May 2nd: Washington Nationals (11-16) @ New York Mets (14-12)

Erstad Hits First Homer of the Year, Mets Win 5-3

New York (AP)- The Mets split the 2 game series with the Nationals winning by a score of 5-3. The Mets got off to a fast start scoring 2 runs in both the 1st and 2nd innings. David Wright picked up his 22nd RBI, Franco his 4th, and Erstad drove in 2 for his 8th and 9th RBIs of the season. The Nationals tried to mount a comeback in the 6th, scoring 3 runs on a 2 RBI triple by Soriano, who also scored as the throw was off-line to 3rd base but for some reason no error was charged. Tony Armas Jr. left the game in the 3rd inning for the Nationals with an injury of some sort. Tom Glavine improved his record to 4-2 on the year, with a 4.03 ERA. Julio, Ring, and Sanchez all pitched srong in releif and Wagner fanned 2 in the 9th to close out the ballgame for his 10th save of the season.

May 3rd: Pittsburgh Pirates (7-21) @ New York Mets (15-12)

Nady's Heroics Aren't Enough as Mets Fall 4-3

New York (AP)- The Mets were trailing 3-1 heading into the bottom of the 7th and it looked like Paul Maholm would just cruise his way to victory. Then with a 1-2 count and Reyes on first, who reached on an infield single, Xavier Nady took a Maholm fastball and ripped it to the left of the left center field bleacers into the picnic area for a 2 run home run to tie the score up at 3-3. Heath Bell would pitch a scoreless top of the 8th inning. Then in the bottom of the 8th David Wright would reach base on an error by Jack Wilson and after a passed ball found himself standing on 2nd. Franco did his job and hit a ball to the right side to move Wright to 3rd with one out. However, neither Castro or Erstad could put the ball in play and he was left stranded. In the top of the 9th the Mets elected to stay with reliever Heath Bell. Bell gave up a leadoff double to Doumit in the 9th, who was moved to 3rd on a sacrifice by Duffy, to put him on 3rd with 2 outs. Bell would work a full count to the batter Jack Wilson, who finally singled into center field to score the run and put the Pirates up 4-3. Gonzalez would come in, in the bottom of the 9th and shut the door on the Mets, giving the Pirates the 4-3 victory.

Jason Marquis struggled in his Mets debut giving up 3 runs on 10 hits, walking 4 and striking out 3 over 6 2/3 IP. Bell was saddled with the loss.

Another Met Heads to the DL

New York (AP)- In a report out of the Mets clubhouse, LF Bernie Williams has been placed on the 15-day-DL with a concussion sustained during today's game. He is expected to miss 3-4 weeks.

OF Endy Chavez has been called up to fill the empty roster spot. Taguchi or Valentin are to be the likely starters in LF in Bernie's absence.

Update from when I was moving.

Glavine and Zambrano lost to the Braves, both by a score of 7-4.

I do have 1 game recap, from the 2nd game, which I'll post shortly.

Pedro Fans 14 Braves, in CG 1 hit Shutout, 200th Career Win

New York (AP) The Atlanta Braves were held hitless for 26 out of 28 total batters on the evening, before finally with 1 out in the 9th, pinch hitter Brian Jordan laced a double just inside the 1st base line to break up the no-no. Pedro had gotten hosed on a 3-2 pitch earlier in the evening on a pitch that clearly got the outside half of the plate in the strike zone, but was called ball 4 which would have kept the perfecto hopes alive. However, in the dominant performance Pedro fanned 14 Braves batters, and picked up his 200th career victory in style.

A-Rod drove in all 5 of the Mets runs, on 2 home runs and an RBI double.

Howard Delivers Game Winning Single, Phils Top Mets 7-6

Philadelphia (AP)- In what was a back and forth battle through the last 4 innings, the Phils managed to come away with a victory in what was a shoddy umpiring job that totally enraged the New York Mets manager. With the bases loaded and 1 out in the 9th, trailing by 1, the Mets turned elected to pinch hit for Endy Chavez with Darin Erstad. Erstad delivered with an RBI hit that squeaked through the infield, scoring 1 run. The 2nd run was hustling around and clearly beat the throw at the plate, but the umpire punched him out and the game went into the 9th tied at 6-6. The Phils would get a runner at 2nd base on a Pat Burrell double off of Julio with 1 out. Ryan Howard would then single into center field, and Darin Erstad would make a perfect throw to the plate that looked clearly like the tag was down before Burrell could score but the Phillies umpires ruled him safe at the plate, ending the game on a terrible call and giving the Phils the 7-6 victory. Tom Gordon, who blew the save in the 9th, would get credit for the win, while Duaner Sanchez picked up a blown save, and Julio picked up the loss.

May 10th: New York Mets (17-16) @ Philadelphia Phillies (16-17)

Wagner Bails Mets Out in 3-1 Victory

Philly (AP)- Mets closer Billy Wagner saved the day big time for the New York Mets here tonight as Heilman got himself into something serious of a jam. Heilman would load the bases up with nobody out in the 8th, and the Mets who used both their setup men last night and both threw a lot of pitches, had no one as reliable as the two to turn to so the manager went to Billy Wagner. Wagner would strike out the side to end the inning in the 8th leaving the bases loaded. The Mets would add an insurance run in the top of the 9th and Wagner would pick up the save. Aaron Heilman improved to 4-0 on the season pitching 7 innings and giving up 1 run on 7 hits, striking out 8. Madson picked up his first loss of the season going 6.2 IP getting touched up for 2 runs on 11 hits and 4 Ks.

                              WP- Pedro Martinez (4-3)

No stats cause I played this yesterday afternoon and had to leave in a hurry.

                                May 13th

                                Mets won 8-0.

Simmed this because the CPU for whatever reason spot started Jose Capellan and subbed him out after 2 at bats, and I didn't feel like playing a parade of relief pitchers.

                                WP- Glavine (5-3)
                                LP- Capellan (1-3)
