Put the Jazz in the same bracket as Portland and Denver and they very well could have made it to the WCF. The Rockets were a nightmare matchup for us due to our lack of offense, we just simply couldn't keep up. You'd think a guard averaging a very efficient 21 and 6 would help mitigate that, while also not losing anything defensively going from Rubio to him at the point.

Get some more shooters for the bench and that's a 55+ win squad if healthy.

I am a laker fan so not Thunder but I still love Adams one of my favorite players in the league who is not a star player.

I think most teams out West are going to go for it rather than dial it back.
lol I didn't say it was smart but yeah got to go for it now because come 2020-21 season GS may be back to there big 4 again of course we also dont known how good KD will even be once he does come back.

Beating a team 3 out of 4 in regular season means nothing. I never look at how teams did during the regular season if they match up in the playoffs because there are just to many factors. One team could have been really healthy and the other team could have been really injured when they played. One team could have been playing there best basketball of the season the other team there worst. One team could be playing there 4th game in 5 nights other team could have been off a few days etc and I dont really see any young guys on Jazz getting much better like I do with the Nuggets.

At the same time, though, the Jazz would arguably have 3 of the best 4 players in a series if they were to meet, 2 of those guys have been improving every single year in the league.

Is it really impossible for a guy like Gobert, who averaged a career-high 16 points a night, get up to 18 or 20 a game? The improved spacing will only help him in his rim-running, and of course we know how gifted he is defensively. Same goes for Mitchell; adding another guy in the backcourt who can work for his own shot and actually space the floor for him will only open things up in his game and help his efficiency on the offensive end.

Utah's ceiling will firmly be in the "I need to see it before I'll believe it" category next year, much like Denver was this year. Mitchell especially and Gobert to a lesser extent have a lot to prove in the playoffs. To me, both are good regular season guys who aren't really cut out for playoff basketball.

Mitchell is young, but his .389/.293/.829 playoff splits can't be ignored. Gobert is lumbering and susceptible to match up problems against a top team. Adding Conley, who is good but not great, doesn't move the needle that much for me. It's insanity to call them title contenders; they don't have a Top 15 player in the league. They can be a great regular season story, a Top 4 seed in the West, etc--again, much like Denver--but there's no way they're a title contender.

He’ll improve in the playoffs, I don’t doubt that. Look at Kemba in the regular season, for example, before his breakout year and those splits are almost identical. The Jazz having somebody else who can score the ball and will take ball handling duties away from him will benefit him.

That’s how I feel as well. It’s a good signing, but I’m surprised at the reaction to it. They’re definite WCF contenders, but idk about winning it all.

                      As of right now, yes.

Until we see what the Lakers put together, I think the Jazz are the best in the west this year.

Who else? The Rockets? Nah. The Blazers? Nah. The Nuggets? Maybe. But I'm giving the edge to the Jazz on that one.

Nurkic wouldn't have provided much more then Kanter did so realistically him not being there in the Denver series wasn't a huge deal, now had Kanter not stepped up and abused Denver on the boards at times then yes his absence would have been felt but that wasn't the case. I still don't see how it can be labeled as an upset unless you just go off seeding alone I suppose.
Nurkic literally does everything better than Kanter outside of offensive rebounding. Passing. Screen setting. Being a roll man. Contesting shots inside. Contesting shots outside. Pick n roll defense. Literally ANYTHING on defense. Defensive rebounding.

You name anything outside of offensive rebounding, and Nurkic has him beat. Nurkic's importance to this Blazers team should not be minimized. Dude was absolutely vital to their success last year before he went down.

As a Blazers fan, if you don't see the stark difference between having Nurkic on the floor (again, he's arguably more important to the team than McCollum is) vs having Kanter (who like you said got benched) then I have nothing left to say. Lol

So the Lakers and the Jazz struck first...maybe wait to see what other teams make in the draft and free agency before naming a favorite? Lol.

It's fun/easy to call the Lakers the favorites because it was a blockbuster trade...but now the dust is settling and they gotta get Kawhi or fill the depth out...while still waiting to see what everyone else does too.

Plus Klay is likely gonna be back next year, so if the Warriors can just get in the playoffs, they will still be a problem too.

I get that...just seems silly to name a favorite right now. Jazzman was just saying how Houston was a terrible matchup for them, so what if Houston met them in the WCF? Mike Conley takes them from losing 4-1 to winning the series? Seems a bit of a stretch to me.

I always make my pilgrimage back to OS for the annual "sauces" time of year.

Gotta love it. Same diehards posting away after all these years, still great reads from many of you guys. I get all caught up here on OS faster than reading anywhere else.

OS, Twitter, and reddit seems to scratch that itch perfectly.
