Complete newbie question... is there a way to change the shot mechanics so pushing up on RS is a normal shot, and down is a bank shot? Shooting involves moving your arms up, not down.
Not sure. But tapping down on the R stick opens up the head fake which can be chained into an explosive first step.

Absolutely, I found out about the stronger pump fake by tapping down on the Right Stick when playing Prelude '19. (Tapping up feels like a weaker pump fake.)

I’ve had good success with the moving size ups so far this year. If you’re walking down court before you reach the three point line, tap up on the right stick. The defender usually shifts one way or another or engages you and then you can get some quick moves past them.

Also the blow by of last year is mostly a move by this year, the defender will be physical but you will have the advantage if you use your body to shield them off with a layup. Sometimes pressing the stick to take a layup towards the defender helps instead of trying to move it away.

Example - if defenders on your right hip, move the shot stick in that same direction.

example: I am a pg and I run a play and make the 1st pass then my next move is to run through the top of the key and then angle down into the corner. But the play always gets so delayed and slowed down cause I am trying to run and follow the blue arrows of the play but im literally stuck on the defender and you can feel from your controller that you dont have any control over him then finally i get free and can kinda run. Is there a certain way to get yourself unattached from the defender?!!

Doesn’t work all the time but lay off turbo when trying to get to spots off ball. Something about turbo makes your guy clunky when trying to get around others in crowded areas. If you just run through the play without you can move around a little better. If you have a curl screen or get a step on your guy feel free to turbo but in the initial movement don’t turbo.

In the defensive gameplan, set smother for onball and go under for PnR. As I was able to keep up with Westbrook after the screen, he hit me with a hesitation escape dribble but I didnt bite on the bait, then he drove right and that's when I cut him off right there and he pulled up for jumper. Then I jumped to contest (u can see the contest was late but fortunately, he missed).

Happy to report that I'm finally able to stay in front of ball handlers most of the time now, your tips were pure gold. I'm still not able to contest in a effective way but I'll work on that, most of the time I end up being late like it's shown in your Wade clip and I get scored on. It feels like there's an animation delay for some reason, or maybe I still can't understand correctly offensive animations and read them to correct my timing. Anyway I don't want to sound like I'm complaining full time cause I've reported this several times already so I'll probably stop saying this after this post lol.

Re: NBA 2K19 Teach Me How To Thread : Tips, Plays, Defense

So I'll admit I'm not the greatest player at BB games. I have barely played one in 10 years so having picked up NBA Live 18 last year I had fun with that. I avoided 2k18 because of all the bad reviews on the MyCareer grind which is the type of game mode I like to play.

Anyway having played Live 18 and 19 now a bunch this game is really frustrating me. I was scoring 40 points a game consistently as a SG Pro level, so I tried to go up one skill level. Now I can still score pretty well when I can get open then my shot timing isn't great so I miss now all the time on 3 pointers and I'm a shot creater / 3 point SG. I have my guy up to 88 overall right now.

My problem really is with my team. They constantly will pass me the back ball when I pass to them, they will stand around and pump fake and stuff on open shots instead of shooting it when I pass to them. In Live you could make the CPU players shoot when you passed, is there a way to do that in this game? I mean I had Blake Griffin wide open in the corner for a 3, passed him the ball and he stared at the hoop for 2 seconds squating like he was going to shoot, then passed it inside for a turn over. HE WAS WIDE OPEN for a corner 3 he hits all the time and instead turned it over. So I just want to throw my controller at the screen at this point this game is frustrating me so much.

At the same time I want to get better and play harder levels. I don't want to keep playing it on Pro where I win 70% of my games, lead the league is scoring by like 6 points more a game than the next guy and so on.

How can you perform a pull up jumper in 2k19?

Last year all I had to do was let go of r2 to perform them. This year my guy will start a layup animation from 19 feet out or just do a normal jumper.

Dribble pull up animation u mean?
I dont have much success to do so at free throw line, but mid range towards baseline works for me.

Have u tried hard stop LT then pull up?

That's a tricky one...you have to make sure you're directly in front of the guy, being off to the side even a little can be the difference between a good shot contest and an O.K. shot contest.

There's sometimes a situation similar to that in the Rim Protector drill; I have the best luck when I get to the spot first so I can give the shooter a little bump before he gathers. If you force him to pick up early it's easier to defend.

I didnt want to comment on that as my initial thoughts were ... Good defense. Just better offense. Lol

I notice if i am able to contest (jump, not RS) with player he is suppose to defend, the success rate is much higher. I had Giannis on The Claw last night, he made a few of the many shot attempts. He shot 8-26 if I'm not mistaken. I had Giannis assigned to him all day.

In this clip, I suppose the Cpu blew by Winslow and pull up at the low block. The secondary defender helped in time to jump and contest. The success rate of the contest by that secondary defender could be lower, I dont know. Can the poster check the shot contest attribute rating of that help defender (looks like its Richardson)? I have a feeling if that was Whiteside, the success rate of alterating the shot is higher.

You're right, it was a somewhat late and slightly out of position contest by the help defender, that's definitely going to affect the quality of the contest.I almost think it would have been better if the help defender had pushed the left stick directly into the defender instead of jumping.

The success rate with Whiteside would definitely be higher, if nothing else than because he has Rim Protector, which is going to lower the shooter's rating and probably cancel out his badges.

The footage was on replay mode, can't really tell if its user or AI who's controlling Richardson on the help defense. The timing of the jump is pretty damn good though.

Here's my footage. In Pnr action, Butler (Cpu) attack away from ball screen and Middleton (user, me) who was a little too high at the 3 pt line was out of position to contest Butler who pulled up for mid range. Lopez who was guarding Town (I had set Catch on Hedge) came to help and contested the shot.

Both Middleton and Lopez were late on the contest.
They definitely alter the shot with lower success make.
