Re: Coach Tovarich 2.0 CH2K8 Career Legacy
Even though you're taking a break Tovarich, I wrote about this today for the front page just because it's def one of the funniest and most enjoyable dynasties to read through -- and we're right in the middle of March Madness.I won't ask for Christmas or birthday gifts if you subscribe to the Operation Sports Newsletter (Not Just Another Roster Update). I write it, and it hits your inbox every Friday morning (for freeeeeee). We also have an official OS Discord you can now join.Comment

We'll see you back again then! Definitely understand your mindset. This is a great game, but like all games, interest in it ebbs and flows. I've played it for years, but I've taken many breaks, sometimes short and sometimes for literally years.Comment

Re: Coach Tovarich 2.0 CH2K8 Career Legacy
Yeah, my motivation comes and goes with the actual sports seasons. I usually hold off on college basketball until around Christmas, but I only made it through 14 games of college football this year but I have nothing left for '14 anymore, so I started a good month and a half earlier than usual. I'm not sure I'm up for spending 600 or whatever on a PS5 and college football, so maybe I'll get going earlier than usual again next year.Comment

Re: Coach Tovarich 2.0 CH2K8 Career Legacy
Speaking of Morehead State, there was a great CH 2K7 legacy where a guy turned Morehead State into a powerhouse. It was in the 2K dynasty forums, which have sadly been taken down at this point, it seems. This was back in like 2007. But it was one of the first dynasties that got me into this stuff (the first dynasty I think I read here was the Aub’s excellent New York Vipers NCAA Football 07 dynasty). Someone linked the OS dynasty forum from over there.Comment

Re: Coach Tovarich 2.0 CH2K8 Career Legacy
Something happened to the PS3 over the summer where it froze and shut off and never could repair itself, so I had to format the whole thing. My last saved file is after I completed the prior season with Georgia that I had on a thumb drive for just such occasions. Since the scholarships were all awarded, there's no changes to my class. Also my C transfer from Dayton arrived all the same. The only difference is it seems Jolly #25, who I was never going to play so he would leave the team, appears to have already left the team before this season, so basically, nothing changes, unless it turns out that I would have eventually needed him due to injury. I had a scholarship available that I didn't have the first time, so I didn't attempt to use it to keep things the same.
The coaching carousel had some differences. Bob Huggins no longer retired, Tim Floyd now retired from USC who hired Winthrop coach. George Mason coach took over Syracuse instead of Georgia because now Stu Morrill retired, so my replacement at Georgia was my buddy O'Bannon...who replaced me at Western Kentucky, who was my favorite coach at Denver originally. Two AD's in a row really sticking it to me by hiring that clown. For the most part, everything else went the same.
So, I was going to replay these 5 games to make sure that Jolly didn't play so he would leave but that took care of itself already. So I've re-simmed the 5 and I am 2-3 like I should be. The stats aren't perfect and recruiting isn't going to work out exactly the same, but things are as close as could reasonably be expected and I'll be able to pick up where I left off pretty soon here.Comment

Reporter: Were you surprised?
Tovarich: Very. I was wondering if someone turned the difficulty down. The other possibility is they're just 0-7 for a reason. I'll have to look into that.
They looked amazing up 17-6 early and then they couldn't do much after that. They never stopped pressing and we did a great job against that, especially when we got their "center" in foul trouble.
Reporter: Jolly is no longer on the roster. What happened to him?
Tovarich: Which one was he?
Reporter: The one you never let play.
Tovarich: Oh, yeah. I think he decided to pursue some other opportunities outside of basketball that are more suited for his skills, such as they are. I don't think anyone will notice except we'll all have a little more personal space on the bench.
Reporter: How is recruiting going?
Tovarich: Oh, good, thank you. I was wondering if you were going to keep asking questions about all these games instead of what matters. I don't expect to sign anyone in the in-season window. We've only offered 2 of our 6 scholarships. We're waiting to see who all slips through without an offer for the most part. We don't have the resources to be wrong, so we're trying to save up our travel budget for when we've got a better idea of who we can get. We can't be wrong and waste resources.Comment

Tovarich: Questions?
Reporter: Will playing a big opponent like this make you better for conference play?
Tovarich: I'm not sure. Conference play is not something I'm worried about this season.
Reporter: But you need to be in the top 8 to make the conference tournament.
Tovarich: The conference tournament is not high on my list of goals for this season.
Reporter: Don't you want to win?
Tovarich: Winning is not really a priority this season. Scores, standings, records. You guys aren't seeing the bigger picture.
Reporter: You said you were going to turn these guys into winners.
Tovarich: I said I'd turn Morehead State into winners....as soon as I recruit some winners.Comment

Tovarich: (sits silently looking upset)
Reporter: Was that a tough loss coach?
Tovarich: No, why would it be?
Reporter: Because you came back from double digits down and had a lead and they beat you with 3.3 seconds to go and then you missed the winning 3 at the buzzer?
Tovarich: I'm not concerned about that.
Reporter: Because that was a conference game?
Tovarich: It was?
Reporter: Don't you know who's in your conference?
Tovarich: Not yet, really. I remember there was Samford and everyone else. I'm not concerned about who the everyone else is, just how to get us out of the everyone else level into Samford's level.
Reporter: So, what is it?
Tovarich: Had to give up on 4 recruits and start looking for more.
Reporter: So why did you give Atako the last shot at the buzzer when he was 1/10 on 3's?
Tovarich: He's supposed to be the best 3-point shooter on the team. I thought we were done with questions about this game and moved on to recruiting talk.
Reporter: You're sure you don't care about losing a conference game?
Tovarich: Yeah, who is and isn't a conference game is not relevant to the long-term success of the program right now. We have to be better to concern ourselves with such things.
Reporter: So, what is the point of the games?
Tovarich: I have 6 scholarships I hope to use, we have the C from Dayton that can play next year. Crenshaw is the backup center next year, so we hopefully develop him into a quality backup center. That's 8 guys. Two more are needed for the B team. So, Atako hopefully steps up and earns some minutes. Today didn't help. Maybe Gomes or Ravello earn a spot.
Reporter: What about Crosswhite?
Tovarich: I'd prefer he transfer...maybe transfer isn't the right word, because we're the worst team in America, and if you can't play here, you can't play anywhere else. Maybe Toccoa Falls, or one of those bible colleges people like to play for some reason can use him.
Reporter: But coach
Tovarich: Yeah, I know, technically the ratings say there's 2 teams worse, but I think our C from Dayton is contributing to the ratings, but he can't play, so based on what's available, I am pretty sure we're the worst team.
Reporter: You were the worst team in America with Eastern Shore and you did ok.
Tovarich: We had a really nice guard Tyson who could take over a game against our fellow cupcakes in conference and Krleski who could shoot 3's far better than anyone on this roster. We are mostly Crenshaw and that's about it.Comment

Reporter: What are you afraid of then coach?

Tovarich: (sighs)
Reporter: What's wrong coach? You won.
Tovarich: Oh, so what?
Reporter: It's a conference win.
Tovarich: Yeah, we were at home against the one team in the conference that was supposedly worse than us. By definition, it's the easiest game of the entire season. If we didn't win that, one, we may as well hope some global pandemic comes along and cancels the rest of the season.
Reporter: So what's bothering you?
Tovarich: Take a guess.
Reporter: Oh, recruiting.
Tovarich: Yeah, it's the worst couple weeks of the season in terms of recruiting. The two weeks after the in-season window ends, everyone has scholarships galore because they offered to people who went elsewhere and they start offering them to more realistic recruits and it trickles down and destroys my already ten times over destroyed recruiting board.
Reporter: Uh, ok, coach. Take us through the rest of the schedule this season and what you think you can accomplish.
Tovarich: Great question. We have the tournament next week, so just one game for now. I can cram in a visit or two maybe. Then we're swamped with 12 games in 5 weeks, so two of those weeks I literally have zero recruiting time and barely any all these other weeks like this week with two games. We have one more week late in the season with just one game and a whole week off the second to last week of recruiting, so those two will be crucial to making some progress with recruits and getting visits to campus in. I'm trying to save up enough resources for those two weeks.
Reporter: I meant the games and the results and what you could accomplish record-wise.
Tovarich: I know you did.Comment

Tovarich: (looks around waiting for questions)
Reporter: That was nice of you to slow the game down in the second half so you didn't run up the score coach.
Tovarich: Huh? Oh.....yes.....right. That's absolutely what was going on there, just like Tracy Wolfson has said 500,000 times.
Reporter: Uhhh, so what was it coach?
Tovarich: Just trying to keep the 9 guys fresh.
Reporter: Why just 9?
Tovarich: So I don't have to play Crosswhite.
Reporter: He's played every game until now. Why the change?
Tovarich: He's way too happy with his 6-7 minutes a game and he'll never transfer at this rate.
Reporter: So you'd like him to transfer?
Tovarich: It would be like Christmas in April if I could free up that scholarship and get someone else in here for next season instead of having to wait.
Reporter: So, what's the recruiting plan then coach?
Tovarich: Just find players. We are looking everywhere. We're searching the deep dark hills out here in Eastern Kentucky. We're watching grainy camcorder footage of some kid in Montenegro, although that just leaves a lot of question marks because it's hard to deduct much from it. I just need anyone with something resembling skills. We've cycled through a solid 100 players on this recruiting board if I had to guess. We'll keep sifting to see who falls through.Comment
