I'd say tweak the sliders to your liking. Start off with a good set from the sliders forum then tweak them to the way you like to play the game. Whether you play to have fun or play for a sim, just tweak and tweak the sliders until you like them.

Re: The College Hoops 2K8 esoteric information thread (learn and discuss the arcane)
does anybody else have an issue with using custom plays? i had no problem for most of my season, and then using my playbook with 4-5 custom plays was causing every game i played to freeze within 1-2 minutes. so i thought maybe the playbook file was corrupted, deleted it and created a new playbook with 2 custom plays. played one game with that and then the next game i'm having the same freezing issue. its killing my legacy for me as i recruited a small team with a SF playing PF and i had plays created to utilize that. does anybody have any suggestions? i may just have to start a new legacy (need to start one with this years rosters anyways) and use a more traditional style of play, which i have done before and greatly enjoyed. but i loved using my custom plays throughout that season (only have one game of the regular season left) especially the 2-3 zone buster i made. oh well.Comment

I don't know about custom plays (never tried creating any), but custom playbooks work really well in dynasty mode. I created several for use in dynasty mode based on advice from this very thread.
I also play "small ball". I have 3 guards (tall SG at SF), a SF at PF and a quick tall PF playing C. My custom playbook has a lot of perimeter plays to utilize my outside shooters.Once upon a time, I had a lovely signature. Then it died. The end.Comment

Re: The College Hoops 2K8 esoteric information thread (learn and discuss the arcane)
The one thing I love about this game and legacy mode is that the big name programs don't dominate and can have down seasons. Just last year deep in my legacy UNC missed the NCAAs, and I've seen Duke and UCLA among others have down years as well. Even though they're usually rated 90+ the team unity can be low and that can lead to them struggling, which I think replicates what you see happen in real life sometimes.
Also seeing mid major teams who have veterans and put together strong seasons is a plus as well. Just great the variety of experiences you can have in legacy, and the fact that it's practically impossible to see a dynasty from the user or CPU.Comment

Does someone have a roster file with ALL of the historic teams named? I don't care if the roster has players updated for this current season or not. I just want to use '82 UNC and '87 IU etc.Comment

I know that Playmakers Alumni rosters are up on 2Kshare. I downloaded it the other day, haven't got a chance to look through it, but from what I've read, its pretty awesome.Comment

Sorry if this was discussed, but do I get bonus recruiting points for watching ABL games or do I have to actually play the games?Comment

One thing about the game that is not in the manual is that you can aim where your pass will go when you pass to a player. When you pass and aim the left analog stick a certain direction, the ball will be passed there. That is why the skip passes will be caught out of bounds sometimes. You can definitely use this to your advantage to try to squeeze some passes into tough spots.
Not sure if everyone already knows that or not but I thought I'd throw that out thereLast edited by VandyRedskins21; 03-27-2020, 03:05 PM.“If you’re true to yourself, you’re going to be true to everyone else.”Comment

Re: The College Hoops 2K8 esoteric information thread (learn and discuss the arcane)
i didn't want to put this in a recruiting thread, but i have been thinking lately of a new style team i'd like to recruit (haven't tried it yet). i know a lot of people like to recruit tall SFs to play PF, but what about recruiting short, good shooting PFs to play SF and even SG. there are a few plays in this game to post up SG and SF, and they would dominate. with a great ball handling PG you could run pick n rolls, and pick n pops with them, as well as posting up 4 out of 5 positions. i think this would be an awesome offense, and the team rebounding would be incredible.
has anyone tried something like this?Comment

In my legacy with Brown, I try to recruit power forwards who are more skilled oriented (I run a princeton offense) and usually those kind of players are usually fair shooters.“If you’re true to yourself, you’re going to be true to everyone else.”Comment

Re: The College Hoops 2K8 esoteric information thread (learn and discuss the arcane)
First off, some background info: I haven't really played this game much after the first few months it came out, but I popped it in about a month ago after being a little unsatisfied with Association Mode in 2K12 and something about it really clicked. I'm doing a closed legacy with Texas State and after simming the first season to get some recruits, I've ended up with a team that I really enjoy and I'm all but certain to land a 4 star center after this year.
Basically I've gotten a little attached to my team and I think I'd have more fun absolutely dominating with a small conference team than I would taking over a bad mid major. At the same time, I'd really like to end up coaching a big time program. My question is whether I can still get hired at a school like Louisville directly out of Texas State if I stick around for a few years?Comment

Re: The College Hoops 2K8 esoteric information thread (learn and discuss the arcane)
Another question: how exactly does player development work in this? I noticed that it has development drills like in the NBA series, but instead of being hilariously overpowered they don't seem to do much of anything at all. Say I have a freshman PF and PG and I want to develop their midrange and ball handling skills respectively. What would be the best way of doing that?
So basically it'd take about as long as it would if I were to jump to a mid major? In that case I'll work on turning Texas State into a Southland powerhouse.Comment
