Re: Official NBA Offseason/Player Movement Thread
You also said they were a worse team with these signings. 8th seed in the EASt this year so getting worse puts them in the lottery.
I am with you that I don't totally understand the signings. Personally I think getting young and someone who can score is a good thing, but on the other hand if Joe signs these 2 and that is it for the offseason they are screwed. As a fan I just hope there is more in store than these 2 movesComment

Re: Official NBA Offseason/Player Movement Thread
And who said they were a lottery team? Reply to what I said. If they sign those players they won't make the Finals for the next 4 years. You want to bet names on it?SMH. DET has screwed themselves for the next 4 years. They won't be competing for jack ish.
Yet you're going to say nobody has a chance as long as LBJ is in the East? Were you being serious about that?#RespectTheCultureComment

Not even close. The gap between the top three teams in the east and the fourth and fifth best are so far apart that it's not even funny.Comment

Re: Official NBA Offseason/Player Movement Thread
Can't compete for nothing if you're not in the playoffs.
No. I said(speaking from a Detroit perspective and trying to be realistic)as long as Lebron is playing in the East, they(Detroit)won't be in the Finals. Me personally, I'm not one to write off teams so early for their FA signings without seeing results(IE saying Detroit won't be competing for nothing for possibly signing these two players without seeing how it turns out on the court for a while)
Anyone in the damn East can make the playoffs. The playing field out there has evened out after the ORL's CLE's and BOS'Comment

Miami or Atlanta. Both teams have some intriguing young players, and the Heat will have the money to spend in free agency next year. As long as the Heat retain Wade, they have to be considered a contender in the East.#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: Official NBA Offseason/Player Movement Thread
That's not what I meant. I meant they could count themselves out of the title hunt for the next 4 years.
If you're not competing for a championship, then you ain't competing for "jack ish" as you say lol.#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: Official NBA Offseason/Player Movement Thread
You can't actually sign anyone until the 5th I believe. Many players probably have verbal commitments or contracts mostly worked out, but nothing will be official until then. Last night was just the start of the negotiation period.Send your Midnight Release weirdo pics/videos to my new website: http://www.peopleofmidnightreleases.com!Comment

Re: Official NBA Offseason/Player Movement Thread
Well....it looks like the Raptors have given up on Hedo. Here's one toronto article (the other's just echo the samething). Basically, the Raps want to resign Marion (at a reasonable price), sign Kleiza (who I'm a fan of) and bring back Carlos Delfino and then use the remaining money from there mid level exception (after signing Kleiza with part of it) to sign a veteran back up point.
PS: They also showed some interest as well in Charlie V, but he and BG are most likely going to Dtown.
EDIT: NNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!! I jinxed it. Raps preparing a $60 mil/5 year contract for Hedo ??

Before this season I think Orlando was viewed as the 3rd best team in the East, but not even close to Boston or Cleveland and you saw how that ended up.Comment

Re: Official NBA Offseason/Player Movement Thread
From the Nets Are Scorching blog, just a thought that has been talked about on there:
I have been encouraging you guys to e-mail in questions/comments (well written of course) if you wanted to see them posted here. As of right now, I am posting them as I get them, but if more of you e-mail stuff in, this could be a weekly thing. Its up to you guys. Anyway here is something from reader Sam S:
Trade idea from loyal netsarescortching reader (Sebastian - his words not mine) Sam S.
Boozer opted not to opt out for the coming year - so he has a one year $12.7mm contract. Bobby Simmons has a one year $11.24mm contract. A straight up trade works for economic purposes (salaries are wthin 25% of each other) and saves Utah $3mm ($1.5mm x 2 due to luxury tax). Boozer also is a toxic presence for Utah since he does not want to be there and they want to keep Milsap. For us, he is a huge upgrade at the 4 and we would presumably have an inside track at resigning him in 2010 if he proves that he is worth a big contract. While it would hurt our 2010 draft tanking strategy, it would show the fans that the team really wants to put the best team on the floor.. What do you think?
OK, before I answer this question I feel like I have to disclose the fact that I am not a big Boozer fan. On paper this works and makes sense, it gives the Jazz a little more cap space and they get to feature Milsap more. For the Nets, getting Boozer fills a gaping hole, and getting rid of Simmons clears up some some space at the SF position (since we do have a ton of players in that spot now). Carlos Boozer is a great player and his game fits our new style perfectly.
As for why I dont like it, well acquiring Boozer hurts the development of Yi. I know I am in the minority, but I still think Yi can be a solid player for the Nets, but he just needs time. I am also not a big fan of his attitude, he is a selfish player (I formed this opinion through his previous actions regarding his contract) who seems to cause problems in the locker room. With a real young team, I dont want someone like that in the locker room. Boozer is also very injury prone, and I dont want to get stuck with paying his contract as he sits on the sidelines in a suit. Now if this deal happens, I wont jump off the bridge because it would be a solid trade for us, but I wouldnt be too excited about it.Last edited by ProfessaPackMan; 07-01-2009, 04:10 PM.#RespectTheCultureComment

The Raptors are preparing an offer of five years and $60 million for Hedo Turkoglu, according to the Oregonian
However, in order for Toronto to clear enough money to sign Turkoglu to the five-year, $60 million deal, it would have to renounce the contracts of Shawn Marion, Anthony Parker, Carlos Delfino, Patrick O'Bryant and Quincy Douby. The team is leery of taking that path, having that same tactic backfire last season when it created room for the arrival of Jermaine O'Neal.Comment
