    Re: Official Slider Discussion Thread

I used the settings below earlier and had a great fight with my CAB against Old George. The connect rate was higher than I liked. It was 53% with zero speed! It was on Champion, not GOAT. He threw 462 punches over 12 rounds, I threw 1169, mostly jabs to see what would happen. I had my CAB setup as a 6'3", 200lb heavyweight with a 78" reach and best punch as a jab (hoping it would make a difference - it kinda did) and a smooth stance with speed punching. I used the ring, staying out of the corner and off the ropes as much a possible. I landed about 46% of the 600 jabs I threw, using them in 1-1, 1-1-2 and 2-1-1 combos, varying to see what would happen with the timed block. My CAB had 90 power in both hands and 100 hand and foot speed (Ali clone). The results were good. Moving the speed from two to zero really didn't accomplish much as far as lowering the connect percentage. It might have limited a few counters, but not many. I have found the jab is rarely time-blocked when you circle their lead hand. I double and tripled the jab against against Old Foreman using this. It wasn't me abusing the AI, it was me tossing jabs everytime he set his feet or opened his guard. I would often use a cross for a counter and follow with two jabs, which helped. In the end his face was jacked up. I feel close with the set below:

    Ref sliders - both 10
    Power - 10
    Speed - 2
Damage - 2 (have had stoppages on cuts)
    Toughness - 9
    Accuracy - 0
    Stamina - 5
    Counter window - 0
    CPU AI - both 0
    Punch Output - 0

I KO'd Old George, but it took the late rounds to do it. His chin help up big time. It was a great fight won by basic boxing tactics.

On a funny note I used the same settings against another CAb and was getting slaughtered, knocked out twice in a row at one point in Fight Now. I went back to edit the settings and I looked at the top and saw 'G.O.A.T.'. I started laughing...no wonders I couldn't do anything, lol. GOAT has that insane power edge to the CPU, not going to touch it.

Would someone test these sliders with me? I think they are close and I am getting ok connect percentages and good punch outputs for the CAB's AI I assign. GUys do seem to fight like their selves and what I like is they flurry against you when you are hurt. As much as I hate losing it is true to real life boxing form, and I love a good fight.

I might have time to try them tonight. What are you seeing as far as knockdowns with these? I would think with Toughness that high, you're going to see the CPU get up many, many times, unless you just wear him down and knock him down late.

You are going to think I am crazy, but I had a flash KO in the 3rd that knocked him silly and he laid there. I like the 10 power because of how it wears down their guard when they are stunned and picking off punches like mad. I also like that the jab actually hurts them (and me). With nine toughness I don't see a lot of knockdowns, but I do see a few stuns. Old George was a hard, hard fight. I still have a few fights, but these seem to fight well and the CAB's I created (one for each AI title) seem to fight according to their label.

Oh, I am seeing damage Parker. I know 2 on damage seems low, but with 10 power it evens that out, trust me. Old George was 'toe up'. Both eyes were swollenn and there was one of those nasty cuts where my jab kept finding a nice bloody place to land on, lol.

Cancel the zero on the CPU OFF AI. Make it 9. I actually had a ten rounder with Ali where I won on a counter flash KO. Depending on how the round went it would have been a draw. Here is where I am right now, and I am loving these a lot, especially the fact I can jab and see it's effects. Ali's eye looked rough from the constant jabs his eye took. I landed 40% of my punches, he landed 48%. I don't know why, but 9 on AI makes them fight more according to their style. Warning...they do finish a little smarter and they will catch you coming in to finish a stun. I ask anyone that would to test these and tell em what you get. Thanks!

Also, if you're still wanting to try Pro, I'll be updating here after bit I hope. Working on more testing now.

I've almost given up on pro, but I'm willing to give your sliders a try if you end up happy with them.

It depends on what you're looking for. I'm done trying to get absolute realism.

I'm looking more for pseudo-realism combined with the fun of kicking the crap out of the computer. I'm looking for a more casual experience - the slider tweaking burned me out on the game.

                    I think I found it.

I set Power and Toughness to 10. I set Stamina to 10. I set both awareness sliders to 10. I set Output to 10. Everything else was set to 0.

In the first round of my first Amateur tourney fight, I threw 68 punches and he threw SIXTY EIGHT punches. Now I just have to tweak the connect percentages.

Holy crap. He threw 67 in the 2nd round, to my 50 and freaking knocked me down with a counter. Ouch!

I think I may have found something here.

                        1st Round
                        Me - 53/68
                        Him - 43-68

                        2nd Round
                        Me - 37/50
                        Him - 34/67

                        3rd Round
                        Me - 36/63
                        Him - 21/50

                        4th Round
                        Me - 14/18
                        Him - 5/13

Of course, the percentages need to be tweaked in a bad way. But for right now I just wanted to prove that I could get the CPU to punch on Pro.

It's most definitely the Toughness slider. Not only does he throw more punches, he doesn't go into a shell after being stunned or knocked down.

Speaking of knock downs, at the beginning of the 4th I caught him with a left hook-right hook-left hook combo and he went down without being stunned. It was a thing of beauty.

On pro? You might be on to something. I'll give those a try.

I'm not looking for absolute realism, either. I'm just looking for the matches to be reasonably challenging without either me or the CPU having an unfair advantage.

As for my impressions of act's latest sliders:

The good: More flash KDs than stunned KDs. CPU doesn't seem to counter as much as on previous champion sets.

The bad: The CPU gets up too much. My connect percentage is a bit too high. CPU not throwing nearly enough punches.

I did have the prettiest KO I've seen using those sliders, though. I moved in for a jab-jab-right hook combo. The jabs landed, which caused the CPU to duck to his left to avoid the anticipated third jab, which moved him right into my hook. He didn't get up from that one.

                            Control test #1

Power, Toughness, Awareness, and Output at 10. This time turned Stamina to zero.

It's gotta be the Toughness slider, because lowering Stamina from 10 to 0 doesn't seem to have done much at all. If anything, my hit rate is hurting his output more than anything. I threw 56 punches to his 36 in this round, but he couldn't throw more because he was too busy getting hit. 73%!

                            Gotta figure that out.

The main reason I'm playing on Pro is because on any higher level, the CPU has an extremely unfair advantage in terms of knockdowns. He can get up 4 or 5 times and I can't.

On Pro, there's no escaping it - you're going to have the advantage. I'm just trying to minimize it as much as possible.

Raising Speed to 5 lowered connect percentages for both me and the CPU about 10%. They're still high, but they're more manageable.

In addition, lowering Stamina to 0 reduced the amount of stuns/knockdowns by quite a bit, simply because I lacked the energy to finish him off after a flurry of punches. It might have a detrimental effect on him as well as me, so I'll have to look for a balance there.

And while decreasing stamina does reduce the number of HARD punches I can land, it doesn't limit the total number of punches. In other words, a weak punch that lands doesn't knock him down, but it still counts as a landed punch, so there's still some disparity in the score cards in favor of the Player. I think I can fix it - in my last fight I actually lost a round on all 3 cards and split another.
