    Re: Madden 2004: Goldmine

    Week 6: Jacksonville (1-4) @ San Francisco (3-1) - MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL

    1st Quarter
On the opening drive of the game, Jacksonville's offense sputtered quickly and they had to punt it away. This was basically an example of how they would play the rest of the game. As for the 49ers, they found the endzone on their first drive of the game when Garcia found Brandon Lloyd for a 5-yard score.

    2nd Quarter
The tide almost turned in Jacksonvilles favor when Bryant got ahold of one of Garcia's passes and returned it all the way to tie the game at 7. Garcia even threw two more consecutive interceptions, but remained in the game. The San Francisco held strong and allowed 0 points off of those turnovers. With just over two minutes to play, Garcia rocketed a pass to Owens who took it and broke a few tackles en route to a 27-yard score. It was 14-7 at the half.

    3rd Quarter
The only action this quarter saw besides on the defensive side of the ball was Barlow punching it from the 2.

    4th Quarter
Garcia threw two more touchdowns, one to Eric Johnson and another to Brandon Lloyd as the 49ers continued to steamroll the Jaguars.

Final: SF looks good on Monday night winning 35-7.

    Key Performances
    QB Jeff Garcia - 91.6, 18/31, 306 yards, 4 TD, 4 INT
    RB Kevan Barlow - 31 att, 133 yards, TD - 2 rec, 44 yards
WR Terrell Owens - 6 rec, 140 yards, TD
WR Brandon Lloyd - 4 rec, 34 yards, 2 TD

    San Francisco 49ers: 4-1

    Next Game: vs Redskins (4-2)

      Week 7: Washington (4-2) @ San Francisco (4-1)

      1st Quarter
San Francisco got the ball first but were unproductive as a harsh Washington defense forced a 3 & out. A special note from that drive: Bryant Young, released by the Niners and picked up by the Skins in the offseason, recorded a key sack on 2nd down. Later in the quarter, after stopping Washington, San Francisco was able to put some points on the board and grab a 7-0 lead following a 27-yard pass from Garcia to TE Eric Johnson.

      2nd Quarter
The 49ers added two more scores in the second quarter on passes to Lloyd and Owens for 6 yards and 19 yards, respectively. This gave them a comfortable 21-0 lead. However, on Washington's next punt, Drew Jones fumbled and Washington recovered and ran all the way to make it 21-7.

      3rd Quarter
Both defenses forced punts and the Redskins offense finally started ticking a little bit. They were unable to find the endzone, however, and had to settle for a 32-yard John Hall field goal to put the score at 21-10.

      4th Quarter
The Skins offense continued what it started on the last drive and this time finished it off effectively. Patrick Ramsey threw lofted one 16-yards to Lavernaeus Coles who snagged it. After a failed 2-point conversion, the score was 21-16. Chandler added some comfort with a 44-yard field goal. It made no difference to Washington, however, as they were at the 1 yard line of San Fran in what was seemingly a few moments. Ramsey dropped back and tossed it up to Rod Gardner in the back of the endzone. Rookie HB Todd Nash punched in the two point conversion to tie the game at 24. With 1:17 left, the Niners' heart dropped as Champ Bailey intercepted Jeff Garcia at the SF 38. On the next play, however, Peter Boulware picked it back up with an interception of his own. Not only did he intercept it, but he had some wide open field to work with and easily made it within Washington's 10 yard line. In the end, with just 17 ticks left on the clock, Beasley busted it through the middle for three yards to seal the deal at 31-24.

      Final: San Francisco escapes 31-24!

      Key Performances
      QB Jeff Garcia - 74.4, 16/32, 196 yards, 3 TD, 2 INT
RB Kevan Barlow - 20 att, 107 yards
WR Terrell Owens - 7 rec, 113 yards, TD

      San Francisco 49ers: 5-1

      Next Game: @ Cardinals (5-1)

Week 8: San Francisco (5-1) at Arizona (5-1)
The Niners came into 'Zona looking for some revenge for earlier in the season. This game was wrapped up at the half.

            1st Quarter
The last game, Arizona's starting HB Lamar Reed, with 1 year of experience, was injured. He was in full force this game. On the opening drive, the Cardinals received the ball and on the first play, Reed ran over three defenders on his way to a 77-yard score. The 49ers answered back with an 8-play drive that finished with Garcia finding Owens for a 38-yard touchdown to tie the game at 7. After forcing Arizona to punt, San Francisco seemed to be in business. Well, until Garcia was picked off and the ball was returned to the 49ers 14. One play later, Arizona's lead was restored 14-7 with a 14-yard pass to Bryant Johnson.

            2nd Quarter
Wildest... quarter... ever. It began with Jeff Garcia being intercepted at midfield. Two plays later, Lamar Reed busted through again, this time for a 46-yard scamper to make it 21-7. The fans in Zona were going crazy. On the next drive, San Francisco drove a little ways, earning two first downs before Garcia did it again. Duane Starks timed it perfectly and intercepted Garcia's pass with plenty of open field to work with. He returned it all of 60 yards to suddenly put the score at 28-7... in favor of the Cards. The very next play Garcia was picked off for the FOURTH time and Arizona made it back to the 4 of San Francisco. One play later and Reed had his third rushing touchdown of the day, and the score was at 35-7. At this point, Erickson had seen more than enough and pulled Garcia in favor of Ken Dorsey. Dorsey led them down the field to the 2 yard line before handing the ball to Kevan Barlow who dove in for the score. Arizona got the ball back and continued to eat up the Niners. They looked like they would score again, but Drew Jones intercepted Chris Young and ran 65 yards for a touchdown of his own to make it 35-21. Just before the half, Gramatica added a 33-yard field goal and it was 38-21.

            3rd Quarter
San Francisco got the ball first but the offense could not get clicking. Eventually they had to punt, and Adrian Wilson brought it back all of 76 yards to give Zona an incredible 45-21 lead.

            4th Quarter
San Francisco's offense continued to struggle but they somehow held onto the ball for the better part of the quarter. In the last half of the quarter, Chris Young completed a 40 yard pass to Jason McAddley to get Arizona to the 10 yard line. On the next play they got greedy and Young's pass was intercepted by Webster who ran 98 yards to paydirt for San Fran's second INT return of the day. That would be it for scoring, however.

FINAL: Arizona sweeps the 49ers with a 45-28 win!

            Key Performances
            QB Jeff Garcia - 44.1, 7/17, 113 yards, TD, 4 INT
            QB Ken Dorsey - 83.1, 13/20, 129 yards
RB Kevan Barlow - 24 att, 115 yards, TD
WR Terrell Owens - 10 rec, 128 yards, TD

            San Francisco 49ers: 5-2

Week 9: Tennessee (5-2) at San Francisco (5-2)
Did Tennessee miss the team plane?

                  1st Quarter
On the opening drive, San Francisco's offense was held to just four yards as Tennessee forced a three and out to get things started. The subsequent punt was returned to just short of midfield. Three plays later, Steve McNair hooked up with rookie WR Paul Kastava who took an 8-yard catch all of 41 yards to give the Titans an early edge. San Francisco came back with a convincing drive as Garcia found Owens from the 20 to tie things up. Just before the quarter ended, a beautiful 11-yard run by Barlow put the Niners on top 14-7.

                  2nd Quarter
The Titans offense was unable to move the ball effectively at all. They had to give the ball back to the rolling 49ers offense. After some nice runs by Barlow and throws by Garcia, an 18-yard pass to TE Eric Johnson made it 21-7. Chandler later added a 51-yard field goal to increase the lead to 24-7. McNair was able to run the two-minute drill to perfection, finding Drew Bennett for a 31-yard score with just over thirty seconds left on the clock to make it 24-14 at the half and give the Titans some hope.

                  3rd Quarter
As is the norm, defense dominated the third quarter. On San Fran's second possession of the quarter, they had a successful drive that wound up with Beasley forcing his way into the endzone from the 1-yard line.

                  4th Quarter
Early on, Garcia hit up WR Brandon Lloyd for a 5-yard score to increase the score to 38-14 as the Niners shut the door on the Titans.

FINAL: San Francisco defeats Tennessee 38-14.

                  Player of the Game
                  QB Jeff Garcia - 132.3, 21/30, 278 yards, 3 TD

                  Key Performances
RB Kevan Barlow - 22 att, 168 yards, TD
WR Terrell Owens - 5 rec, 69 yards, TD
WR Brandon Lloyd - 4 rec, 58 yards, TD

                  San Francisco 49ers: 6-2

                  Next Game: @ Rams (6-2)

                  Straight From the Coach
"Yeah, we won 38-14. So what? The weak before we got our butts kicked in Arizona. Our next three games are in St. Louis, in New York to play the Giants, and in Indianapolis. We don't need to let this win go to our heads when we're in the heat of a battle for the division and have three very tough opponents ahead of us."

WR Brandon Lloyd - 4 rec, 58 yards, TD

                    San Francisco 49ers: 6-2

                    Next Game: @ Rams (6-2)

                    Straight From the Coach
"Yeah, we won 38-14. So what? The weak before we got our butts kicked in Arizona. Our next three games are in St. Louis, in New York to play the Giants, and in Indianapolis. We don't need to let this win go to our heads when we're in the heat of a battle for the division and have three very tough opponents ahead of us."

Week 10: San Francisco (6-2) at St. Louis (6-2)
St. Louis' new head coach, [censored you naughty boy] Jauron, had led his team to an impressive start to the season. Unfortunately, DE Leonard Little was out for the season with an arm fracture, and this put a dent on the Rams pass rush.

                        1st Quarter
On the opening drive, the Rams tried three straight passes, only completing one for four yards. They were forced to punt, and the punt was returned to midfield. Barlow ran for a gain of four yards, and on the next play Garcia hit Owens for a 46-yard bomb to put San Fran on the board 7-0 and quiet the St. Louis crowd. Later, a 32-yard field goal by Chandler extended the lead to 10 points, but the Rams were able to answer back with an 86-yard strike to Tory Holt.

                        2nd Quarter
After forcing another punt, the Niners drove down the field once more and Garcia found a wide open Brandon Lloyd for a 5-yard touchdown. Just before the half, Boulware recovered a Kurt Warner fumble at the 50 and the Niners converted the turnover into 7 more points with a 15-yard pass to Antonio Freeman to make the score 24-7 at the half.

                        3rd Quarter
On the opening drive, San Francisco added to it's lead with the help of Kevan Barlow who broke a tackle on his way to a 6-yard touchdown. On the Rams drive, Wilkins made it 31-10 with a 52-yard kick.

                        4th Quarter
San Francisco was forced to punt, and then they forced the same of St. Louis. However, while Drew Jones was attempting the fair catch, the ball hit his arm and he fumbled. The Rams recovered and high tailed it into the endzone to cut the lead to 31-17. A 39-yard field goal from Chandler sealed the victory, however.

FINAL: San Francisco gets huge 34-17 win over Rams!

                        Player of the Game
                        QB Jeff Garcia - 127.1, 21/32, 301 yards, 3 TD

RB Kevan Barlow - 26 att, 108 yards, TD

WR Brandon Lloyd - 5 rec, 51 yards, TD
RE Andre Carter - 2 sacks, forced fumble
