^^You totally answered the question lol^^

You also answered the reason why so many people would take Gasol. Ask this season question 4-5 years ago. Dirk would probably win in a land slide.

4-5 seasons ago? lmbo that's a given man.

Anyway I wasn't trying to convince anyone that Gasol is the right answer but all of the points people brought up about why they would choose Dirk wasn't that compelling.

      Oh well

I think the thing a lot of people are saying you can't really compare these guys too each. Wether one plays outside and the other inside. If one is a role/sidekick and the other is a legit superstar. Its a up and down thing.

If you needed 2 points to win a game. Who would you to Gasol or Kobe?
Where as in Dallas...You know who would get the ball.

Re: who would you rather have, Dirk or Pau?

That's the thing though, and was said back in the thread.

Dirk isn't enough to get you a title anymore as a Batman, he's now a sidekick himself. Obviously Pau has never been enough to get a title, but that's not the discussion.

So basically we're comparing two 2nd options, two sidekicks. Now I've already conceded that Dirk is much more of a Batman than Pau is, but if I have a star wing player, give me the guy who can create on the inside and rebound and play defense. And it's not like we're comparing Dirk with a guy like Noah or something, Pau is right there with Dirk even though Dirk to the eye is superior.

That's all I'm saying. I know we've gone over all of this over and over but hell why not say it again lol.

Na I really stop looking at this way back. Sorry if I have you repeating stuff lol (My bad). Some of these thread people just don't see the obvious. So I just don't enter anymore lol

But it also refreshing to see you say he is superior. But the one thing I don't get is how is Dirk a sidekick now?....Did Dallas re-sign Steve Nash? lol Na jk. But I return to my question before. If Dallas needs 2 points. Who you think is getting the ball?...maybe Caron Butler or Jason Terry. I don't know how you see Dirk as a sidekick right now.

Re: who would you rather have, Dirk or Pau?

One thing about Dirk that people overlook is his efficiency. Everyone knows he is the go to guy for the Mavs, but it's rare that a go to guy with such a usage rate is as efficient as Nowitzki. Dallas turned the ball over less often than all but two teams in the league, and that starts with Dirk.

(from twomangame.com) "Nowitzki's combination of high usage rate (28.8%) and low turnover rate (7.8%) are startling, even when cast against the league's other elite players. Comb through the history books, and in only 8 instances in history has a player (with an 800-minutes played prerequisite) posted a turnover rate lower than 8% and a usage rate higher than 28% over the course of a season. Three of those instances belong to Dirk. This is a special place in the league pantheon that Nowitzki inhabits."

                He's definitely Batman in Dallas.

I'm referring to his elite status. Is he good enough to take that Dallas roster to a ring as Batman? I would say no.

We will see though, as I said before, this year Dallas has really no excuses not to make it out of the first round. I don't want to hear anymore about how great Dirk is still if he can't get out of the first. He has an adequate squad around him this season. Everyone is used to each other, they have depth.

                No excuses this time.

Re: who would you rather have, Dirk or Pau?

I can totally understand that. If they can get knocked out the first round. He still would be elite status in my eyes. he still would be a top 10 player in my eyes.

But again I could see why you wouldn't consider him elite anymore.

Re: who would you rather have, Dirk or Pau?

I still consider him top 10 or right near it. So it's just to what degree I find him elite lol.

But I still respect the hell out of his game, I think it would be really intriguing to see you guys counter point what Born said earlier.

It's not like I would pick a million PF's over Dirk either. The only PF's I would have a tough time deciding if I would take before Dirk are Amare/Bosh... Boozer is like meh right below Dirk to me. KG and Duncan are a bit too old for me these days.

Dirk has accomplished a lot as a Batman, actually. Did his team win a title? We all know the answer is no, but lets not pretend that making it to the finals is garbage and means nothing. When Dallas went to the finals in 2006, they had to go through San Antonio to get there and Dirk was nothing short of amazing. There have been plenty of times where Dirk has performed amazingly in big games.

People are very selective at what they find flaw with and how they assign value to it.

There are times when his team doesnt pull through even though he performs and as a result, he takes the hit. I dont need to look at your posts. I can tell you specifically that I was responding to this constant emphasis of the Warriors series and so on.

OK. I wasn't referring to the past. Not at all. I'm talking about right now.

That's why I made it a point to say this year his team is adequate, he has depth and talent everywhere, everyone is familiar with one another now, so he should get out of the first round at the very least.

All I was saying was that this is not the Dirk who led his team to the Finals. Not that he's dropped off significantly, he's just not at that level.

Youre probably right about being 5 years older now, although, Dirk's game is greatly reliant on skill and not as much athleticism.

Its kind of interesting though in that you could argue teams are better in the west now, although Im sure there are some who would dispute that. But its possible to some degree that certain teams have sort of emerged. Its kind of interesting to wonder about whether, say, last years or this years Thunder are/were better than that 06 Mavs team. In a certain sense it may not be Dirk being older as much as its other moving pieces.

As an individual player, Dirk is still pretty awesome though...at least based on last year.

I guess the trick is weighing his skill/performance as an individual player against his ability to affect team success. Its possible he is virtually the same skill-wise but cant affect success as easily because of external factors, which are beyond his control.

First things first, Gasol looked really good last night. I know it's early in the season and he's not going to get 30 a night, but for the first game of the season, he just looked...GOOD. The Lakers play so well together, it's scary. I may be changing my opinion in this argument depending on how the next few months go.

That being said, the Horace Grant stuff was purely out of boredom. I just wanted to talk b-ball and didn't have anything else to say. I know it was dumb. I know there was no comparison. I was drawing at straws.
