Pirates Take Sole Possession With Win!!!!!

Pirates win NL Central battle on the road, take lead in division.

The Pirates picked up a huge 5-4 win against the Astros last night in Houston, slipping into first place in the NL Central ahead of the previous co-leaders in the division, the Cardinals. Jason Michaels picked up 1 RBI and went 1-for-1 on the day. Yoslan Herrera wasn't bad, allowing 3 runs over 6.1 innings, but all he has to show for it is a no-decision. Olivo Astacio held the line in extra innings, picking up his 7th win of the season, allowing 1 run and 3 hits in 2 innings.

The Pirates can wrap up the sweep tonight at Minute Maid Park behind Ty Taubenheim (2-0, 3.29), who's facing the Astros' Chris Sampson (4-2, 5.04). Xaiver Nady looks to build on his 14-game hitting streak.

Cleveland literally walks out of Baltimore with sweep of Orioles!!!!!

Baltimore, MD - In one of the most bizarre lines that a starting pitcher could have, Daniel Cabrera allowed just 2 hits in a losing effort tonight at the "Yard." The problem with that though, those 2 hits resulted in 6 runs allowed based off of Cabrera's control problems, allowing a season high 7 walks in 5.1 innings of work. David Dellucci delivered a 3-run home run as one of the 2 hits in the 1st inning to put the "Tribe" out in front and they never looked back in rout to a 6-2 victory and a 4-game sweep of the Orioles. C.C. Sabathia picked up his 13th win of the year, going 8.0 solid innings, allowing 2 runs on 10 hits and striking out 8. Luke Scott delivered his 26th home run of the year in the 4th inning for the O's, but it wasn't nearly enough. The O's will try and snap their 4-game skid as they host the Twins beginning tomorrow night.

Thanks man, the race that I'm most interested in right now is the Pirates/Cardinals. I can't believe of all teams, the Pirates may be making a run at the Fall Classic. I'm getting ready to update the Minor League Playoffs again.

Big Win For Phillies, Narrows Gap!!!!!

Keeping NL East hopes alive, Phillies gain ground on Mets with win against Brewers at home.

At home under the lights, the Phillies picked up a 5-4 victory against the Brewers and pulled closer to the Mets in the NL East, trimming their lead to 4 games. Cole Hamels gave the club a small jolt, driving in 1 run on a 1-for-1 performance. Coming into a tie game, Tom Gordon hung around long enough to get the win, throwing 4 innings while allowing no runs and no hits in relief of Cole Hamels. Cole Hamels reached something of a milestone by collecting career strikeout number 500.

The Phillies will start Fabio Castro (10-6, 4.23) tonight in game 2 of the series, while the Brewers counter with Manny Parra (3-5, 4.25).

O's bullpen provides scare as offense pounds frustrations out on Hernandez and Twins!!!!!

Baltimore, MD - The Orioles offense came prepared tonight, jumping all over Livan Hernandez. The O's bats provided 7 runs on 10 hits in the first 3 innings, knocking Hernandez from the game with a 7-0 lead. Freddie Bynum tore it up tonight, going 4-for-5 on the night with a home run and a triple shy of hitting for the cycle. Radhames Liz was phenomenal, going 6.1 innings, allowing just 1 run on 2 hits to improve his record to 8-5 on the year. The win didn't come easy however. After turning the ball over to the bullpen, the Twins got back into the ballgame and had opportunities to shock the fans at Camden Yards by taking advantage of a tired O's bullpen. Mike Lamb and Carlos Gomez delivered solo home runs to cut the lead to 7-2. Mike Lamb then got the Twins to within 7-3 with an RBI single in the 8th. In the 9th, Dennis Sarfate was ineffective, allowing the bases to get loaded with nobody out in the inning, turning the ball over to George Sherrill, a position that the "Birds" should've never been in. Sherrill would strike out 4 batters in the inning after surrendering a run on a dropped 3rd strike to seal the victory and leaving with an impressive rundown of Mauer, Morneau, and Cuddyer. Justin Morneau continues to attempt to make history however, getting a single in the 8th inning to extend his hitting streak to 38 games. The O's will look to make it 2 straight as both teams gear up for another showdown tomorrow night.
