Re: 2023 Offseason Thread
I do think they got lucky that things went south. I didn't think there was a pivot point if it wasn't Harden. I think they would've waited until the offseason and hope they could do a S&T for Harden.
But this time around, there's no clear target like there was with Harden. Knowing Morey for the last 3 years, he won't be okay with a role player package, especially not for his adopted son Harden lol. Throughout the Houston tenure, Morey believed in the 2 star approach and building around them. I can see him trying to find a way to get someone like Lavine. But as I said before, I would take the Clippers deal. Get Mann, Powell, Batum, and Covington for Harden and Korkmaz. I still flip Harris for more depth since they are already tight with space and still have 5 spots to fill.Last edited by illwill10; 07-02-2023, 03:07 PM.Comment

Re: 2023 Offseason Thread
Man this off season has been great for the Suns, Pretty much got everything we are needing. The last thing I want is a big backup for Ayton. Maybe EG calls up Mason Plumlee and recruits him over to the Suns?Comment

Re: 2023 Offseason Thread
Rumors still going on about Siakam.
I wonder what the Raptors plans are after signing McDaniels.
You have 4 guys who can play SF. McDaniels can also play PF and Scottie would be the starting PF if Siakam leaves.
No way they're in on a Lillard trade with Siakam going the other way right? A PG is really the only position I'd deal Siakam for.Comment

By far my favorite signing is Jaxson Hayes. Especially at the money they got him (and Cam). Especially if he stays healthy. When the Pels went on that run then were beating the Suns in that series. I don't think people realize how effective Jaxson Hayes was in those few months. He caused so many problems for teams in transition.
Watch this little highlight. It's only 49 seconds. But you can tell this dude just runs for his size.
Locked up Devin Booker here
I could keep going on. The Lakers made calculated moves that actually fit around their current core of players.
Hayes and Reddish are the two nice signings because both are young enough with enough potential to possibly “break out”. It’s the same type of signing as Monk and Lonnie, although I expect Cam to rarely play and Hayes to be a really low minute reserve when AD is available.
As far as the other guys, I’m not really sure they got any/much better. Everyone on social media with the “let Rob cook” and saying this off-season was a “master-class” from Pelinka and all that.. but they basically just replaced Schroder with Gabe and Troy/Lonnie with Prince. That’s not a massive upgrade to me, they might not even be in the Conf finals without Dennis being able to guard guys like Steph.. and they still didn’t address getting a big man, or movement shooting. Not saying they did bad, I just don’t think it was the massive home-run Twitter is making it out to be.
I feel like Gabe starting on a finals team has some people overhyping this a bit compared to his actual production. And he’s not getting that type of usage backing up DLo, or even if he winds up starting.
Lakers at 13 guys. Appear to be targeting a big for the 14th spot and just rolling into the season with 14 guys. Using their exceptions hard-capped them under that first apron, so they’ll be able to be players in the buyout market should someone be available. Or be able to use that spot should one of the undrafted/2nd round guys play well like the Caruso/Reaves move.
One wrinkle in all of that is the Lakers are still like 7-8m under the hard cap, and they can offer Beasley or Lonnie more than a min deal. I would think that they’re exploring S&T options for either of them as it allows them to get more money from other teams that are over the cap and can’t pay more than a min deal, and also potentially gets the Lakers back a player that is maybe slightly better than a league min guy nobody wants. If that market is dry I’m assuming one of Thompson or Bamba would be back. I’ll judge how I feel about the off-season once I see who they land there. If it’s just Thompson/Bamba then I’m still on the Lakers had a neutral off-season side of the fence.
They could also decided to leave that cap space open for the trade deadline too. Could be valuable to be able to bring back a player that’s a bit more than whatever they are trading out. For example DLo + Vando + extra room under the hard cap could net them back a 30m contract player. I feel like Gabe and JHS play will largely dictate how much they pursue DLo trade options at the deadline.
One more thing I do want to add. Hayes is really the first player they’ve added that does a lot of things AD does. So when AD misses 30 games this year maybe they have a guy better suited at filling that void while he’s gone. Obviously scoring replacement would come by committee from guys like DLo, Gabe, Reaves, Rui, Bron if he’s healthy, but Hayes gives them a long defender capable of defending and switching multiple spots, who is similarly a great lob threat and runs the floor. They haven’t had a player to fill that role when AD misses time at any point in this Bron+AD era.Last edited by ojandpizza; 07-02-2023, 05:29 PM.Comment

Re: 2023 Offseason Thread
I think Lakers did well to a degree. Reeves was great but everything else is being a bit overhyped. Reddish is below average but he's the type of guy LAL/twitter will hype a bunch. Gabe is a good add but only in the upgrade over Dennis sense. the playoff run is not who he typically is. (that vodoo will not transfer over.) DLO i don't think much in a playoff setting, still don't. Prince is whatever to me. Rui is fine. don't have a strong opinion on Hayes either.Last edited by BleacherBum2310; 07-02-2023, 05:47 PM.Wolverines Packers Cubs Celtics
