December 12, 2012: UC Santa Barbara @ Gonzaga

Once again, Gonzaga proves to be too much at home as they destroy winless UC Santa Barbara, 84-51.

Gonzaga was led by Freshman Center Doug Montgomery! Finally! Montgomery dominated this game by scoring a game high 25 points on a phenomenal 10/12 shooting from the floor and 4/6 from the free throw line. He also grabbed 5 boards and had 1 steal and block. Sophomore PF Vernon Lopez had a great all around game by scoring 16 points on 5/8 shooting from the floor and 6/10 from the free throw line. He also grabbed 6 rebounds and continues to be a shot blocking force down low by swatting 3 shots in this game. Freshman SF Sammy Sola also had a great game by scoring 13 points on 3/5 shooting from the floor and 6/7 from the free throw line. He also grabbed 5 boards.

The only player really worth mentioning for the Gauchos is Senior PF Tron Ibekwe who finished with a team high 17 points on 7/10 shooting and 7 rebounds. UC Santa Barbara turned in one of the worse shooting percentages vs. a Danny Carmichael coached team by only shooting 28% from the floor. They also shot 25% from 3 point range and 48% from the free throw line.

Thanks! Hope I can reel in at least 3 more of the players on the target list to fill the rest of the available scholarships.

Junior PG Javier Falu and Sophomore PG Corien Ozier both chipped in 9 points for the Eagles in the losing effort.

              December 19, 2012: Gonzaga @ #7 Washington

A horrific shooting performance for Gonzaga sinks their chances of upsetting in state rival #7 Washington on the road, as the Huskies take this one, 72-63.

Gonzaga was led by Senior PG Wade Spaulding as he finished with 18 points, 6 assists, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals. The 5'7" guard even blocked a shot as well in his 37 minutes of playing time. Sophomore PF Vernon Lopez came through with his second straight double double in an impressive 12 point and 11 rebound performance. However, they would be the only two Bulldogs to crack 10 points in this game as the Bulldogs shot 18/58 from the floor and turned the ball over 22 times.

Washington was led by Junior C Doug Tyler who finished with 15 points on 5/9 shooting and 5/5 from the free throw line. He also grabbed 5 boards and blocked 2 shots in his 15 minutes of playing time. Sophomore PG Hyman Domercant played a fantastic all around game as he finished with 11 points, 6 assists, 3 blocks, and 2 steals. Senior SF Fab Sherrod chipped in 10 points of his own and also added 7 rebounds and 3 assists to his stat line.

                December 22, 2012: Gonzaga @ Michigan

Gonzaga totally shuts down Michigan's offense in the 2nd half, en route to a 60-52 win on the road!

Gonzaga was led by Senior PG Wade Spaulding who finished with 20 points on 8/14 shooting, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals in 36 minutes of playing time. The only other player to hit double digits in the points column was Sophomore PF Vernon Lopez. Lopez finished with 10 points, 8 boards, and 2 blocks in 33 minutes of playing time. As a team, Gonzaga shot 19/50 (38%) from the floor in the win.

Michigan was carried by Junior SG Anil Braun who finished with a game high 27 points on 9/22 shooting from the floor, 3/9 shooting from 3 point range, and 6/8 from the free throw line. Braun also had 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals in this game. Braun was the only player for the Wolverines to score more than 6 points. Michigan as a team shot 17/60 (28%) and a pitiful 4/24 (16%) from 3 point range in the low scoring loss.

                      2013 Recruiting Class

The Gonzaga Bulldogs had 7 open scholarships for their 2013 Signing Class. They had 4 scholarships due to Seniors graduating, 1 due to Franklin Axton's transfer, and 2 due to cutting players before the start of the 2012-13 season.

Coach Danny Carmichael brought in a stellar class for Gonzaga, as he was able to fill all 7 open scholarships. This 2013 Gonzaga class is rated as the #18 recruiting class in the country... Which is the highest rated recruiting class in the history of the basketball program.

The class consists of 4 4* players and 3 3* players. Only one of the 7 Gonzaga signees was a JUCO transfer.

In just two full recruiting classes, Coach Danny Carmichael has already significantly upgraded the talent and depth on the Bulldogs' roster.

When Carmichael got to Gonzaga, the roster consisted of two former 5 star players and the rest were 3 stars. Only one of the 3 stars was a Top 150 player coming out of High School... That one player is Vernon Lopez, who Carmichael helped secure a commitment from before his first season at Gonzaga.

With 2 full recruiting classes under his belt, Coach Carmichael has signed 6 4* players and 3 3* players. After this recruiting class, the Zags will now have 8 former Top 150 players on the squad.

Here is the list of the signees and the Top 25 Recruiting Rankings:
