O's guaranteed last place finish after close loss to Rays!!!!!

Baltimore, MD - Well, 2008 will go down as a last place finish in the AL East for the Orioles, but they didn't go down without a fight. Sometimes having heart is just not enough. The Orioles dropped a 5-4 decision to the Rays tonight after coming back from 4-0 down to tie the game late. Cliff Floyd put the Rays out in front with a 2-RBI single in the 1st, leading to a 4-run inning, and then delivered the game winning home run in the 8th off of Steve Trachsel. Troy Percival finished off the O's in the 9th, collecting his 40th save of the season. Both teams will decide the series tomorrow night.

Highheat, thanks for the comments on my page. Just want you to know that this is truly great, inspiring to all of us MLB'ers out there! Keep it going and do some work in the offseason. Who knows, maybe you will pick up that guy that will get you more competitive in that tough AL East.

Tigers Clinch AL Central, Wait For October!!!!!

Home victory over Royals extra sweet for Tigers, who defeat arch-rivals to win AL Central.

The Tigers and their fans celebrated at Comerica Park last night, as Detroit defeated Kansas City 5-2 to secure the AL Central crown. Gary Sheffield went 2-for-3 in the game, belting a home run and driving in 2 runs. With some help from the bullpen, Joel Zumaya earned victory number 5 of the season, as he allowed 2 runs and 1 hit over 6.2 innings. Miguel Cabrera achieved a personal milestone by picking up RBI number 100 on the year.

The Tigers and Royals wrap up the series under the lights, with Jeremy Bonderman (8-6, 4.76) and John Bale (4-4, 3.68) scheduled to take the mound.

I'd imagine that as well. Hope to get a good pitcher, but we'll see. I've actually changed my house rule on the draft process. It was originally picking #1-13 by a card, but during drafts, you usually take the best picks, I don't feel like I should be punished for that. It would be like the Lakers passing up Kobe for the 12th or 13th best player available, I didn't like that rule and really didn't think about it when I set the process up, so I've allowed myself to take the best prospect at that current position, but all the free agency stuff will still be determined by my card process. Here is the current house rule.

I will draft according to positions needed beginning with the higher amount of players needed for that position. I will take the top prospect available at that position, but the years/$$$ offered will still be determined by a card process.

Orioles overcome Mora's meltdown to take series!!!!!

Baltimore, MD - Every now and then you just have one of those days. Tonight, it was just that for Melvin Mora. Melvin committed 3 errors on the night, including 2 in the 7th inning alone, but the O's managed to overcome the situations and defeat the Rays 4-3 tonight to finish off the series and take the rubber game. The "Birds" jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning when Luke Scott delivered his 29th home run and 100th RBI of the year. The O's then got an RBI single from Aubrey Huff and then Scott again, delivered a single to left to push their lead to 3-0. The Rays fought back to tie the game in the 5th, a home run from Ronnie Merrill and a double to the gap in left center off the bat of Evan Longoria. The tie game wouldn't last long though when Freddie Bynum, who came to the plate with 2 doubles on the night, led off the bottom of the 5th with a solo homer of his own which would prove to be the game winner. In the 7th, things became hairy for the O's when Melvin Mora had back-to-back errors, a ground ball through his legs and an overthrow, both coming with 1 out. After a walk to load the bases, the O's turned to Bob McCrory who got the Akinori Iwamura to ground into a double play to end the threat. Chad Bradford and George Sherrill would then finish off the Rays and send them packing to take the series. The O's are off tomorrow before welcoming the Blue Jays for the final 3 games of the 2008 season.
