Blue Jays rally twice in one night to overtake Orioles in series opener!!!!!

Toronto, ON - The Blue Jays erased a 3-0 and 7-3 deficit to overtake the Orioles tonight and walk away with an 8-7 win at Rogers Center. The Orioles rocked Jays starter A.J. Burnett for 7 runs on 10 hits in just 4.0 innings. O's starter Adam Loewen would be just as ineffective, going 4.2 IP, allowing 6 runs on 7 hits and the Blue Jays stormed back with 3 home runs, the game winner coming off the bat of Greg Zaun in the 8th inning off of Orioles reliever Jensen Lewis. Shannon Stewart went 3-for-4 on the night for the victors with a home run and double to help spark the comeback. B.J. Ryan picked up his 41st save of the season by getting Aubrey Huff to ground out to second with a runner in scoring position in the 9th to seal the victory. Both teams will look to continue the offensive showdown tomorrow in game 2 of the series.

Cardinals gain ground on Pirates in the NL Central with win over Reds.

The Cardinals slashed the first-place Pirates' advantage in the NL Central to half a game following a 4-3 road win against the Reds, a divisional contest played before 40,461 fans at Great American Ballpark. Rick Ankiel sparked the offense, belting a solo home run and collecting 2 hits in 4 trips to the plate. Adam Wainwright picked up his 11th win of the season, going 7 innings, allowing 2 runs on 7 hits.

The two teams wrap up the series tonight at Great American Ballpark, with the probable starters being Matt Clement (4-4, 4.61) for the Cardinals and Johnny Cueto (10-8, 4.57) for the Reds.
