Re: Official NBA Offseason/Player Movement Thread
Where do you guys see Kidd ending up? With DAL or as a ring chaser with CLE/BOS? I doubt he ends up with LA, NY or POR. IMO it's between DAL and CLE/BOS.
The Mavericks want to re-sign Jason Kidd, but several teams are expected to make a play for the point guard.
Free agency officially opens on Wednesday, and the Cavaliers, Trail Blazers, Celtics, Knicks, and possibly even the Lakers are expected to show interest.
New York can only offer the mid-level exception, worth between $5 and $6 million, while Portland is the only one of the aforementioned clubs with sizable cap room.
Dallas has maintained that re-signing Kidd is a priority.Comment

Re: Official NBA Offseason/Player Movement Thread
New York is completely out, and I'd assume Portland probably is too. Neither of those are contenders and the Knicks won't even make the playoffs. Boston has little need for him unless Rondo really does leave.
For the Lakers, I think it depends what Ariza's options are. If someone is willing to heavily overpay him (which I think will likely happen), I could see them resigning Odom and using the MLE on Kidd. At this point, I'd put them as the third most likely team aside from the Mavs and Cleveland.Comment

He's made 136 million from basketball alone (not including endorsements). I wouldn't be shocked if he stayed in Dallas, but I also wouldn't be shocked if he went to Cleveland or LA.

Especially on the Lakers part. They are assuming Lakers would only keep Odom or Ariza for Kidd to go to LAComment

Re: Official NBA Offseason/Player Movement Thread
Detroit, Oklahoma City, Atlanta, Toronto, and Memphis can basically do anything they want.
Charlotte, Golden State, Indiana, the Clippers, New Jersey, and Sacramento have options and can sign a big time contract.
I still don't think Portland's cap situation is as great as everyone seems to think since they have to resign their entire team in 2011 and 2012. Roy and Aldridge will go from rookie scale to max contracts, and we all know damn well that if Portland doesn't offer Odom 10-12 million a year, someone else will. Fernandez and Outlaw won't be 10 million plus each, but they're definitely going from 5 million total to about 15-18 total.
This year, 5 of their top 6 players (excluding Steve Blake) will be paid 20.2 million. That number will probably go up to at least 60-70 million between them in 3 years if they resign them all. The only real flexibility they have is very short term (a 2-3 year contract.Comment

Ryan Anderson, as well. Rumors are Orlando's talking to Brandon Bass, whose game I really like. Johnson, JJ, Pietrus, Anderson and Bass wouldn't be the worst bench in the world. Could definitely use some improvement at the PG and SG.Comment
