It's not the chance you take when you signed a 30+ year old to a super max deal and tanked the year.

Let's be honest. By the time the Knicks are ready to contend again, Melo most likely won't be the #1 guy anymore. Just because you signed him doesn't mean you mortgage the future for a tiny chance at present day success. That's what got the Knicks in trouble in the first place.

Porzingis is a great prospect, and he'll be able to play right away. People keep saying he can't play now, but he just got done beasting against grown men that are far more of a physical challenge than what guys like Okafor and Towns faced in college. He already weighs as much as many PFs.

Between getting Porzingis, getting Hernangomez, who was a possible lottery pick if he came back next year, and getting a first round pick out of Hardaway, Phil did a great job last night, and this is coming from someone that loves making fun of the Knicks.

I think "beasting" is quite a stretch. He appeared to get manhandled a lot in the paint based on the videos available.

We're going to play him a lot next year because he's going to have to get thrown into the fire and play through his mistakes in order to develop as quickly as possible. Plus, we won't have any other better options lol.

I expect him to struggle a lot next year. I've said it before and I'll say it again but I think his lack of strength is blinding people to other concerns. His basketball IQ is supposed to be suspect and his feel for the game doesn't look great. That's a concern even if he's only 19, that's something that you either have or you don't for the most part, you don't develop it.

He's a non-passer which is interesting. Phil loves multi-tool players and has already cleared our roster of all the one-dimensional players and terrible passers (Hardaway, Shumpert, JR, etc). Taps should turn into a decent rebounder at least so if he gives us scoring/shooting and rebounding he'll be more impactful than most bums we've had.

I'm really hoping that we move Carmelo in the next 10 days. I hope the Taps pick pissed him off, he realizes we'll be rebuilding for the next few years and asks for a trade. Go full rebuild, get several picks for the next few years. Melo got his money, now let him go to a contender. Keep it going, Phil.

We're going to play him a lot next year because he's going to have to get thrown into the fire and play through his mistakes in order to develop as quickly as possible. Plus, we won't have any other better options lol.

Almost every rookie hurts their team their first year or two; he won't be any different, but I think he'll be able to hang with NBA players much more than people seem to give him credit for. Even if he got pushed around a bit on defense, he still got his at the other end against grown men that would manhandle a lot of the other 1st round picks.

We'll see. Most of it seemed to come from set shots. The clips of him making a play off the dribble - I don't think he'll be doing that sort of stuff next year. The jump in athleticism is still substantial, even from Liga ACB.

Yeah, we'll see. I think he's going to be a good player though, and IMO, it's better to just build for the future and if you happen to get good while Melo is still an alpha guy, it's an added bonus.

And for what it's worth, Synergy Sports did a breakdown of Porzingis and said that his % curling off of screens and stuff was exceptional for any position, much less for a 7'2" PF.

Not just the players, the friggin' scouting department needs an overhaul. Look at the Bucks - those cats are young, hungry and have heart. Why can't we get cats like that? Why can't we get high basketball IQ players like the Spurs? Where are the foreign players? Why do the Knicks always go for divas? This franchise has exactly one playoff series win since Dolan took over...ONE in what, fourteen years???????

Some mixed draft thoughts after I slept on it.

I'm going to trust that Phil Jackson knows more about basketball than I do. His pick of Porzingis sort of shows that he's not succumbing to the typical NY pressure of win asap. And he doesn't even expect KP to come in and produce right away. Which leads me to think that he's not going to go out there and overpay free agents in an effort to compete for 8th over the next two years and put us back in salary cap hell.

As far as passing ability, you don't really have to have great court vision to succeed as a passer in the triangle, you just need to know when to pass. Jason Smith or Cole Aldrich were never noted for their passing ability but both had some impressive assist games, averaging 2.8 per 36 minutes.

IF Porzingis is athletic as people say, if we're put in a situation where we play smallball, he'll be a massive mismatch as a smallball 5.

I will say that his level of confidence is really impressive. He's saying all the right things and it seems his work ethic and motivation are high level. I also like that he has his brother pushing him to be a good player, they're like the anti-Smith Bros.

I love the Jerian Grant trade. He was one of my favorite college players this past season and did it all for ND. Played both ends and stepped up in big games.

There's also rumors that David West is going to sign with us.

Huh? It's the NBA Draft. These guys are 19-22 years of age. Every pick is for the future.

The analysts straight up said that Porzingis will be the best player in the draft in 10 years.

TEN YEARS?! Are they out of their ****ing mind? 10 years? It doesn't take anyone ten years to figure it out. It takes 3 at most to know where a guy is going and by year 5 he's hit his peak for the most part. If you're waiting for Porzingis to be 29 when he figures it out, then the Knicks will have several lottery picks to choose from to replace him by that time.

Absolutely insane.

Every highlight of this guy is shooting open threes and dunking on people a foot shorter than him. Wow, so impressive. So he hits open threes and dunks on people shorter than him. Welcome to the NBA where players under the rim are your height and you don't get as many open looks.

I saw nothing in him that says he can create his own shot. He acknowledges he needs to work on his size. But at what cost?

Porzingis is the type of player you take in the 20s when you have a good team that needs an extra weapon. Instead, the Knicks just drafted a kid that will be an 18-6 guy in 3 years out of necessity because of a lack of good enough talent on the roster and never be able to carry the load. Awesome!

1. They aren't saying it will take him 10 years before he can make an impact lol. They're saying 10 years from now, we'll all look back on the draft and say that Porzingis was the best player. They simply think he's better than Okafor/Towns/Russell/etc.

2. The guys he was going up against aren't that short. He's just 7'2" or 7'3" in shoes. There's pictures of him with Towns and Okafor and he makes them look like small forwards.

If you watch his scouting report and stuff and come away unimpressed, that's fine, but it goes against what the majority of scouts see in him. Even the advanced analytics guys think he would have dominated the NCAA if he played here based on their formulas.
