Tovarich: Opposite of Vanderbilt. We finished strong and made it look lopsided when it was a pretty close game midway through the second half. If they just let that Almanson guy bomb a 3 on every possession, they'd probably have blown us out. It didn't help that I told people to stay tight on him and they left him wide open every possession.

Reporter: Do you think your team has any weaknesses?

Tovarich: Rebounding of course. Inconsistent 3-point shooting. We're far from perfect.

Reporter: Since Kentucky recently fell apart, Auburn is the next best team in the conference, so is this road game the toughest left on the schedule?

Tovarich: Maybe Kentucky's got an injury, we'll see. We finally go to Rupp for the first time since I got here. I still assume that'll be the toughest.

Tovarich: Good win. Good night from 3. Points in the paint were hard to come by. The interior defense was good. Maybe it's because they have an actual C. He's a FR, but most some SEC teams at least know what one is. Everyone contributed. Good all around team effort.

        Reporter: Are you bored coach?

        Tovarich: Quite.

Reporter: What can be done to challenge you?

Tovarich: Probably won't happen at a big school. I may need to go find a small school after the season somewhere to make things more interesting.

Reporter: So you're not coming back next year?

Tovarich: Probably not. We'll see what's out there. We lose 3 starters and 2 off the B team, so it would be a bit of a rebuild. Depends on what the other opportunities are.

Reporter: Don't you need to win a championship at this level?

Tovarich: I won one with a mid-major. There's some flukiness involved in the matchups and luck with who beats who else. I've well established I can win at this level even if it doesn't end in a championship this particular season.

Tovarich: Good performance. Solid rebounding. Points in the paint weren't easy for a second game in a row, but we shot very well from 3. We didn't force many turnovers, so it was surprising to be ahead by so much. Not sure why they're struggling like that. I don't see any major injuries for them, so 9-6 for that level of talent doesn't make sense.

Reporter: Why did you stand around for 30 seconds at the end of the game when you had a chance to run the score up on Kentucky?

Tovarich: I have nothing against Kentucky or Gillespie. Those kinds of situations are saved for my pal O'Bannon at Western Kentucky, or maybe FIU.

Reporter: Are you going to leave because we're a football school and even if you win a national championship, it's not as important to us as football?

Tovarich: Nope, just need a new challenge.

Tovarich: The dictionary might need a new definition of buzzsaw after our first half. Crazy. That made the second half feel like we were playing a 16 seed. I said a few weeks ago I think we might have gotten a record for turnovers without ever full court pressing, but I think we broke that one already.

              Reporter: Are there any negatives?

Tovarich: Always. 9 missed FT's. We were a tad sloppy with the ball in the second half. I know the B team got almost the entire second half, but still Hart is a SR. He should take care of the ball better. We got outrebounded.

Reporter: How do you keep the team focused when dominating?

Tovarich: We've had a lot of games we eeked out at the end. It's not all so easy. Those games can pop up anywhere. We're in the zone right now.

Reporter: When will the undefeated season possibility put some pressure on the team?

Tovarich: I imagine around the SEC tournament. We've not fared well there so far. I don't expect to make it that far though.

Tovarich: I don't know how we keep escaping. There should be some luck to it, but we may have some kind of skill at close games. We got outrebounded, grossly outshot, couldn't hit a 3. +19 in turnovers and 17 extra shots and we squeak by. Superman Mihailovic should have shot every possession, although it seemed like anyone he passed to was also going to score every time. Even the C was out there hitting a 3 on us because Mihilaovic' magic was still on the ball when he caught it.

Reporter: Are you sure someone will beat you?

Tovarich: It's getting hard to say that, but I still think so. This team's got guts and they keep calm down 10 in the second half. We had to get the press going for the first time in a month. I only remember getting a couple baskets off of it, but it kept them from getting shots a few times and that's just as good the way they were shooting. We had no business winning that, winning Texas Tech, Notre Dame. It's not always explicable how we got out of it, but we manage.

Reporter: Why do you think the other team always out-assists you?

Tovarich: We don't often get the assist against the press, because someone is usually driving it in. Kovacevic did a great job with that. I was sad when they stopped, which was quicker than usual. We like to get it down low, and they hang on to it for a few seconds and back down and get in for a shot, so I guess those don't get assists because they take too long to shoot, or move around too much after they catch the pass. Everyone else is usually jump shooting us to death.

Tovarich: I take it all back. We can't seem to lose. We apparently don't know how. That is definitely the unlikeliest win of my career. The Rebels up 5 with 6.6 to go and at the line for a double bonus should absolutely be a loss 100% of the time.

Reporter: Did you immediately know you had a chance when they missed both FT's?

Tovarich: I still had no expectations. I almost didn't foul when we missed our 3 with 6.6 to go and they grabbed the rebound. But instinctually, I figured we may as well try to the end. We finally get someone at the line other than their PG, who was 6/6 at the line. We kept up with some layups they practically gave us. But with that little time, a 3 was needed. Sanderson bricked it. Big surprise, as that made us 2/17. The PF I think is who grabbed the board and he missed both FT's.

Reporter: What was the strategy from there?

Tovarich: Instant timeout. We only lost .2, so 6.4 but an inbound pass from the side, rather than the delay it takes for a PF to get moving, a defender right in front of him, risk of a steal. They dropped all the defenders way back, so we could throw it out past midcourt without the clock moving. 2 steps, and Sanderson bafflingly nails to the 3. So, 3 seconds to go. We have the press set up. They try a long pass and throw it away. So, we have the ball under our own basket with 3 seconds all of a sudden. We inbound it to Sanderson outside the 3 point line, but even with his make right before, I had no faith in that. I was hoping one of the big guys would be open under the basket, but they weren't. Sanderson had to settle for a 15 foot jumper or so, and he nailed it and we head to OT.

Reporter: You're up 4 in OT. You waste time. Was that the wrong call?

Tovarich: They managed a couple stops, then got a couple baskets. We run the clock down to 40 or so, so we can have another possession if we need it. They end up stuffing us, but by the time they gain control, the shot clock is off. They had a 3 at the buzzer, and I just assume those are going in all the time. I was pleasantly surprised he managed to miss. Double OT, they basically did nothing. We ran away with it from there. Crazy stuff. We were on borrowed time in both OT's, no business winning that, like a few other games. I don't know what other kinda comebacks there are for these guys to complete that they haven't already the last two seasons.

Tovarich: We managed another Houdini. I don't know how many more times we can have things fall our way. It's bound to end somewhere. We were down 5 with about 2 minutes to go, and we missed all sorts of shots in the paint. We finally managed a 3 there and tied it up. We went 2 for 1 at the end, or so we thought. The steal ended up with us not being able to hold for the last shot. We couldn't score on either. Moody did a great job blocking their jumper at the buzzer. I'd hope the C would've missed from a foot or two inside the arc, but the way they shot most of the game, I can't say I'd have been surprised. Then in OT, we were comfortably ahead. We made 8/9 FT's there at the end to seal it. Another poor night of rebounding though. Another poor night of defense. We escaped, but a lot of things that won't get us a championship if we don't improve them.

Reporter: Would you prefer to lose a game somewhere?

Tovarich: It'd take some pressure off. I still think someone'll get us. You can't pull these things off forever. I can't help but feel we're due to have a bad night. The league is deep, but not elite. Alabama's top 5, but we don't go to their place of course. I don't know how Tennessee is unranked at 16-5. The RPI says we're #2 though. I think it's safe to say we'll lose in the SEC tournament for sure, which is fine. There's a reason it hasn't been done in forever.

Reporter: LSU has 3 C's on their roster, and the starter got 16 rebounds. Is an elite C the key to beating you?

Tovarich: Pitt had one last year and got us, partly because of that. If it's not something we can take advantage of like we could with virtually any ACC team, then we have to shoot 3's really well, and that's a less than 50-50 prospect. It can be done but if we have to rely on it, that might be our downfall. The opponent having a good center is definitely a far harder matchup.

Tovarich: Finally a drama-free win. I needed one of those after this last week. That first game against them my first season they killed us, and their offense hasn't done much against us since, not sure why. They made a little bit of a run in the second, but nothing concerning.

Reporter: How big is next week for recruiting?

Tovarich: It's our last week with one game, so we'll have to get a few visits scheduled at least. It's not easy to find time for anything during conference season.

Reporter: Kentucky is now on a win streak. Is that game harder than it seemed before?

Tovarich: We caught them at the right time the first go. Maybe they had some injuries, I'm not sure. This'll be our first time finally. I expect a battle.

Tovarich: Fun game. Reminds me of some of my Western Kentucky games against Louisiana Lafayette. Fast paced, lots of shots. Lots of made shots today. Misses were rare, defense was optional. First time I've had a player get a triple-double. I had no idea he was up at 9 assists, so we made sure to try our hardest there to get him a 10th and we got it with about 45 seconds left. He kicked it out nicely for some 3's to Sanderson and Horton, and they were kind enough to give him 2 assists on out of bounds throw-ins. I'm not sure if that's technically correct or not, but we'll take it.

Reporter: Are you rooting for Alabama to continue winning to possibly have another Game of the Century in 2 weeks?

Tovarich: I'll root against them specifically so I don't have to hear that phrase again. Leave it to football.

Reporter: Coach Gillispie joined the chorus of your opposing coaches complaining about free throw disparities. Do you think the refs are bias in your favor?

Tovarich: I think we're usually more aggressive than most of our opponents. Kentucky's 4 big guys only combined for 16 shots while ours had 35, so I think it's natural we got to the line more. We also had a big height advantage over their PF's. They have 2 C's, but they're young and both come off the bench and the PF's got in foul trouble trying to deal with people much bigger than them. I know their C's are so heralded and they're young, but maybe keeping people in their position would behoove coach.
