Red Sox Take Sole Possession With Win!!!!!

Red Sox alone in first after beating hated Yankees.

The Red Sox earned a 7-6 victory over the Yankees last night at Fenway Park, as 34,375 fans witnessed Boston rolling into sole possession of first place in the AL East, ahead of now-second-place Yankees. Jacoby Ellsbury slugged a home run and drove in 3 runs, going 2-for-5 at the plate to lead the offense. Kelvin Pichardo allowed no runs on no hits in 2.2 innings of relief to get the win, his 1st of the season, in extra frames. Home runs may be cheap these days, but Rodriguez entered 50-HR territory with his latest long ball.

The series continues tonight with a stellar pitching match-up: Josh Beckett (17-5, 3.35) of the Red Sox vs. Chien-Ming Wang (20-5, 3.37) of the Yankees.

Jays survive late rally by O's to even series!!!!!

Baltimore, MD - It took all 27 outs for the Blue Jays to topple the O's tonight, but fate would be on their side as the Jays evened up the series with a 5-4 victory. The Jays got a home run from Lyle Overbay in the 8th inning pushing their lead to 5-3. The lead remained that way until the 9th when the Orioles gave their fans hope of a dramatic comeback. The "Birds" got singles from Alex Cintron and Freddie Bynum to lead off the 9th against Jays' closer B.J. Ryan. Brian Roberts then delivered an RBI single to center field to cut the lead to 5-4 and runners at the corners with no outs. Roberts, who had stolen 2 bases on the night already, tried to swipe 2nd again, but was gunned down, leaving Bynum at 3rd with 1 out. Ryan would then strike out Nick Markakis and get Luke Scott to fly out to left, going a combined 0-8 between the two on the night, to pick up his 43rd save of the season and put an end to the threat. The two teams will finish up 2008 tomorrow as they fight for pride.
