When you try to cover angles and establish the right position do you sprint to the spot or do you just use the left stick? Also how do you contest a shot when the defender gets closer to the basket, do you use RS or triangle?

90% of the time I hold LT ... Lol. Old habit. Especially playing against quicker guards, always having my fingers ready on LT and RT.
I used to lower my sliders for shot contest in 2K17. I truely believe a real contest is to jump and create pressure to the shooters. When I knew RS has an impact to the shot success factor, I became lazy with RS, and dun bother to jump attempting a block. So, I changed the way I approach the gameplay. Just like irl, I'll anticipate, and stay on the ground and try not biting on a fake, and jump to attempt a block instead of contest. Having said, if u check my video on 2K19 gameplay, I actually jumped alot and look damn silly bcos 2K19 (I suppose 2K18 too) AI does the pump fakes alot! I'll have to learn to not bite on pump fakes.
P.s. I dun usually check the cpu tendency pre-game unless l'm trailing in a playoff series. I'll go with my guts of how they play irl (and hope 2K replicate their tendencies accurately). More often than not, they dont on non-star players.

I dont think u can replicate CP3 for that move. See if anyone else can help u with this.

Guys, can you teach me how to contest a shot well in offline? I can’t defend the low post fade-aways of the likes of LeBron, KD. I am using the right stick. I always flick the right stick up at the same time the AI takes the shot. But they’re really automatic. They can’t literally miss in HoF

If i may, u can't defend a post fadeaway. There's a reason Hakeen and MJ are GOAT in this aspect. We only hope they miss.

Try deploying other means - like double team on catch or dribble.
If u really want to contest, hit the jump button the moment they spin. But cpu pump fake ... and if they do, up and under move triggered.

its in the above post. Call time-out and hit Y on gameplan change. Look for Primary Focus and toggle to find the Series u want to run.
Alternatively, hit .. should be right (else, left) on dpad and select Primary Focus. See Jyoung's post.

Here's a clip of how I (Wade) defended Cpu Westbrook in 2K17. Once I got this up in 2K19, if I ever, I will post again.

In the defensive gameplan, set smother for onball and go under for PnR. As I was able to keep up with Westbrook after the screen, he hit me with a hesitation escape dribble but I didnt bite on the bait, then he drove right and that's when I cut him off right there and he pulled up for jumper. Then I jumped to contest (u can see the contest was late but fortunately, he missed).
This was HOF 2K17 custom sliders.

I usually use LT+RT as well, cause as I said It seems a bit more responsive than sprinting right to the spot, which usually causes me to get killed on changes of direction.
Probably RS contest might be the best option for me as well, cause I'm out here looking like a fool or getting a ton of blocks, depending on which team I'm using. I'll try to force myself to use it more.

Any advice on how to best utilize the signature size-up dribbles? I like the animations, but the CPU doesn’t seem to react much, and it’s very difficult to explode towards the rim once the signature size-up begins.

For example- any tips for Curry, Durant, Westbrook, or Kyrie?

                          Thank you!

Can anyone explain how to break yourself off the defender when off the ball on offense? In all modes. Specifically in mycareer, park and proam/JRC.

example: I am a pg and I run a play and make the 1st pass then my next move is to run through the top of the key and then angle down into the corner. But the play always gets so delayed and slowed down cause I am trying to run and follow the blue arrows of the play but im literally stuck on the defender and you can feel from your controller that you dont have any control over him then finally i get free and can kinda run. Is there a certain way to get yourself unattached from the defender?!!

MyCareer pick & roll/pop defense help? Anyway to stop the cpu from switching all the time? There are times where I'm able to go over the screen and recover in good positioning but the cpu keeps switching leading their man to get an easy 3 pointer, mid-range shot, or free roll to the basket. Pretty frustrating.

Apparently pushing up on the right stick is a bank shot. Been playing that way forevers, no wonder most of my 2k19 shots were banks.

Complete newbie question... is there a way to change the shot mechanics so pushing up on RS is a normal shot, and down is a bank shot? Shooting involves moving your arms up, not down.
