A-Rod's 10th Inning Solo Home Run Gives Mets 4-3 Win

I don't have a recap for this one or a box score as I'm tired as hell, so I'll just leave the winning/losing pitchers.

      WP- Jorge Julio (1-0)
      LP- Clay Hensley (1-1)
      S- Billy Wagner (6)

        Mets Suffer a Major Loss

New York (AP)- The Mets suffered a major loss today as Carlos Delgado has been placed on the 60 day disabled list with a torn hamstring. The injury was suffered before the previous game against the Padres. He is expected to miss 2 to 3 months. The Mets are expected to either have Julio Franco be the full-time starter at 1st base, or look to acquire veteran help via trade.

          Mets Acquire a Fill-In

New York (AP)- The Mets have acquired a 1st baseman to platoon with Julio Franco in the absence of Carlos Delgado over the course of the next 2-3 months. Shortstop Cesar Izturis has been sent to the Red Sox for First Baseman Hee-Seop Choi. Choi is a 26 year old left handed 1st baseman who hails from South Korea. He is a career .240 hitter and appeared in 133 games last season for the Dodgers hitting .253 with 15 HRs and 42 RBIs.

"We realize we had just acquired Izturis a short time ago as a defensive shortstop to help backup two positions for us, but due to this recent injury to Carlos Delgado we had to make a move. Franco is a solid player but in all honesty he's too old to play every day at age 47. For now Choi will get the start against right handed pitching, and Franco will spell him every few games and also against left handed pitching."

Mets Outdueled in 12 Innings, Fall 2-1

San Francisco (AP)- The New York Mets dropped a tough one in San Francisco tonight falling on a 2 out hit by Omar Vizquel in the bottom of the 12th inning. After Lance Niekro reached on a single, Mets reliever Aaron Sele walked Randy Winn putting runners on 1st and 2nd with 2 outs. The Giants pinch ran for for Niekro with Jason Ellison which ultimately provided to be the important substitution. Omar Vizquel lined a 3-2 single into right field, and being that it was 2 outs the runners were moving on the pitch. Regardless, Nady got it to quickly and had a good shot at getting Ellison at the plate, but the throw was airmailed and Ellison scored the game winning run.

New York (AP)- It took 22 games for the 23-year-old David Wright to finally hit his first home run of the 2006 season. Wright hit 27 home runs last year. Following a Julio Franco single Giants starter Noah Lowry was pulled with 2 outs in the inning after having thrown 101 pitches. Mets Acquire a Trio of Veterans

New York (AP)- It has been announced today that the Mets have struck a deal with the St. Louis Cardinals. Jason Marquis, a veteran sinker baller was placed on the trade block by the Cardinals and the Mets wasted no time in contacting the Cardinals organization. The two teams have agreed to a deal in which:

                            Cardinals Get:
                            SP- Brian Bannister
                            OF- Victor Diaz
                            IF- Anderson Hernandez

                            Mets Get:
                            SP- Jason Marquis
                            OF- So Taguchi
                            IF- Scott Spiezio

Marquis, like Bannister, has struggled in the earlygoing getting off to a 1-2 start with a 6.96 ERA but the Mets are confident that he will come around. Anderson was tough to give up as he has a lot of potential and should be an excellent defensive infielder for the Cardinals and Bannister has a lot of potential to be a #3 starter in the Cardinals rotation. The Mets acquired Taguchi for his speed off the bench as AH was previously their speed man. Marquis will move into the #3 spot in the rotation and will make his first appearance against the Pirates on May 3rd.

A-Rod Goes 5 for 5 in Mets Come From Behind Win, 7-6

Atlanta (AP)- The Mets came behind from a 5-0 deficit through 5 innings to come out on top over their division rival Atlanta Braves. David Wright homered in his 3rd consecutive game, a 3 run homer, in the top of the 6th to pull the Mets within 2. Then in the top of the 7th the Mets would tie it up with the bases loaded for Bernie Williams. Williams hit a fly ball to left center that Andruw Jones misplayed for an error, so instead of getting a sac fly he got an error out of it and and there was a force out at 2nd base. So Taguchi drove in the tying run on a sacrifice fly. The Mets would take the lead in the top of the 8th on RBI hits by Alex Rodriguez and Paul Lo Duca, both on doubles. Duaner Sanchez gave up his 1st run of the season in relief in the 8th to pull the Braves within 1 but it wouldn't be enough as Wagner once again shut the door for his 9th save of the season.
