Mets Acquire Former Cy Young Winner

New York (AP) On the off-day on Monday May 22nd it was announced that Barry Zito has been acquired from the Oakland Athletics for Mets #1 prospect Lastings Milledge. Lastings is a 5-tool-player and is going to be a very good player in the future, but the Mets seem to be in the mindset that they want to win now. Manager/GM Lanteri also has expressed his deepest discontent with pitcher Victor Zambrano and felt the need to replace him in the rotation ASAP. Barry Zito was 3-2 with a 5.68 ERA and 39 Ks in 9 starts for the Oakland Athletics. He will start Tuesday's game against Gavin Floyd and the Phillies.

the public wants to know if Zito agreed to sign with the Mets after the season - he is a FA , keep it coming - nice job with the updates

Oddly enough on the game it says he's in year 3/4 so he might have another year left on his contract. However, I do have every intention of resiging him.

New York (AP)- Xavier Nady flashed some leather tonight saving the Mets 4-3 lead in the 8th inning with a spectacular diving catch with a runner on 3rd. Chase Utley drove a pitch into the right center field gap and Nady laid out and robbed it preventing the run from scoring from 3rd. Wagner would finish the game in the 9th picking up his 5th save. Pedro improved to 5-4 going 7 innings, giving up 3 runs on 7 hits and fanning 5 Phillies hitters.

                Haha.

Well, the Braves are currently 29-19 and in 1st place in the division ahead of us and the Phillies by 4 games.

                  3-Team Trade Announced

                  Mets Receive:
                  1B- Nomar Garciaparra
                  RP- Kiko Calero

                  A's Receive:
                  SP- Victor Zambrano
                  1B- Hee-Seop Choi

                  Dodgers Receive:
                  1B- Dan Johnson

I'm a huge Nomar fan and I noticed that Nomar has been sitting on the inactive roster all season without an injury so I decided to pull the trigger and acquire him. I figured since Delgado is out 1-2 months still and Nomar probably will only be able to play that long before getting hurt again, it works out. The A's get a pitcher to replace Zito, and can always play Swisher at 1B as they now have Milledge in the outfield. The Dodgers had nomar inactive so they'll keep doing what they were doing.

Nomar Homers in Mets Debut, Mets Win 5-3

New York (AP)- With the Mets trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the 5th after a 2 run homer by Pat Burrell, newcomer Nomar Garciaparra would step up to the plate with 2 outs and runners on the corners. Myers would start him with a 97 mph fastball which Nomar whiffed at. Myers decided he'd try to sneak another fastball in there on the inside half and Nomar launched over the 396 sign into the bleachers to give the Mets a 4-3 lead. the Mets would add an insurance run in the 6th on back to back doubles by Wright and Castro. Tom Glavine improved to 6-4 with the win, and Billy Wagner picked up his 16th save, fanning 2 batters in the process. Brett Myers fell to 4-3 with the loss.

Baserunning Error Costs the Mets, Webb Dominant in 1-0 Win

New York (AP)- Brandon Webb dominated on the night as the Mets offense struggled once again, getting shutout for the 2nd night in a row. Webb improved to 7-3 on the season pitching a complete game giving up just 6 hits, walking 1 and fanning 8 Mets hitters. A key baserunning mistake in the 9th cost the Mets one of their only scoring opportunities. Nady walked with 1 out in the 9th. Nomar would come up and lace a double down the left field line that got all the way to the wall. The 3rd base coach sent Nady as he tried to score from 1st and was gunned down at the plate costing the chance at tying the game up at 1-1. Pedro Martinez fell to 5-5 on the season despite giving up just 1 run on 5 hits over 6 innings. He Kd 5 and walked 3. Julio and Calero combined for 3 innings of scoreless work.

                              Mets Drop 4th Straight, 4-2

New York (AP)- The Mets were 2 feet away from a victory tonight as they dropped their 4th straight, this time to the Russ Ortiz-led D'Backs. The Mets got off to a decent start early on scratching across 2 runs on 6 hits through the first two innings, but were kept in check the rest of the way as Russ Ortiz pitched 8 strong innings giving up 2 runs on 8 hits, striking out 4. Reliever Jose Valverde had a tough time closing the game out as the D'Backs 4-2 lead shrank to a 4-3 lead after he gave up 4 hits in the inning. With the bases loaded and 2 outs Jose Reyes would swing at the first pitch, a fastball left belt high on the inside half and drive it to deep right. It looked like it had a chance but it was caught up against the 396 sign in front of the scoreboard to end the ballgame. Glavine fell to 6-5 on the season with the loss.
