Huge Home Crowd Sees Phillies Chip Away At Wild Card Lead!!!!!

With win, Phillies keep pressure on wild card leading Cardinals.

At home under the lights, the Phillies earned a 10-5 victory against the Brewers and cut their deficit in the NL Wild Card race to half a game behind the first-place Cardinals. Chase Utley provided the offense, collecting 3 hits -- including a home run -- and 2 RBI's. Matt Smith vultured the win (his 1st of the season) out of the bullpen, coming into a tie game and working 1 inning and allowing no runs on 1 hit in relief of starter Jamie Moyer. Jamie Moyer was removed from the game early because of an injury (bruised hand). He's officially listed as day-to-day.

The series ends this afternoon, and toeing the rubber for the Phillies will be Kris Benson (8-4, 4.85), who will face the Brewers' Dave Bush (8-11, 4.40).

O's lose heart-breaker as Twins rally to avoid sweep!!!!!

Baltimore, MD - The Twins got back-to-back doubles in the 8th inning from Joe Mauer and Brendan Harris to erase a 3-1 Orioles lead and went on to win 4-3 in 10 innings tonight at Camden Yards to avoid a sweep from the "Birds". O's starter Troy Patton left the stadium frustrated after going 7.1 innings, while allowing just 1 run on 4 hits before turning the ball over to Chad Bradford and the O's bullpen. Bradford would give up the lead on the 2 doubles, but managed to get out of the inning. In extra innings, Nick Punto reached on a fielder's choice when Brian Roberts dropped the turn on a 6,4,3 double play ball that would've gotten the O's out of the inning, but allowed Mike Lamb to score, giving the Twins the lead for good. Joe Nathan then took over in the bottom of the 10th and got Freddie Bynum, Brian Roberts, and Nick Markakis to all ground out to the shortstop to secure his 41st save of the year. Justin Morneau went without a hit for the first time in 40 games to end his hitting streak. The "Birds" are off tomorrow before heading to Toronto to open a series with the "Blue Birds".
