Oakland Gets "W" To Takeover 1st!!!!!

Athletics ditch communist urges for now, are all alone in first after beating Royals.

The Athletics defeated the Royals 10-6 last night in front of 28,886 fans at Kauffman Stadium, grabbing the lead from the Mariners in the AL West along the way. Frank Thomas carried the club, going 3-for-5 with a home run and 5 RBI's. Win number 12 of the season was also consecutive win number 3 for Joe Blanton, who allowed 3 runs and 8 hits in 7 innings.

The Athletics go to Baltimore to start a new series with the Orioles, with Chad Gaudin (2-4, 4.82) set to take on Adam Loewen (4-6, 5.40) under the lights at Oriole Park.

Orioles take opener behind Mora's home run explosion!!!!!

Baltimore, MD - Melvin Mora homered in his first two trips to the plate tonight as the Orioles jumped to a 6-0 lead before knocking off the AL West leading Athletics by a score of 6-2. Adam Loewen picked up his 5th win of the year, looking outstanding in the outing. Adam went 6.2 innings, giving up 2 runs on 4 hits and recorded 9 strikeouts before turning the reigns over to the bullpen. Bob McCrory entered the game in the 9th to shut down any threat the A's would offer to pick up his 1st career save. Both teams will gear up for game 2 tomorrow night.

Yeah, I'd be right in the hunt if I was in the West. Oh well. How about those Cards? I can't believe of all teams that are chasing them is the Pirates? Crazy. Should be a great pennant chase.

Orioles fail to capitalize on key moments, leads A's to even series!!!!!

Baltimore, MD - The Orioles as a team tonight went 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position including having the bases loaded in the 8th with the game tied at 3-3 and a runner at 3rd in the 10th trailing by a run as the Athletics stole game 2 of the 3-game series tonight at Camden Yards to remain in first place in the AL West. The A's go home runs from Kurt Suzuki in the 3rd and Eric Chavez in the 6th to pace their offense and won it in the 10th inning on an infield RBI single by Carlos Gonzalez. Kiko Calero pitched the 9th to pick up the win and Huston Street managed to survive an Oriole rally in the 10th to record his 40th save of the season by getting former Athletic Ramon Hernadez to fly out to the warning track in center field to leave runners at 1st and 3rd. The A's and O's will round out the series tomorrow night.
