Re: 2019 Offseason Thread
So asking anyone who knows more about this than I do..
Julius Randle was singed to a 2 year deal with New Orleans using the MLE, though his 2nd year is a player option. In doing that are they agreeing to use their MLE on him in both off-seasons? Or is it just a regular 2 year deal but they were able to sign him under the MLE for the first year?

Re: 2019 Offseason Thread
The nets situation is odd to me yes KI is better than Russell but he is not that much better and he is like 4 years older. Would it make the team better maybe but they would just be slightly better not that much better. Its not going to really help them take another step. If nets do it I am down to Russell going back to the lakers if they can.Comment

Re: 2019 Offseason Thread
Former Cavs player Damon Jones says he has "earth breaking news" he will announce on "Get Up" Monday at 8 AM EST.
And it likely has to do with the Lakers cause he says "If this next move gets pulled off we talking about a MEGA SUPER TEAM!!"
That means it's gotta be Kawhi or Kyrie, right?

PerkGOD saying something similar too. Since it's 2 former Cavs players makes me think it'd be Kyrie but sounds like he's BK bound.

Re: 2019 Offseason Thread
He has a player option that he will surely decline. And he technically signed a 2 year 18 mil deal..
But for the Pelicans it says he was signed for this past season using their MLE..
The reason I was asking about it is because I had no idea you could sign for the MLE if it wasn’t a 1 year deal.. I don’t know if that means you lose your MLE for the following seasons.. because if not you could technically sign a player 3 years at about 30 mil using your MLE for the first season, and then turn around and do it again the flowing season and have two guys making 10 mil a piece on your roster even though you are over the cap.. unless you hit the luxury tax line, in that case the 2nd player would only make about 5 mil.
3 years at 30 mil, or even 4 years at 40 mil sounds a lot better in attracting another player to team with Bron, AD, and possibly Kemba or whoever than just one year at 9.whatever. After resigning Davis next year they would likely be in the tax, but that would still qualify for tax payer MLE with is 5. something. Wouldn’t net them a great player but it’s in the range of what guys like Lance, Pat Beverly, Mike Scott, Buddy Hield, Hood, Nene, etc played under this past season.
Basically the Lakers can get over the cap this season but not to the luxury tax because in order to fill out their roster with cap room they will have to renounce the bird rights to KCP, Muscala, Bullock. Meaning this season they should get the full MLE (a deal like Randle signed) and the bi-annual exception (a deal like Brook Lopez signed with Milwaukee) sign both of those players to multiple year deals so they are on the team next season, and then they can use the tax player MLE to get a 3rd solid player.. if I’m understanding all of that correctly.

I already know if it’s Kyrie watching them run pick and rolls only for him to take 2,3,4 extra dribbles and not get the ball to Davis until he’s no longer open is going to drive me insane...

2019 Offseason Thread
It’s tough to tell if what Damon Jones is talking about has anything at all to do with the Lakers though. I’m guessing it doesn’t.

Re: 2019 Offseason Thread
While I prefer Lakers to spend cap on depth rather than form a big 3, starting PG FA options are limited. There are backup PGs but as far as starters it is limited. Outside of Kyrie and Kemba, there 3 options from the FA list. Collison, Beverly, Bledsoe. I don't see Bledsoe returning to Bucks mainly because of all the other pressing needs they have. He is youngest of bunch. But worst shooter of bunch. I still prefer Bev. He will give you the least amount of points, but he will play his role. He is a scrappy versatile defender who has shot at least 38% 3pt last 4 seasons. I don't think he will return to Clippers but not sure if he wants to go to Lakers.
Main reason I think they should go depth over star is that I feel there will be load management with Bron and I doubt AD is playing 80+ games. There weren't issues with Raptors with Kawhi not playing 22 games because their team was talented and deep enough to win games without him. So Lakers should try to get a balanced roster instead of a top heavy. When you don't have depth, your stars has to play more minutes and at least one has to be on floor at all times.Comment
