He’s a long ways away from being a “big 4”, and the Lakers don’t even need him to be. They just need consistency. We already know he can blow past his man and finish when better defenders were on James and Ingram, we know he runs the floor well with LeBron and finishes strong, and we know he is going to get a lot of open 3’s and he’s confident in taking them..

They just need him hitting them at a decent rate, whether he has 5 points or 25 points, and not blowing all of his defensive rotations if they are still going to run a switch-heavy style of defense.

He’ll have plenty of opportunities, especially if they go the 3rd star route and Kuzma isn’t targeted by defenses. But what they need from him is still coming up big when he’s not getting those opportunities, because most nights he’ll be pretty low on the pecking order. They need a Tobias Harris - like game from him, Shard Lewis with Orlando even.

I think he could be a all star not superstar but all star but I also think the world superstar is way over used has I would say there are only like maybe 8 guys in the nba that I would call a superstar and you bring up Tobias Harris he is like all star level player. About Tobias has there been any reports about him going back to the 76ers or what? Also even if Kuzma doesn't become like a all star player like you said if he just hits the 3 more often and starts to play some defense that would help a lot. If lakers get a 3erd all star I think they are in good shape to compete next year and if Kuzma improves by a solid amount next year on top of it than I think they have a great shoot at winning the championship.

Kemba isn't a good enough shooter? Over the last 4 seasons he's shot 41.3% on spot up 3's.

They don't need Kuz to be a superstar. They need him to just play his role and be consistent. They need him to a 38%+ 3pt shooter. He went from 36% to 30% in year 2. With AD and Bron, his touches are going to go down. So he needs to be efficient and selfless to turn down bad shots. He needs to be one of those shoot, fake and drive, and pass guys. First option is to shoot, if they close out too hard, fake and look to shoot mid range or drive to score, or pass.

As far as Tobias, we haven't heard much at all. All I heard is either resigning or rumblings about BKN. I think he is going to be the second wave of signings. He fits better than Jimmy Buckets did with 76ers. I know he wants to look for long term contract and loyalty.

If not, I think I might actually prefer to spread that money to Beverly, Redick, and DeAndre if doing that is possible. Maybe switch Brogdon in there if one of those other guys were willing to sign for the low.

I want no part of Jimmy Buckets and much prefer DLo over Kemba.
You might as well just sign a guy like Kemba in this case because Brogdon would probably take up almost all of the Lakers' cap space anyways. I think it takes roughly $20 million per year to get Milwaukee to consider letting him walk.

I think Bev/Collison are probably both in the $8-10 million range; they're candidates to get the full MLE from teams IMO.

My first thoughts on the trade was that I liked it from the lakers side as they clearly wasn't going to get a true star without the trade. Then it came out about all the pick swaps, lack of protections and the date costing them 10 million. I understand the move you don't overpay for AD when your bidding against yourself and that's what they did.

So when did we go from the lakers assets or trash till it becoming some kind of massive haul of epic proportions ?

This is the LeBron media train at work. Plant the seeds early that this isn’t clearly a juggernaut superteam in the works so that when the Lakers inevitably win the title next season we can tell the story of how great LeBron is by overcoming the “depth issues” of this team. We can still hedge our bets though that if somehow they don’t come out of the west we can once again fall back on the tried and true LeBron needs more help because they gave up too much to get Anthony Davis narrative. Rinse and repeat with this dude.

picks and swaps are a huge part of that, but also a lot of the trash stuff came from people wanting the Pelicans to take their assets to get AD as well.

Regardless of where he ends up I hope he does the smart thing and has a meeting with all the teams and at least hears their sales pitch. It made no sense for PG to just commit without even taking a meeting with another team.

Lakers really screwed themselves with the whole Deng ordeal. Should have packed him off with a pick or something to have a team take back his contract. As it stands now, just owing him 5 million keeps them from a max..

I kind of miss hearing the details of all the big free agent pitch meetings like we did in the early '10's..

I want to hear how Cuban hired the Russo's to produce a short film for Kyrie..

Clippers situation not looking all that great at the moment. Kyrie noise says it's Brooklyn with the only other rumors being the Lakers and Knicks. KD looks like it's NY or GS and he's out the whole season anyways. Kemba looks like he's staying put, only other strong rumors have been Lakers and Mavs. Jimmy is up in the air, but has had rumors of wanting to play with Kyrie for 2-3 years now. Kawhi won a championship and the odds of staying likely went up, his best Los Angeles move would obviously be to team with Bron and AD over Lou Williams and Gallinari, especially since they would also be in play for Bev or a similar player with their MLE. Bev has also expressed interest in Chicago and they still need a PG, so the idea of him still being in LAC seems like a long-shot to me.
