Depends on what they wanna gain out of him.

They could go the AEW character arc where they push him to the top of the card and have him beat some top names, then use him to put over some up and coming guys.

But I think we all know by now that rarely happens in WWE.

I would assume if he was to return, he would have some demands and guarantees. If I were him, I would demand some semblance of creative control, a title run, and a no release clause. If WWE wants him bad enough I bet they will cave.

Getting him in WWE and on Mania would be a huge coup for WWE. They can posture it as they stole a huge talent from AEW and you know Vince would love nothing more.

No lie, he'd fit in really well there both backstage and with his vision of wrestling. If only.

I would say it would be the most shocking move in wrestling history. Bigger than getting WCW because they were a wounded animal for two or three years and not the same familial ties.

Apparently, it came down to money. He was wanting Mox/Punk/Danielson money (rumored to be in the $4-$6M range).

AEW salary information is not public, but the rumors were all the EVPs and Jericho were in the $3M range, and then Mox/Punk/Danielson were in the $4M-$6M.

Now I’m not a professional by any stretch of the imagination, but I do recognize that the combo of Mox/Punk/Danielson have more drawing power than the EVPs. Therefore, it makes business sense that they make more money.

A WCW type mistake would be overpaying a talent just to keep him from going to a competitor. WCW famously did that with Hall and Nash when WWE teased they were returning, only for it to be Fake Diesel and Fake Razor.

Look, I love Danielson and wanted - although I'm starting to feel otherwise - Punk back in pro wrestling. Yet, the last 3 or 4 months have clearly shown that their "drawing power" is way, way over stated.

(Note: And in particular by me since I thought they'd add another 500,000 to 900,000 viewers to their programming and make this an actual competition. Instead of them just taking over Impact's former spot as the #2 company but with a much smaller audience.)

None of Moxley, Punk or Danielson have proven that they're deserving of higher salaries than one of the guys that helped build AEW. They all came from the same prior establishment and none of them have moved the needle....

It would make more sense to stop acquiring new talent, cutting loose some deadweight (stop trying to virtue signal to goofy wrestling fans) and shuffle some other finances to keep the co - founders in-house.

I personally just don’t think someone who went to a less popular company, failed (in his expectations and arguably the fans) can go to a more popular company with that much leverage. But who knows, maybe he will get everything lol.

But I'm speaking from a more Vince perspective. No doubt he sees getting Cody as a major coup because of him coming from AEW and the hype around him for what you can argue either way what he meant to AEW.

This is probably more about getting a "top AEW star" than getting Cody himself.

And I'm just saying if I was Cody, I would want some guarantees so I know I wouldn't just get lost in the shuffle after the initial hype dies down. Because knowing how much Vince wants him for those reasons, Cody would no doubt have some leverage.

Apparently not since AEW was supposedly bidding against themselves for Punk.

There are plenty of reasons why WWE never even picked up the phone for Punk.

They probably pay Brock that much but he's worth it even if most fans (including myself) would disagree.
