Well of they actually work I will try this! I just wish the normal help Defense slider worked too. I’m in my offseason but will get there soon.

Are you talking help defense strength? Eccentricmeat did testing on this and I believe that wasn’t does help come it was more effects on shot if help was close to effect the shot? Don’t quote me but I think that was his findings with it. I have just left that at 50. The d awareness like I said before does help on ball on recovery off dribble moves and scrambles though. Now keep in mind I tested help defense slider on Xbox x so not sure about other systems? But I could see the immediate effects when testing different ranges.

Does team defense work correctly in 17? I'm not saying it should be perfect but it should at least resemble basketball. I've seen more coordinated team defense playing pick up ball at the park and this is supposed to be NBA basketball.

Is it just because this game is tuned for park/MyPlayer gamer types and not basketball fans?

17 was actually worse than ever 2K that came after it when it comes to team defense. It was the on ball d that was just ridiculous. You’d have trouble beating Shaq off the bounce with Allen Iverson in that game. Probably one of the worst 2K’s in the series IMO.

You could argue that it was a good play. Harris got stuck. Duncan was fast enough before Claxton realized he was alone in the paint (back was turned)— Claxton also has a 76 Help Defense IQ rating. You can’t be perfect all the time, this happens in the real NBA too. Players will make mistakes.

I’m a Nets fan: perfect example against the Magic, Blake pass faked towards the corner. Wendell Carter literally left the paint to run to the perimeter. Easy dunk for Griffin.

I am by no means defending the feeble help defense in this game. I am just saying that sometimes we forget that nobody is perfect and the CPU playing this way should emulate that.

You should try running this play again, similar situation, with a Center who has a higher Help Defense IQ. If he actually drops back to defend him, then maybe it’s a rating gaff.

This play proves nothing for me. A back screen does work once in awhile.

I agree help defence is flat out bad in this game but this isn’t evidence to support it imo.

yeah, this was not a good example. there was nobody on the weakside that couldve been the main helper there. and it was a backdoor screen which can be effective if played correctly. sure, claxton couldve maybe bumped the cutter there, but this has nothing to do with bad help d.

It’s sad that defense started great and then devolved to where consensus is now that it’s bad.

I guess the good news is it being better than 2K21 defense still. How much is more of a debate.

I just want to be able to tell my defenders exactly what to do so they don't leave or rotate off of player X.

And I'd like to be able to change my settings and it actually sticks all game without me having to change it all the time.

I'd really like to see an effective drop defense so we could see more snaking and putting the defender in jail.

This is my pet peeve... I'd like to see some development on Dribble Handoff and settings to defend it. Been calling for years. Currently it's sightly ok.

If you mess with the movement sliders, it helps a lot with defense, especially PNR defense.

User ‘With Ball’ sliders all on 50
User ‘Without Ball’ on 40

CPU ‘With Ball’ on 50 (have mine on 70 right now for difficulty purposes)
CPU ‘Without Ball’ on 70

You can mess with other stuff like User Pass Accuracy and CPU Playing The Passing Lane. Makes a big difference.

I really wish I could change online sliders. I'm sure if they ever revealed them, there would be a **** storm in this community. But they stick to the same PR line year in and year out. I don't blame them either. Everytime they reveal something the Twitter world or maybe I should say the my player/comp people lose their ****.

I was playing next gen this weekend for the first time. Felt different. But at the end of the day. I had a great game with my family members and it was fun. No one was a crazy dribble head.

From the update today:

Defensive positioning logic improvements have been made to help CPU screen defenders guard the pick and roll more effectively

Added new “Cutter Help” defense that enables help defenders to recognize an off-ball cut to the basket and position themselves to guard it. This can be disabled with the Drive Help setting in the defensive settings menu

Agreed. I abused pnr all game to stress test and no changes, still score everytime. Why explicitly list it in the patch notes if there is no change?

I feel like the pnr is better. Now I don’t usually call it manually and I don’t stress test it but I could not score on it every time.
