Yep, Chris Brossard called it a week ago, he may simply retire

Iverson Still Wants To Be A Starter

    Jul 05, 2009 9:35 AM EST

Allen Iverson could be asked to come off the bench by a potential suitor, but he doesn't appear willing to do so.

Iverson, an unrestricted free agent and former MVP, hasn't been mentioned very often in rumors.

He told the Detroit Free Press that he was letting agent Leon Rose field all the inquiries.

When asked by the Free Press what he would do if his new team asked him to come off the bench, Iverson hesitated.

"I don't know. I think I would retire," the guard said.

The only reason there's no suitor is because of Iverson

All dude would have to do is be a team player for once and he would be a starter on a good team. Don't dribble off 18 seconds of the shot clock and run a set offense. Actually give a flying **** about defense. That's all he has to do, but he won't do it.

Instead, he'd rather retire while his laundry washers aka former fake Sixers fans tell everyone they are wrong for treating po' wittle Allen this way.

Miami Heat has contacted Iverson and Artest, insiders say

Pat Riley contacted Allen Iverson and Ron Artest, who is reportedly headed to the Lakers, for exploratory talks after saying he didn't plan any major moves this summer.

            <!-- begin /production/story/credit_line_format.comp -->[email protected]

<!-- end /production/story/credit_line_format.comp -->Amid a cost-conscious approach to improving the roster this summer, the Heat's attempts to upgrade through free agency apparently aren't being discounted.
Allen Iverson and Ron Artest were among a group of free agents who have been contacted by Heat president Pat Riley in the opening days of free agency negotiations, league sources said Thursday.
Iverson, a former league MVP who has averaged 27.1 points over 13 seasons, might be willing to accept an offer of one or two seasons in what is expected to be a tight market. He turned 34 last month and is coming off a rocky season in Detroit that ended with complaints about his role. He left the team before the playoffs to treat a back injury.
Although discussions with agent Leon Rose are believed to be in the initial stages, the Heat would likely be interested only if Iverson is willing to accept less than the full midlevel amount. Miami could also offer the $2 million veteran's exception.
Iverson has maintained a low profile since he left the Pistons. But he could address his future by next week in advance of his annual kids camp in Virginia.
With Artest apparently off the board, the Heat could shift its recruiting efforts to other top free agents or players who could be available through trades this summer.
The Heat has long had interest in Iverson and Artest.
Miami was among the teams that inquired about Iverson when he was traded from Philadelphia to Denver three years ago, and from the Nuggets to Detroit at the start of last season.
Artest has been a Heat target at least since his time in Sacramento, where he spent three seasons before he was traded to the Rockets last year.
Whereas Artest appeared to have numerous suitors, including the Lakers, Cleveland, Houston and Orlando, Iverson's options are reportedly more limited. Charlotte, coached by Larry Brown, has been the only other team mentioned in connection with Iverson. Brown coached Iverson in Philadelphia, where the two led the Sixers to the 2001 NBA Finals.
The Heat is looking into numerous sign-and-trade options as well as additions through the free-agency market in an attempt to get more perimeter scoring around Wade, who had the best statistical season of his career last year. He led the league in scoring at 30.2 points per game and was third in MVP voting.
But Miami was eliminated by Atlanta in the first round of the playoffs after Wade didn't get enough help from a roster that relied heavily on young players Michael Beasley, Mario Chalmers and Daequan Cook. Immediately after the season, Riley talked about addressing the team's lack of offensive punch in the playoffs.
But he also cautioned that improvements might have to come from within because of the team's luxury-tax situation and desire to ''protect our [salary] room'' for 2010.

                      Amen.

It would be great to see him change. The problem is that no one can tell AI what to do. The guy is gonna do whatever. He needs a coach who will call him out. I know I'll get **** for this, but I'd like to see AI on the Spurs. I know SA fans wouldn't be I would. He should learn from guys like non-franchise. No one can be a superstar forever.

AI is the perfect case of can't teach an old dog new tricks. If he would join the Shaq/Sheed bandwagon and hop on a championship caliber team as a 6th man he'd be awesome. Never gonna happen though. I'd love him on the C's if he could but it's just impossible.

This is why I wouldn't mind AI getting the bi-annual to come to CLE if we could swing it. His personality is strong, but we already have two Alphas that he would be incapable of brow beating into mental submission. He couldn't take over this locker room, and I think personality would fit in with Mo the ****talking wannabe gangsta, and Delonte the class clown with anger problems. AI could be himself here without worrying about ruffling the feathers of uptight types.

In a best case, he and Delonte become even tighter, and with similar builds and tools (quicks, long arms and big hands) they could improve each others game...Ivey could help Delonte be more consistently aggressive on offense (the thought of Delonte playing like he did in the 4th quarter of Game 6 v the Magic ALL THE TIME, makes me giddy) and AI could possibly pick up some defensive tendacies from West. Delonte would be the prototype PG to pair with the Answer...great defender who can pick up the two, and can play on or off the ball. That would also make Mo our Jason Terry and with Andy and Z, make a formidable bench.

Now before you fall out of your chair with laughter (old dog new trick, I know) realize that Iverson *could* possibly absorb something from a good friend who he knows respects him to death, and for Ivy, getting decent enough to not be a liability is good enough. In this environment, AI will get cracked on relentlessly if he constantly gets blown by...peer pressure...and I think AI is too Alpha to lay down for that.

AI in CLE is just crazy enough to work, and at his worst he's more valuable than a steadily regressing Boobie Gibson at this point. 3 of his top 4 FG% years were the three in DEN, and he also avgd about 7 assists. 18 pts and say 4 dimes from Ivy at about 45% shooting and at least pesky pick and roll D...and he would be a tremendous fit, and join Shaq as vets who desperately want to win.

The biggest obstacles would be getting Mo to come off the bench, and getting AI to sign to a team where he felt he would look like a ring chaser.

Dude I know what you're saying and it makes sense... and AI is definitely better than Mo, but I think the last thing you need is ANOTHER undersized SG. It's an unnecessary gamble. You guys pick up someone serviceable like Anthony Parker and you're contending for the title, easily.
