        Game Notes
The New Mexico State Aggies have a ton of momentum going into this match up. The offense is clicking with over 36 points per a game average and a better rushing offense than last year, with Kenny Turner winning two player of the games. Even with two important defensive players out, the defense is performing well leading the WAC in sacks and rushing defensIt's not looking good for Northern Illinois after their last two games and only scoring five touchdowns and allowing 77 points.

          K. Turner(#3) runs up the middle of the Northern Illinois defense for a seven yard touchdown. Turner had a career game running for 110 yards and two touchdowns and returning two kicks for 115 yards and a touchdown.

          A. Vaalu(#91) sacks J. Lynch for a seven yard loss, Vaalu had a great game getting after the quarterback with three sacks. The New Mexico State defense allowed to many big plays, especially towards the end of the game, and did not get enough turnovers.

          T. Rust(#8) throws the last pass of the game as he gets hit from the side. Rust and the passing game had a terrible day completing 17 of 43 passes for 183 yards and two interceptions.

The Aggies play their toughest game of the year against #23 North Carolina and it doesn't help them to have three of their best defensive players out, George Callender and Gino Martinez are likely out for the rest of the season, but on the plus side the Tar Heels have lost their best receiving threat. Kenny Turner and this offense are going to need to put up big numbers if New Mexico State wants to upset this ACC opponent.

                D. Preston(#9) breaks a would be tackle and takes a short pass 61 yards to the house. Preston had a great game against an ACC defense, catching seven passes for over 100 yards and this touchdown.

                T. Rust(#8) throws a short pass to D. Preston(#9) in the fourth quarter, Preston would catch this pass and then fumble it giving the Tar Heels the ball deep in Aggie territory.

                K. Turner(#3) takes a hand off up the middle and scores six late in the fourth quarter. Turner was pretty much contained, besides this one yard touchdown run.

                        Game Notes
This rivalry is always a pretty close game, but these two teams have nearly identical talent levels on both sides of the ball. New Mexico State is coming of a road lose where the put up a good fight against a much more talented Tar Heels team, but lost another player to the injury bug. The Aggies defense just keeps on getting beat up and they can't afford to lose any more players with back up safety Josh Smith out the pass defense is looking pretty grim. But the good news is they will probably get their best player on defense back, Tommy Stuart, who went down in week one with broken ribs.

The Rio Grande Rivalry a intercollegiate national known rivalry between The University of New Mexico and New Mexico State University, the rivalry began in 1894.

The current format of the rivalry, awarding each school points based on victories over the other in head-to-head competition, was introduced prior to the start of the 2007-08 academic year. Each head-to-head contest between the institutions in any NCAA varsity sport is worth 1.5 points, with the exception of football, which is worth 3 points, and baseball and softball, in which each game is worth .75 points. The point totals are tabulated at the end of the academic year and a traveling trophy is presented to the school with the greater accumulated points total. The trophy is to be officially presented to the winning school at its first home football or men's basketball game against the other school during the following academic year.

                          A. Franklin(#4) breaks a tackle, after catching a short slant pass, and takes it the distance for an 81 yard touchdown. The Aggies passing attack played pretty decent, but T. Rust completed less than half of his attempts.

                          J. Bell(#44) recovers a fumble and races 22 yards the other way. The New Mexico State defense did not play too well, allowing a lot of big plays and 24 points in the first half.

                          K. Turner(#3) takes a hand off on fourth and one late in the fourth. Turner was non existent for the second week in a row, with only 60 rushing yards.
