      Re: 2014 Draft Discussion

It's definitely a tough decision for Cleveland. I would be fine with them taking Embiid but those back issues are a huge deal. I still think Parker is the safest pick but with the superstar potential Wiggins has I still say you gotta take him. I would be a little surprised if they don't take Wiggins. If they do in fact pick Wiggins I believe they'll have to deal Waiters.

Either way the draft should be very interesting. It's going to be fun seeing how the top 3 players pan out.

It's so interesting reading these guys thoughts. Some time they completely conflict one another.

No offense bc I know your a Kentucky fan, but I don't want Randle. I prefer Vonleh or Smart. Exum would be ideal but I think he will be long gone.

Randle can only go left and is a bit of a tweener. Smart or Vonleh for me too.

                  Randle isn't a tweener.

Coach K took Parker out of the game against Mercer late because he couldn't guard anybody. He is terrible defensively.

Well I don't think he'll have success bullying his defenders in the NBA like he did in college. Unless he develops a more refined offensive game, he's basically the same player as Jordan Hill. I'd take Vonleh over Randle because of his size and potential on both sides of the floor.

That doesn't make him a tweener though. Randle is more skilled than you guys are giving him credit for.

I don't disagree with saying Vonleh would be a better pick, because like you said he has a boatload of potential. He's a project though. Randle will step into a team and give you 12-10 every night.

Ok, dismissing the fact that I said he's a tweener (which wasn't the correct term, I just meant that he won't be able to use brute strength to have his way with defenders in the NBA) the other things I said about him are true. If he were to average 12 it would mostly be from putbacks. Not saying he can't be a solid offensive player, but it will be a pretty big transition for him from college to the NBA.

I think he'll be better offensively than he was at Kentucky. At Kentucky he constantly dealt with double and triple teams every night. That isn't going to happen in the NBA. He has a decent shot as well (I know he really didn't show it at Kentucky). The spacing will be much better in the NBA for him unlike at Kentucky where they packed in the paint since UK didn't have any knockdown shooters (Young & Harrison's were disappointing). I expect him to average 12-15 points a game his rookie year, depending on playing time and average around a double double.

I'm hoping he goes to the Celtics personally. I think playing with Rondo every night would help him.

I do think Randle has lots of improvements to make offensively, and I've made my opinions about that all throughout the season in this thread..

But I do think he's the most NBA ready player physically. I think he's a great fit for the Lakers. He'll be a rebound machine, probably average a double-double, and with LAL already having Kobe and being big market for other big time players his scoring isn't something that will have to be a focal point anyways..

I think a team that doesn't need to rely on him scoring is the best situation for him individually and for the team as far as him fitting in immediately.. Therefor I really like him going to LAL, been saying that for awhile.

But the Celtics would log jammed at the PF spot. They already have Sully and Olynyk (who despite being 7'0, I don't think he can be a starting center), so I don't think Randle would be an ideal pick. Vonleh, on the other hand, could possibly be a small ball center. I think it would have been perfect for the Celtics if Cauley-Stein declared, so they could have taken him with their second first rounder, and with the 6th pick they could take whoever (maybe Smart or Gordon).

I agree with what da Throne was saying, very interesting to read their thoughts. These two stand out to me...

                                On Embiid...

Scout 2:*If he’s healthy and I have a pair of balls I take him no. 1. He has legitimate size. Great hands and feet. He will block shots immediately. He doesn’t understand positioning yet, but he is further along offensively than Olajuwon was at the same stage, and he’s bigger than Hakeem. Hakeem was 6-foot-9. Embiid is 7 feet, maybe bigger, eventually. He has the best upside pick of anyone in the draft.
                                On Wiggins...

Scout 1:*Don’t trust his shot or his ball skills. Can’t go left. There is no “f you” to him. Kobe’s like, “F you, I’m better than you.” Where was that? I think he is a content player. That’s not Bill Self’s fault —*he didn’t tell him not to shoot.
