    Re: Madden 2004: Goldmine

Sounds like a good trade. The Garcia situation sounds tough, my only though would be how much worse is Wallace then Garcia? If Wallace isn't that bad maybe you could release Garcia, but if Garcia is significantly better maybe it would be best to negotiate.

BTW- You could bump up the sliders for a few games to see how it feels, and could always change them back if its to tough.

    Great Dynasty

Hey, thanks for the compliments and response, karlos!

Ratings-wise, Garcia is around I believe a 96 and Wallace upper 70's. But as far as I am able to play with them, Wallace isn't too bad and I feel he gives me just as much a chance at winning as Garcia. The thing is, Garcia has two years left on his contract, he's old, and I don't have the cap space to deal with him now and I don't know if I'll even want him in the offseason whether I can afford it or not.

Actually, I'm expecting him to lose a big part of his rating from being inactive all year and maybe even retire at the end of the year. Oh well... it's his choice.

As for the trade, I too think it was fair. Beasley only has a couple of years left, but his rating was around 91 or 92 and Detroit's starting FB before the trade was like a 68.

Week 4: San Francisco (3-0) at Los Angeles (2-1)
Could the 49ers complete the sweep of the Sharks this season the way LA had done to the Niners the previous season?

            1st Quarter
On the opening drive of the game, San Francisco managed to get to the 35 of the Sharks. Then the following events happened: sack, fumble recovered by an offensive lineman, and an incomplete pass. They had to punt the ball away. The 49ers then forced a punt from Arizona. Drew Jones bobbled and fumbled the return at the SF 25, leading to Bill Gramatica's 41-yard field goal to give Los Angeles an early 3-0 lead.

            2nd Quarter
The 49ers drove to midfield and found themselves in a 4th & 1 situation. Being aggressive, Erickson gave the offense the nod but Seneca Wallace came up short. After the Niner defense yielded 17 yards, Gramatica launched a 50-yard field goal attempt. The ball hit the crossbar and bounced over to make it 6-0 Sharks. Bad luck continued as the 49ers found themselves inside LA's 10, but Wallace had a pass intercepted on the goaline. The Sharks were driving for another score when Zack Bronson intercepted Chris Young at the San Francisco 30. The Niners finally put all the pieces together and in the end, Barlow sped around the outside and dove over a tackler for a 13-yard touchdown to give the 49ers a narrow 7-6 lead with just over 2 minutes in the half. Young threw another bad pass, this time intercepted by Julian Peterson, who returned it to LA's 5. This led to an 18-yard field goal by Jeff Chandler and SF owned a small 10-6 lead at the half.

            3rd Quarter
On LA's opening drive of the second half, they ate up 6 minutes of the clock and in the end, Chris Young found Bryant Johnson alone in the back of the endzone for a 5-yard score to put the Sharks back on top 13-10. After a punt by the Niners, Derek Smith intercepted Young at LA's 12. This led to a 2-yard run by Barlow, and the lead changed once again as San Francisco went ahead 17-13.

            4th Quarter
An early field goal by Gramatica made it 17-16. On the next drive of San Francisco, Erickson went for it all... and it paid off. Wallace dropped back and hit the speedy rookie wideout Donald Evans who took off for a 67-yard score. This gave the 49ers a little breathing room at 24-16. With just under two minutes left, Andrew Williams recovered an LA fumble at midfield. Good thing for the Sharks they had all their timeouts as they were able to hold on and get the ball back with 56 seconds left. After completing 7 yard pass on second down, they failed to do so again on the drive, failing on 4th & 3 and ending any sort of comeback attempt.

FINAL: SF sweeps LA, surviving 24-16!

            Player of the Game
QB Seneca Wallace - 93.4, 15/23, 224 yards, TD, INT

            Key Performances

WR (R) Donald Evans - 2 rec, 74 yards, TD

            San Francisco 49ers: 4-0

Week 5: San Francisco (4-0) at Oakland (0-3)
Was Oakland better than their record showed? In a word... no.

                  1st Quarter
Oakland got off to a great start when, on the second play of the game, one-year QB Mario Dudley launched a deep ball to Jerry Porter who was behind Ahmed Plummer. He caught the ball and was gone for a 72-yard score. San Francisco answered back with a nice drive of their own. It ended when Wallace threw the ball to Barlow in the flats who took it in for the 11-yard touchdown to tie the game at seven. Dudley was intercepted by Derek Smith at the Raiders 25, setting up a 6-yard pass from Wallace to Owens to put the Niners on top 14-7.

                  2nd Quarter
Early in the quarter, Barlow tacked on a 14-yard run. After forcing a punt, Drew Jones for the second straight week fumbled away the return to the opponent. This made way for a 33-yard field goal compliments of Janikowski and we had ourselves a 21-10 game going into the half.

                  3rd Quarter
The Raiders offensive struggles continued, just as Barlow's offensive success kept up. He got into the endzone again, this time from 3 yards out as San Francisco added to their lead.

                  4th Quarter
The Niners weren't done as Wallace found Brandon Lloyd for an 8-yard score to give San Fran a 25-point lead, none of which was relinquished.

FINAL: San Francisco cruises in and out of Oakland with 35-10 victory!

                  Player of the Game
                  QB Seneca Wallace - 142.5, 21/27, 252 yards, 3 TD

                  Key Performances
                  RB Kevan Barlow - 26 att, 109 yards, 2 TD - 1 rec, 11 yards, TD
WR Terrell Owens - 8 rec, 112 yards, TD
DT Thomas Edwards - 2 tackles, 2 sacks

Week 6: San Francisco (5-0) at Kansas City (0-4)

                        1st Quarter
San Francisco got the ball first but failed to score when a 45-yard field goal attempt by Jeff Chandler hooked wide right. The Chiefs didn't fair too well with their third string QB, Kelly Holcomb, filling in for their two other injured QBs. They were forced to punt, and they ended up downing the ball at the SF 8. San Francisco went on an 11-play, 92-yard, 6:22 drive. The first ten plays only took them 42 yards, and on the eleventh play, Wallace connected with Randle El who outran defenders en route to a 50-yard score.

                        2nd Quarter
Kansas City made it 7-3 with a field goal, and Chandler upped the score to 10-3 with a field goal of his own. After forcing a punt from Kansas City, Drew Jones almost broke one but was tackled at the KC 23. This gave the Niners a super-short field and they took advantage as Barlow charged in from the 9 yard line to increase the lead to 17-3. Kansas City got back into it just before the half with a 25-yard pass from Holcomb to TE Tony Gonzalez.

                        3rd Quarter
On the opening drive of the half, Kansas City added a field goal and the score was quickly 17-13. Later they tried a 51-yarder, but the attempt fell short. San Francisco's offense was stale in the third quarter and failed to produce any more points.

                        4th Quarter
San Francisco's scoring struggle was short-lived as Owens caught a 7 yard out from Wallace to make it 24-13. A 4-yard run by Barlow later in the quarter upped it to 31-13. San Francisco felt confident with the lead, but only for a short time as Dante Hall took a kickoff 94 yards. Priest Holmes' 2-point conversion put KC back in the game with the score 31-21. The Chiefs even managed to recover the onside kick, but Holmcomb fumbled at the Kansas City 36 and the Niners were able to run out the time.

FINAL: San Francisco survives 31-21 scare from KC.

Week 7: Rams (4-1) at San Francisco (6-0)
This heated rivalry called for something special. That something was Fan Appreciation Day, as most fans received complimentary miniature NFL helmets.

                              1st Quarter
On the opening drive, San Francisco managed to draw first blood after FB Phillip Crosby trucked into the endzone from two yards away. The Rams offense started off stagnant and they were unable to put any points on the board in the first quarter. A 38-yard field goal from Chandler made it 10-0.

                              2nd Quarter
Kurt Warner dropped back and threw a pass to Bruce... but he did not see CB Drew Jones who intercepted the ball and returned it to the St. Louis 5 yard line. This set up a 5-yard run by Kevan Barlow and the Niners had a 17-0 lead. The Rams made it to the 49ers 36, but a 53-yard attempt by Jeff Wilkins came up just short. Likewise, when Chandler attempted one from 51 yards, he too came up short.

                              3rd Quarter
The Rams finally got onto the board on their opening drive of the new half after Marshall Faulk ran in from the 8 yard line to end a nice, 9-play drive. The wind was taken directly out of St. Louis' sails on the kickoff, however, when Drew Jones returned it 87 yards for the touchdown. Later, a 39-yard Wilkins field goal made it 24-10.

                              4th Quarter
Warner was going back to pass from LE Andrew Williams hit his arm, causing a fumble. The ball bounced back to the Rams 5 before being scooped up by Andre Carter and taken in to add to the Niners lead and make it 31-10. St. Louis' passing game quickly got them within San Francisco's 5. On 4th & Goal from the 6, Faulk made a reception and was ruled in for the TD! But a challenge from Dennis Erickson allowed the refs to take another look and they determined Faulk was down at the inch line. This kept the score at 31-10. That is, until the Rams next drive when Kurt Warner found WR Shaun McDonald for an 11-yard score but at 31-17, the game was already over.
