    I downloaded 2K20 and played two games with the last one a loss in triple OT. The game is more polished and less annoying than 2K22 on PS5. Feel like I wasted two years on next gen.

    PNR defence is solid. They show, sometimes go under, they help. Help defence rotates. They double hot players and mismatches. They can leave shooters too open but the drive and kick game is better too. I actually missed some FTs. I didn’t have to worry about the annoying button press on alley oops. I prefer the old shot meter.

    One thing I liked on defence was the circle indicator. To help with manual on ball defence the cpu would flash the direction.

    If I get this new game with league pass the one big benefit is getting old PS4 version. I should have bought the digital version with both games last year.

    Edit: next gen shooters are much smarter at staying behind the 3 point line tho. PS4 guys can annoy with being on the line.

      DEFENSIVE IMPROVEMENTS
      Last year, we built and re-wrote almost all of our major defensive systems. This year was all about refining them to deliver our best effort to date. Every phase of our defensive game has improved. From transition defense, where we can identify when the ball handler has been picked up, allowing the anchor to leave the paint and get to their man, to making the “NO THREES” setting work as intended. Rotations are sharper and more varied; pick and roll defense is tighter and smarter; and this year, players can choose to turn off drive, pick and roll. We’ve also improved cutter help individually as well to have more control over their Defensive Focus settings.
      NBA 2K23 also features performance-based defensive adjustments. In the past we knew how many points and assists the leading scorers had on offense and would make adjustments based on that information. However, the adjustments the AI made had to be generic because it wasn’t obvious how a given player racked up that scoring and assist total. This year our refactored success and action engine can track exactly how scorers are doing their damage. This engine can decipher post-scoring, off-screen actions, isolations and whether or not players are getting buckets at the rim. It can detect spot-up shots vs. players who like to come down and fire up long distance threes after a few dribble moves. Each of these scenarios have their own defensive adjustments that the AI will automatically roll out depending on how efficiently the scorers are making shots. As a user, with our adaptive engine turned on, these adjustments will automatically be made for you. But if you choose, you can also make your own adjustments using the defensive settings.
      The defensive AI is stingier with sending help until we know the opponent can actually take advantage of a particular opening. So at the beginning of games, you may notice drastically less help as your teammates wait to see if your opponent can actually take advantage of an open lane compared to last year. Of course, you’re free to turn off the auto adjustments and make your teammates help right from the jump if that’s the way you want to run your defense.
      disappointing how this is (as i understand it) only exclusive to next gen. it's especially shi**y for us sim heads on last gen because defense has been our main concern over the course of the last year. not only are we not getting these ai improvements, but we were probably short-changed on the fundamentals in general.



      ...good thing all of people voicing their concerns in this thread since page one were all on next gen!

        I get that it sucks (especially with 2K’s strange decision to keep the PC version as a last-gen port instead of next-gen), but at some point they need to stop splitting the dev team between the two and just focus all their manpower on next-gen only. The longer they take to do so, the longer people wait to upgrade to next gen, which then leads to an even longer wait before removing old-gen support, and thus we lose the benefits of having a next gen system entirely because they’re trying to keep parity with old gen.

        The sooner in a console generation they make the decision to “abandon” old gen, the sooner people jump to next gen and the better the games will be for it.

          dude i agree 100%. having two versions of 2k should should only last for ONE installment. i play on pc equipped with a $1,000 gpu so you can imagine how disappointed i get every year. it's bull. i wanna relive some of these new mj moments new-gen style on my new oled tv damnit! pile on these new ai advancements? i'm pretty tilted over this tbh.

I think unfortunately the 2K22 style of “defender stuck like glue” is more inherently challenging under a video game dynamic. But yes I’d like more human rotations and IQ. But it gets exploited so often in real life, just imagine how much it would in games.
              It wouldn't be a problem if 2K shot success rates were closer to real life shot success rates.

                I would if 2k let me...But I have a PC and don't have any chance of getting next gen...

                  I definitely had a league, that I told everybody was focused on realism, where we had similar stats to yours. Curry was averaging 13 makes per game.

                  People threw a fit when I lowered the 3PT success sliders because of that
