    SO CLOSE

Idaho had a real chance to pull off two big upsets in a row. Washington State kicked a 30 yard field goal to tie the game at 31-31 with just under five minutes left to play. Chad Chalich ran for 18 yards on first down. After a short Manley run and a pair of incompletions Idaho had to punt.

Washington State took the lead on a 25 yard Halliday to Brooks screen pass and run. Cougars on top 38-31 with 2:35 to play.

Chalich hit Epps for 16. A few plays later he ran for 14 and the Vandals were in striking distance. Two plays later the game was all but over. Washington State linebacker Logan Mayes jumped in front of a slant and picked off Chalich’s pass with 1:48 left in the game. Washington State added a late score to make the final 45-31.

Logan Mayes seals the win with a late pick

“It’s a tough way to end a game but as the quarterback I know I have to have a short memory. Gotta forget it and move on to next week.” Chalich said after the game. Taylor Davis replaced Chalich for a couple plays just before the final gun but the team wouldn’t say why. Chalich was seen with his pads off near the training staff as the game came to a close.

Idaho is now 2-2 as is Washington State.

ARMOND HAWKINS RECOVERS AN ONSIDE KICK FOR IDAHO, DEZMON EPPS CATCHES THE GO-AHEAD TD WITH 32 SECONDS LEFT

SNATCHING DEFEAT FROM THE HANDS OF VICTORY

The most exciting play in football. The onside kick. There was 46 seconds left to play and the Vandals trailed Temple by a score of 38-35. Rehkow hit it perfectly and after a couple bounces backup defensive back Armond Hawkins came up with the ball. With Dezmon Epps catching his breath on the sideline coach Wade Wilkerson sent in starting safety Bradley Njoku. Chalich connected with Njoku on a post good for 45 yards down to the Temple nine yard line. After an incompletion Chalich hit Epps for the go-ahead score with the clock reading :36 seconds. Rehkow nailed the point after and Idaho was on top 42-38 with :33 left to play.

“I’m not gonna lie, I thought we scored too fast. The defense wasn’t stopping them the whole second half. I just felt like we should have used more time.” Vandals’ quarterback Chad Chalich would say after the game.

Temple got the ball back with 33 seconds to play and 75 yards to go. Newsome to Alderman for three yards. Incompletion. Newsom sacked for a loss of eight. Fourth and 15, one stop ends it. Newsom to Fitzpatrick down the sideline for 43 yards to the 36. Coach Wilkerson spikes his clipboard. Newsome to Parthemore for six yards. Nine seconds to play. Newsome to Anderson for six more yards. Five seconds left, clock stopped. Last play. One stop ends it. The entire stadium, fans, coaches and players, are holding their breath.

“One more stop! Just one more stop!” Is heard coming from the Idaho sideline. Newsome takes the snap and holds the ball. Not one but two Temple receivers are completely wide open on the left side of the endzone. Newsom sends the pass. No Vandal is within striking distance. Maybe they’ll drop it.

Touchdown Temple as time expires. Alderman hauls in the uncontested pass. Coach Wilkerson spikes his headset and tips over a cooler full of Gatorade. Idaho had every chance in the world and they blew it.

Two wide open Temple receivers on the last play of the game

Chalich did all he could, completing 20 of 43 for 310 yards and two scores while adding 89 yards and a score on the ground. Idaho receivers dropped nine passes.

“It’s frustrating.” Chalich said yesterday on a local radio show. “You wonder about your teammates effort. You wonder about the play calling. It’s just tough.”

Idaho is now 2-3 on the season and they will head out west to face a tough Fresno State team next week.

What a heartbreaker against Temple. We have all been there though, those hurt. Hang in there bud.

Overall though for the team being what it is, you are doing a great job being competitive in most games. Heck that's more than I can say some weeks. Good luck against Fresno!

Overall though for the team being what it is, you are doing a great job being competitive in most games. Heck that's more than I can say some weeks. Good luck against Fresno!
I think Carr is still out for Fresno State so that should be good for us.

It sure sounds that way. Thanks, Fresno will be tough but I think Carr is still out at least.

OLE MISS QB BO WALLACE DELIVERS ONE OF HIS TWO TOUCHDOWN PASSES

#1 ALABAMA UPSET BY UNRANKED OLE MISS
                            Tuscaloosa, Alabama -
Ole Miss had been on the verge of cracking the top 25 early in the season but a loss at Texas last week had them on the outside looking in. With a road trip to Tuscaloosa on tap a two game losing streak seemed inevitable.

That’s why they play the games.

Ole Miss drew first blood via a 29 yard field goal early in the first quarter. Alabama answered with a two yard AJ McCarron to Amari Cooper TD pass and a 31 yard field goal late in the quarter.

The Rebels tied things up in the second when Bo Wallace connected with Jaylen Walton on a 36 yard touchdown. Walton beat Alabama safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix on the score.

With the game tied at the half most expected Alabama to flip a switch and pull away in the second half.

Ole Miss hit a pair of field goals in the third and shut out Alabama for the quarter.

Bama made it 16-13 with 10 minutes to play on a 35 yard field goal.

After an Ole Miss punt McCarron had Alabama driving.

The game was all but over when Charles Sawyer, a back up defensive back, jumped a slant intended for Kenny Bell and returned the pick 51 yards to the Alabama 23 yard line.

Two plays later Bo Wallace hooked up with Jay Scott on a screen and he took it 17 yards for a score. Alabama put together a decent drive late but were stopped on fourth down. Ole Miss got the win in Tuscaloosa by a final score of 23-13.

Expect to see Alabama tumble out of the top five while Ole Miss should sneak into the polls somewhere in the 20s.

                              FRESNO STATE RECEIVER DAVANTE ADAMS

Fresno State’s defensive secondary could be a big problem for Idaho’s receivers. Led by cornerback LJ Jones and safety Derron Smith the Bulldogs have one of the best backfields the Vandals have faced. Middle linebackers Patrick Su’a and Jeremiah Toma are also strong players. Backup quarterback Marcus McDade will have plenty of options with Isaiah Burse, Davante Adams and Josh Harper making up one of the deepest receiving corps Idaho will face.
