thread, but honestly I only think there's 2 main issues with blocking this year:
1. Ratings should matter more. It should be significantly more difficult for me to get a block with Tony Wroten than John Wall. Same difference should exist between Tyler Zeller and Hassan Whiteside.
While it shouldn't be impossible to block a shot with an average PG, it should require perfect timing, whereas an elite shotblocker has a MUCH bigger window and reach.
2. This is the really the only thing that bothers me. The block opportunity should only exist once the ball is leaving the hand, or for a dunk, when it's on it's way to the rim.
Way too many blocks happen before you even get to the shot/layup release form, leading to the offensive player continuing the animation and looking like an idiot shooting or dunking an invisable ball.
While I know it's hard to find a balance as we don't want balls going through arms of course, the hand to ball tracking needs to be improved, nobody should block shots with their body or armpit or elbow.
Even in a situation where the defender gets so high that he COULD block it with his elbows, his hand needs to attempt to find the ball.
*Note if you go through tendencies, you'll notice that block shot tendencies are high across the board for non shot blocking bigs (meanwhile there's the odd 64 for Hassan Whiteside, it was the same last year)Die hard Heat and Dolphins fan since '89
