I guess technically, but feels extremely unlikely for almost any coach to remain with any team for 7-8 years lol. In all likelihood he'll be fired before they even have to make a decision on those option years.NFL: Bills
NBA: Bucks
MLB: Cubs
NCAA: Syracuse
Soccer: USMNT/DC United

Re: 2023 Offseason Thread
Detroit was most likely going to have to PAY to get a decent coach over there anyways. I think Monty will be a great fit, he was at his best when Phoenix was still a young team learning and building good habits.. Ultimately overachieving.
One thing you don't want is all the young pieces learning bad habits. Having a vet like Bogdanovic around and Monty at coach should be a big help to them. And like others have said, who knows if he even plays out that contract or if it even looks expensive a couple years into it.Comment

Re: 2023 Offseason Thread
You don't want to anger management, but that calls for the old "I'd love to have a guy like that on our team, but that's not my decision, and a deal would have to be reached that makes sense for both sides."
If Harden goes to Houston, does Philly acquire some firsts in the S&T?
Rockets have conditions on their own picks so they probably can't deal their own. But they have firsts that were acquired from Brooklyn...for Harden!
This reminds me a bit of the Chris Webber deals. He was traded from Orlando to GS in a deal involving a few firsts. A year later he was traded from GS to Washington in a deal involving a few firsts, most of the same firsts they dealt to Orlando that eventually made its way to Washington.
I think Harden leaving has to be the first domino though. He goes, 76ers get a few players and picks back in a S&T. They then deal at least one of those picks attached with Harris to get FVV.Last edited by Majingir; 06-01-2023, 06:12 PM.Comment

I don't think the Houston thing isn't just leverage. Mainly because teams are quick to dismiss certain rumors through "leaks". Like the Mavs were quick to put the word out that they weren't interested in doing a S&T with Kyrie or help out the Lakers. Houston hasn't put anything out denying it. I guess we won't really know until the draft and if Houston trades their pick
The only incentive for Houston to do a sign and trade is if Harden wants the max of what he can get, which is what Philly can only offer. Houston obviously has more than enough cap space to sign Harden to a max under what Philly can offer and get other players. Philly can offer Harden $210M vs Houston can offer $201M. But with no state income tax and cost of living, he's better off going to Houston. Philly beat reporters were saying that Harden spent New Year's in Houston when Philly played OKCLast edited by illwill10; 06-01-2023, 06:46 PM.Comment

Re: 2023 Offseason Thread
Danuel House picked up his player option, I'm hoping that Montrezl Harrell declines his. If he fell out of Doc's rotation, there's no way he'll fit into what Nurse wants to do. I can see them making trades this offense to improve roster since they won't have much space or draft picks
I'm hoping that Nurse gets Embiid back to focusing on defense and rebounding this year. Embiid has his MVP and first team All NBA already now. So, I rather him take a step back on offense and really commit to the defensive side again. It was clear this season that they were focusing everything on him winning MVP. No need to gun for 30ppg+ again. I'd rather see him average 26-28 PPG, 12 rebounds, and 2 blocks and have Maxey take a bigger role on offense, especially if Harden is gone.Comment

Re: 2023 Offseason Thread
Raptors meeting with Sergio Scariolo.
I think he's the fave at this point. Can't hire him yet since his team is still playing, but would make sense if he ends up being the choice.
He's done everything he can do as coach, winning in Europe, winning as an assistant with the Raptors, now he could be coming back to coach them.
Fun fact, he was given the game ball by Lowry after the Raptors won in 2019.Comment

Re: 2023 Offseason Thread
James Borrego hired to be New Orleans Associate Head Coach
Kevin Ollie hired as Nets Assistant Coach
Kevin Young is staying as Suns Assistant Coach, but should be highest paid in League
Terry Stotts hired likely as Associate Head Coach to the Bucks. I think that's a good hire for Griffin to have someone on his staff with head coaching experience
We're in the Assistant Coach hiring part of the Coach hiring processLast edited by illwill10; 06-03-2023, 05:47 PM.Comment

Re: 2023 Offseason Thread
So, why didn't Phoenix just promote Young to HC? They obviously wanted to keep him around and he'll likely be a head coach at some point.

Re: 2023 Offseason Thread
Sam Cassell is joining Celtics coaching staff. I was hoping he would stay, but I understand. I do think it'll be good for Cassell to get out of Doc's shadow. Another good Boston season and glowing reviews and I think he'll have a legit shot at a HC job next yearComment
